Learning Target: Students will create artwork that communicates ideas about indoors. Van Gogh was a Post-Impressionist artist who painted sunflower still lifes during the mid-late 1800’s. Let’s Get Started: What do you see in this still life? Practice #1: Which of these are a still life?

Which one shows objects that are inside and not a person or place? Practice #2: Which of these are a still life?

You need a piece of paper, something to write with and a small object from your house. Make sure you ask an adult if you can use it first! Practice on your own: creating shadow still lifes

Step 2: Ask an adult if you can go outside. Find a sunny spot where there’s a flat area to draw. Place your object on the paper and trace it. Practice on your own: creating shadow still lifes

Step 4: Color your still life. Be sure to color like an artist: color in all the white space and color in the same direction.
