Programme for the Seychelles 2013 PROGRAMME FOR THE SEYCHELLES 2013 1. THE CIRCUS OVERTURE….with a grand display of lighting effects to tell the audience the great spectacle has begun! (The Magic Circus of Samoa has beautiful sound and the newest LED lighting systems with lasers, fog and dramatic special effects by professional DJ Mr. Tusitala.) 2. TIGHT WIRE ARTISTS…..Mosese & Ms. Tara perform amazing feats of balance and equilibrium on the tight wire. 3. HERE COME THE CLOWNS!....The incredibly famous TOETU the clown standing less than a metre in height and his huge funny partner COCONUT will leave the audience falling off their seats with un-containable laughter….together they show their boxing skills in the circus ring! 4. CORDE LISSE……Direct from the major circus of India hails “Ms. Aerialeta Paudel” with simply outstanding aerial artistry high in the circus skies. Beauty and grace in a daring performance. 5. PROFESSOR URIMA AND HIS ACROBATIC SCHOOL… The most hilarious act ever invented in the circus world….where a construction worker, a school boy, a nurse, a blind man and a sweet young lady all come together on the bounding trampoline….this is slapstick comedy at its best. 6. FOOT JUGGLING….Ms. Rita from Nepal presents the very difficult art of foot juggling. After a fast and entertaining routine with different shaped apparatus, her finale with a tall pole and a ball always receives one of the biggest rounds of applause in the show! 7. KNIFE THOWING……a great circus star with many years of practice enabling to perform this act of extreme courage……this act will keep the audience in total silence and on the edge of their seats in total fear ….this act is true circus! 8. THE CIRCUS PHOTOGRAPHER…..Two members of the audience are selected in this one of a kind comedy……with a surprise ending that will leave the audience in pain from laughing so hard! 9. THE SAMOAN SLAP DANCE…..4 of our Samoan boys present an act never seen before on any circus in the world…..performed with the island rhythms of Samoa with a fantastic manner on a table. The speed and perfect coordination is mind-boggling and great fun for all. 10. THE RUBBER MAN….Abram is “Mr. Sensational” without doubt…..this young man from Africa can do the impossible with his body! This award winning contortionist was the feature star of the great Rambo Circus in India. We are proud to have his amazing act with us for the first time for our tour of the Indian Ocean. 11. ELVIS IS ALIVE! …This miniature version of Elvis will touch everyone’s heart and together with the lovely aerial star “Ms. Amiana” as she performs high above the stage hanging only by her hair. An act of skill and beautiful music combined will be a hit for sure! 12. JUGGLING TROUPE…6 incredible jugglers all at one time! This act of great skill and precision is a highlight of our Circus…..more than 20 passing clubs in the air at once….this act feature the beautiful Ms. Talave, star juggler of the show….she is the only female artist juggling 7 rings at one time! 13. THE HUMAN FOUNTAIN…A once-in-a-lifetime circus phenomena! The Great Fontania will demonstrate the highest state of yoga in a spectacle of drinking a huge amount of water and then……the rest we must leave to your imagination and awe! This grand act brings closure to the first half of the show. INTERMISSION 14. STARS ON THE AERIAL SILKS……Direct from India and stars of the great Gemini Circus and award winners of “India’s Got Talent”…..The Mukesh Duo perform a daring and beautiful aerial act high in the air. Grace combined with astonishing strength makes this very difficult and dangerous act look easy….they are truly great circus stars… 15. FRANCIS EQUILIBRIST….A magnificent display of strength and courage as he presents handstands atop many chairs stacked precariously one on top the other to an incredibly dangerous height! This act will make you hold on to your seats… 16. THE CANDLE CONTORTIONIST…..Princess Renu from the Great Rambo Circus of India…..performs a mystifying act with over 60 candles! Her art is unbelievable, how can she bend her body with all these candles at once will leave you in awe…..she has been with the Magic Circus for two tours! 17. THE GRAND MAGIC OF TUPA’I BRUNO….The Circus Master comes on stage to present feats of magic beyond belief! Watch as things simply disappear right before your eyes….watch out as many members of the audience are invited on stage to assist in the act. With over 3 decades of experience…that will leave all audiences spellbound! 18. UNICYCLE STARS…..3 world-class unicyclists from Samoa present a great variety of unicycles from the seldom seen zig-zag unicycle to the tallest unicycle in the circus world at over 4m in height! Poasa, Junior and Ms. Rosita demonstrate fantastic skills on the one-wheel contraptions! 19. HULA HOOPS….The beautiful Miss Tanya from Bangalore, India makes this difficult art look so easy, performing with over 20 Hula Hoops at once! 20. POLYNESIAN DANCING….All the Samoa circus stars don their traditional Samoa apparel in a beautiful “SIVA-SAMOA” which gives this part of the world a special glimpse of our traditional dance of Samoa. 21. VOLCANIKA….She is our special Circus star….winner of the 2012 Samoan Fire Dance competition, as the only girl performing this super-fantastic fire-knife dance. Volcanika makes it look easy as she twirls real knifes of fire in a spectacular manner…..our female star of the Magic Circus. 22. THE GLOBE OF DEATH….The death-defying and courage performance of two superstars of the circus…..Sosi from Brazil and Mukesh from India perform together at heart-pounding speeds inside the 3.5m steel Globe of Death….this act is 100% skill and tremendous courage. 23. GRAND FINALE….Tupa’i Bruno welcomes all the artists on stage to say farewell and to give their special thanks to the audience for all their applause during the over 2-1/2 hours of great family entertainment. .

Gosselin1 Abstract The purpose of this study was to measure the dynamic tension force between the apparatus and the hanging equipment of five aerial circus apparatus and to recommend minimal loading requirements in rigging and design. Forces generated by different acrobatic movements were measured and synchronized with video recordings. Sixteen students of the National Circus School of Montreal´ (Canada) participated in the study. Maximal forces were analysed and characterized with respect to the discipline, the type of movement and the schooling level of the student. The maximal force measured was 5.3 kN performed in the discipline of aerial straps, equivalent to 7.9 times the bodyweight of the performer. A minimal breaking strength of 22 kN for the hanging point and all the equipment holding the rig is recommended. A minimal breaking strength of 22 kN for straps, 17 kN for rope, and 12 kN for silk, aerial hoop and dance trapeze is recommended. Corn Palace Events Update – Basketball tournaments have been completed with the Corn Palace Classic on December 30th, and the Sacred Hoops Classic on January 2nd. Approximately 1000 people attend each of these tournaments with not more than 650 in attendance at any one time which is well below 50% occupancy of 1326 people. Doug said the Houston TN, team with Mike Miller as coach will be playing Lower Brule on January 8th and expected 600+ to attend.

Flip Arts Springing to New Heights By Wendy Keller Darlene Traviss was in a hurry to get to her office at Flip Factory, in the northeastern part of Calgary. Yesterday’s skype video call with Kelly Schreiber, CEO of L’ExpArts, a Montreal-based marketing firm, with experience in promotion for performance arts, had made her feel cautiously optimistic, but optimistic, nonetheless. The commute to the office typically took 30 minutes, but this morning it was unusually long. Infrastructure improvement projects around the city were causing back-ups.
