Disney Junior's "The Rocketeer" Disney Junior's "The Rocketeer" follows Kit, a young girl who receives a surprise package on her birthday revealing she's next in line to become the Rocketeer, a legendary superhero who has the ability to fly with the help of a rocket-pack. Armed with her cool new gear and secret identity, Kit is ready to take flight and save the day with her gadget-minded best friend, Tesh, and Butch the bulldog by her side. Inspired by Dave Stevens' popular comic book series and the subsequent 1991 Walt Disney Pictures feature film, the series is designed for kids 2-7 and their families. Full of comedy, action and heart, the series showcases classic superhero wish- fulfillment with real-kid relatability. Each episode follows Kit as she embarks on a high- flying adventure to help save her small town of Hughesville and its residents from trouble—usually brought on by the many comedic villains that will be featured throughout the series. Whether it be foiling a plot by the costumed bandit Sylvester Slapdash to rob the town's café or going up against the thieving sister team of Laura and Harley, Kit utilizes her new flying abilities, problem-solving skills and creativity to restore order and leave the villains, which also include mischievous magician The Great Orsino, his sidekick Deany, and the Cast-Iron Chef, to try another day. As with most superheroes, Kit has a team to help her pull off her heroic adventures and keep her identity hidden from the masses. Her best friend, Tesh, serves as ground control when Kit takes to the skies and is also the inventor of the high-tech gadgets and upgrades for her rocket-pack. Also along for the ride are Kit's loyal dog, Butch, and grandfather, Ambrose Secord, who works at the Hughesville Airport. When Kit receives the rocket-pack for her birthday, he is the one who recognizes the device for what it is, helps Kit train and serves as her mechanic. He is the only adult character who knows about Kit's identity as the new Rocketeer. Also featured in the series are Kit's mom and dad, Sareena and Dave Secord. Dave is a pilot with a passion for anything that has to do with aviation, a trait he has passed down to his daughter. Sareena runs the local Bulldog Café. She is an excellent cook and, although she does not understand Kit's love of flying, she supports her daughter and wants her to follow her dream of becoming a pilot. The series' curriculum is based around themes of empowerment, recognizing and knowing right from wrong and critical thinking/problem solving, all of which are modeled by Kit, who has a strong sense of self and an inherent desire to do the right thing and protect the community. Music also plays a big role in the series with each episode containing an original song. "The Rocketeer" voice cast includes Billy Campbell ("The Rocketeer") as Dave Secord, Kathy Najimy ("Hocus Pocus") as Sareena Secord, Kitana Turnbull ("A Series of Unfortunate Events") as Kit Secord, Callan Farris (Disney Channel's "Gabby Duran & The Unsittables") as Tesh, Frank Welker ("Scooby-Doo") as Grandpa Ambrose, Navia Robinson (Disney Channel's "Raven's Home") as Valerie Valkyrie, Kari Wahlgren (Disney's "DuckTales") as Harley, Maria Bamford ("Arrested Development") as Laura, Maurice LaMarche ("Pinky and the Brain") as Sylvester Slapdash, Charlie Adler ("Tiny Toon Adventures") as The Great Orsino, Parvesh Cheena ("Crazy Ex-Girlfriend") as Deany and Ted Allen ("Chopped") as Cast-Iron Chef. Emmy® Award-nominated Nicole Dubuc ("Transformers: Rescue Bots") developed the series and also serves as executive producer. Michael Kenny (Disney's "Miles From Tomorrowland") is supervising director. Emmy Award-nominated Beau Black (Disney's "The Lion Guard") is songwriter and Annie Award-nominated Dominic Lewis (Disney's "DuckTales") is composer. The series is produced by Wild Canary in association with Disney Junior. It carries a TV-Y parental guideline. -- Disney Junior -- 9/19 .

There is a subtle difference between “to charm” and “to seduce.” The need for fame, glory, power, money, or other objects of affection drives antagonists so blindly that they’ve no hope of regaining a consciousness about their actions. If and when they do become aware, they infrequently feel remorse.

  • Peter Cullen and Frank Welker Are More Than Meets the Eye
Peter Cullen and Frank Welker Are More Than Meets the Eye Few cartoons and actions figures are as iconic, popular and recognizable as Transformers. Whether you grew up with the ’80s TV series, the original 1988 film or even the current blockbuster franchise, you most likely know the difference between an Autobot and a Decepticon. The original voices behind the eternal foes Optimus Prime and Megatron, Peter Cullen and Frank Welker, each have been doing voice work for over 50 years, and I was excited to talk with them in advance of their appearance at RI Comic Con. Rob Duguay (Motif): When you were approached to do the voices for the Transformers cartoon in the ’80s, what was your reaction? Peter Cullen: I remember being very curious about it. It was so new, so different from anything I had ever done or seen before. That is because there were no cute funny characters of all sorts of voice ranges, but simply an assortment of metal robots that fought for good or evil. It was more real life than cartoons. I was asked to read a few characters including Prime, and that opportunity proved to be a once in a lifetime. The words were perfect, some advice from my brother Larry — who is also a personal hero of mine — and the rest is history. Frank Welker: I was not familiar with the franchise at all, but loved the characters and the art. They were different than anything I was working on at the time. It was fun to play so many characters and of course I had the opportunity to be the big bad boy and I loved doing him and still do.

  • Idle Hour: Noho's Beloved Barrel Reborn
Idle Hour: NoHo's Beloved Barrel Reborn By Alysia Gray Painter http://www.nbclosangeles.com/entertainment/the-scene/Idle-Hour-NoHos-Beloved- Barrel-Reborn-291527871.html NBC Los Angeles Says: If Los Angeles building styles could be viewed as members of a large and loopy family, roadside vernacular architecture, or programmatic architecture, if you prefer, would absolutely be the nutty cousin who balances spoons on his nose and sings songs backwards, all to garner attention and bring delight. It's the Cabazon dinosaurs and it's the bulldog-shaped diner seen in "The Rocketeer" and it's every outlandish vintage design conceived to catch the eyes, and cash, of early motorists. And it's the barrel-shaped structure near the appropriately attention- garnering North Hollywood intersection of Lankershim Boulevard, Vineland Avenue, and Camarillo Street. Yep, we speak of what was formerly La Caña Restaurant, or what's often called The Barrel, a long-closed gem which is getting another longed-for shot as an open-and-in- business business. But here's the twist: Idle Hour, the fresh handle for the bar, is actually its long-gone moniker. Surely you remember back in the 1940s when it was called The Idle Hour Cafe & Tap Room, yes? La Caña came later, and then, after it was long closed, a designation to save the not-looking-too-great spot: Los Angeles Historical-Cultural Monument #977. That's a fair estimation, yes? If you strolled by the structure in recent years, you likely thought, or voiced, that it had "seen better days" (or some other "someone should save this place" lamentation).
