Box 2700, Topeka, KS 66601 Sports Director: Lance Veeser 9 NCAA Tournament Appearances, 3 regional titles 3 Washburn University was established in February 1865 as Lincoln College by a charter issued by the State of Kansas and the General Association of Congregational Ministers and Churches of Kansas. A two-story brick building on the northeast corner of 10th and Jackson Streets was soon erected and the fi rst classes began in January 1866. In 1868, the school was renamed Washburn College, in recognition of a $25,000 donation by Ichabod Washburn, a church deacon and resident of Worcester, Mass. Th e university was granted a permanent location in 1865 when Topekan Col. John Ritchie donated a 160-acre site, which at the time was a considerable distance southwest of the city. Construction on the fi rst building began in 1872, with occupancy taking place in 1874. For the next two decades, col- lege President Peter MacVicar conducted an aggressive development campaign. His eff orts resulted in the establishment of numerous Victorian limestone structures which characterized the campus for the next 90 years. Expansion of the school was constant. Th e School of Law was organized in 1903, as was a School of Fine Arts and a medical school, which educated physicians until 1913. During the next three decades structures such as the Mulvane Art Museum, Benton Hall and Whiting Field House were added to the campus. In June 1966, a tornado struck Topeka and several historic buildings on campus were demolished. Th e Washburn community rallied and fi nancial support from friends and alumni made possible the rebuilding of many school facilities during the coming years.

Karcher* This Essay addresses the difficulty of proving the financial harm that results when a head coach departs a college or university during the contract term and the institution thereby abruptly loses a valuable asset-a successful and stable athletic program. Due to the unique and specialized nature of head coaches' services and the industry in which they work, ordinary measures for assessing damages based on substitute perjbrmance and transaction costs are insufficient. This Essay offers a theory of measuring a university's damages within the construct of a lost-income-producing-asset valuation, using a methodology based on liquidateddamages amounts in comparable coaches' contracts.

    Tim Jankovich – SMU Coaching U Live April 2017 (Dallas, Texas) -When I was young I thought it was all about X’s & O’s and would laugh when I heard older coaches talk about culture. -Will study teams in the offseason to try and get ideas. Will watch clinic videos to try to spark ideas. -Game is so infinite. It’s one of the most exciting things about basketball to me. -We are all products of what we’ve been able to experience. I’ve had the fortune to work for a collection of 9 fantastic coaches. It’s not about copying a coach. It’s thinking about what makes him great. Lon Kruger (current Oklahoma head coach; Jankovich worked for him at UT-Pan American): • Not afraid to be simple offensively. Sometimes as coaches we feel like we have to manufacture every basket. • Coach was so competitive and so smart • My biggest takeaway was actually that there was more than one way to skin a cat. I had played for an old school guy in Jack Hartman and I thought that was the way to do it. Jack Hartman (former Kansas State head coach where Jankovich played and worked for him): • Base of knowledge Bob Weltich (former Texas head coach where Jankovich worked for him) • “Motion Offense” acumen (Weltich coached under Bob Knight at Army). Motion is truly glorious – five guys running around trying not get in the other guys’ way while still being purposeful. Boyd Grant (former Colorado State head coach where Jankovich worked for him) • Coach Grant won with less unlike anyone I’ve ever seen.
