They took a 4-3 lead in the first two 11/12/12 - MWSU, Heather Howard, F minutes, but trailed the rest of the half, going into the break behind 28-22. 11/19/12 - UCM, BreAnna Lewis, G Sharniece Lewis nailed a 3-pointer at the 17:18 mark in the second half to begin the Griffons’ comeback after the score was 30-27. JaQuitta Dever put in a layup followed by Brittany Griswold’s layup to give Missouri Western its first lead since early in the first half.

The Griffons snatched a 10-point lead with 4:57 to play off of a layup by Alicia Bell to take a 53-43 lead, but Illinois- Springfield came back to make things interesting.

The Griffons had a 57-51 lead when Alex Saxen grabbed her second steal of the game, but Illinois Springfield’s Carly Goede brought the team back with a 3-pointer to mark the score 57-54 with 42 seconds to play.

MWSU played solid defense in the waning seconds, and the Prairie Stars couldn’t shoot the ball in the final 10 seconds as MWSU won the game 57-54.

Heather Howard had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Lanicia Lawrence had a solid performance, scoring eight points with five rebounds and four assists.

QUINCY, Ill. – The Truman Women’s Basketball team made it two straight to start the season and two straight over the Quincy (Ill.) Alicia Bell (4) University Lady Hawks with a 62-52 win on Tuesday night. Senior Becka McHenry led the Bulldogs with 17 points.

The win allowed Lincoln to improve to 2-1 on the season and win the Quincy Subway Tip-Off Classic, as LU was the only one of the four teams present to go 2-0 at the tournament. LAST TIME AGAINST LU: COMEBACK EFFORT COMES UP SHORT FOR GRIFFON WOMEN ON THE ROAD; FALL 68-56 AGAINST BLUE TIGERS Koch is 48 points away from being the Griffons all-time leading scorer 2/15/2012 7:42:00 PM JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - For the 33 straight game senior guard Jessica Koch scored in double figures for the Griffons finishing with 16 points in the 68-56 road loss against the Lincoln Blue Tigers. Western got outscored 36-30 in the paint and outrebounded 18 to six on the offensive end falling to 6-17 overall and 4-13 in MIAA play. Western also sits at 0-9 on the road in MIAA play.

The Blue Tigers closed the first half on an 18-6 run claiming a 39-27 halftime lead. The MIAA’s leading scoring Koch played just 10 minutes in the half as she picked up two early fouls. She finished with five points in the frame. Fortunately, Ashleigh Curry came of the bench and connected on three long range shots keeping Western close. Curry and Alicia Bell combined for five three’s with Curry leading Western with nine points.

Western turned the ball over 13 times which turned into 11 Lincoln points. Lincoln had eight offensive rebounds leading to 11 points as Arriana Walker and Vivian Essuon led the way for Lincoln with 12 points apiece.

Lincoln shot 46.7-percent (14-30) from the field while the Griffons shot just 37.5-percent (9-24) in the half. The Blue Tigers made 7-of-8 free throws while the Griffons made 4-of-5.

The Blue Tigers came out in the second half on fire building its 12 points halftime lead to 18 at 51-33 after a Bre Dillard jumper with 14:39 to play. With the game looking out of hand the Griffons went on a 15-4 run in the next seven minutes cutting the Blue Tiger lead to seven at 55-48 after a lay-up by Charlonda Bozeman with 6:18 to play.

Unfortunately the Griffons struggled the rest of the game offensively getting outscored by five down the stretch falling 68-56. The Blue Tigers improve to 14-9 overall and 8-9 in MIAA action.

Western had three other players in double figures with Curry and Abby Stone finishing with 11 points apiece while Bell pitched in 10. Bell also led the squad with eight rebounds. Western struggled from the free throw line making just 7 of 14 attempts.

The Blue Tigers were led by Essuon and Walker as they both finished with double-doubles. Essuon had 20 points and 10 rebounds while Walker had 12 points and 10 assists.

Donica Cosby became SAC newcomer of the year as OCU went 32-4. In 2008-09, OCU advanced to the national semifinals. Hardin made second-team all-American and was SAC newcomer of the year. The Stars were 31-6. In 2007-08, the Stars earned a No. 1 seed in the NAIA Tournament and captured the conference regular-season and tournament crowns. OCU’s Viola Beybeyah was SAC Player of the Year and first-team All-American. OCU went 28-5 In 2006-07, Edmisson led the Stars to the second round of the NAIA Tournament and to the title game of the conference tournament. OCU had six all-conference selections. In his first season with OCU, Edmisson led the Stars to a national quarterfi­nals finish, their seventh consecutive conference regular-season championship and the conference tournament title. Before OCU, Edmisson spent three years as an assistant at Oklahoma State. He helped bring in a top-20 recruiting class to OSU which included Big 12 Newcomer of the Year Nina Stone. Edmisson was coach at Hutchinson Community College in Hutchinson, Kan. In nine years, Edmisson went 192-89, finish­ing as Jayhawk West Conference runner-up in 1996 and 1998. Edmisson produced nine All-Americans, 10 All-Region picks, 25 All-Conference selections and two conference Freshmen of the Year. Edmisson coached Hutchinson’s all-time leading scorer, Cian Carvalho. Under his direction, the Blue Dragons finished in the top four in the conference each season and were ranked among the NJCAA top 25 six times. Edmisson’s squads reached the Region VI playoffs seven times. Statistically, Edmisson’s teams ranked in the top 10 in defense six times. He has coached on two international touring teams. This summer he was assistant coach for the U.S. Jones Cup team. In 1990, he served as an assistant for the NJCAA-USA All-Star Team that won the gold medal during its tour of Taiwan. As a high school head coach, Edmisson went 110-30 in six seasons at Ellinwood, Kan., and Fairfield, Kan. Edmisson directed Ellinwood (Kan.) High School from 1989-92, finishing as 1992 sub-state runner-up and winning the conference championship­ in 1991-92. At Fairfield (Kan.) High School, Edmisson guided the program to its first conference championship. As good as Edmisson’s teams have been on the floor, they’ve been equally as good in the classroom. At Hutchinson Com- munity College all nine of his teams produced a team GPA of 3.00 or higher which included 14 of his players being named Academic All-America. At OCU, he graduated 90% of his players who exhausted their eligibility and all seven of his teams have achieved a team GPA of 3.00 or higher including four Academic All-America selections. Edmisson started his coaching career at Doane College (Neb.), serving as an assistant in 1986-87. Edmisson played at Pratt Community College (Kan.) and was team captain each season. Edmisson was the squad’s Most Inspi- rational Player. Edmisson’s alma mater is Bethany (Kan.). He and his wife, Gina, have two children, Corbin and Cierra.
