Awards & Achievements • Celebrations • Think it Over Projects – Domestic • Social Development • Laughing Corner Projects - Overseas • Education • Farewell Training • Sports Volume No.21, No.3 October – December, 2015 Page 1 Awards The Company received the “Star Performer – Large Enterprise (Ferro Alloys) ” award for outstanding contribution to Engineering Exports for the year 2013-14, from EEPCINDIA, Chennai. The Award, in the form of a Shield and a Certificate, was received at the Regional Export Award presentation ceremony held in Bangalore on 25th December. The award was given away by Shri Vajubhai Vala, Hon’ble Governor of Mr. CV Durga Prasad, Director (Business Karnataka. The unit received this award for Development) receiving the award from the 12th time. the Hon’ble Governor of Karnataka Project Finance International (PFI) of Thomson-Reuters, the leading source of global Project Finance Intelligence, has accorded “Power Deal of the Year 2015“ Award in Middle East and Africa to the project finance transaction of Maamba Collieries Limited (MCL). MCL, a step- down subsidiary of Nava Bharat Ventures Limited, is implementing an Integrated Coal & 300 MW Power Project in Zambia at an estimated outlay of US $ 843 Million. PFI Awards are the most prestigious annual awards, spread over a wide spectrum of industries and across continents. MCL’s Award forms part of Roll of Honour announced by PFI. The Management congratulates all the officials who contributed to this project finance transaction. Projects – Domestic The existing turbine rotor of 50 MW Power Plant (Unit I) at Paloncha, was replaced with a rotor of latest design to reduce specific steam consumption and thereby improving turbine heat rate and efficiency. This has resulted in fuel (coal) savings to the tune of 100 MT/day and reduction in auxiliary power consumption by 4,300 kWh/day. A HT Variable Frequency Drive was fixed to the Boiler Feed Pump of 32 MW Power Plant 50 MW Power Plant at Paloncha (Unit III) resulting in energy savings of 2,600 kWh/day. Page 2 Projects – Overseas The construction works of 300 MW Power Project at Maamba, Zambia are in advanced stage of completion. During the quarter the following milestones were achieved: 1. The 650 kW, High Lift Pump at Kariba Lake, for pumping raw water from the lake to Raw Water Reservoir, was commissioned on 20th November in the presence of ZESCO Engineers. Commissioning of 650 kW High Lift 2. The Generator Rotors of Unit-1 and Unit-2 Pump at Kariba Lake were inserted into Generator Stators on 21 st November and 31st December respectively. Training A training programme on “Mill Hydraulic System” was conducted by Mr. PSV Prasad, Dy. Manager (Mechanical) of Engineering Department, for the staff of Mechanical Department at the Sugar Division, in October. A training programme on “Operation of Air Compressors” was conducted by Mr. U. Generator Rotor of Unit-1 being Srinivasa Rao, Asst. Manager (Mechanical) of Engineering Department, for the staff of inserted into Generator Stator Mechanical Department at the Sugar Division, in November. Celebrations The “National Pollution Prevention Day” was observed, at Odisha Works, on 2nd December. This enhanced the awareness among staff on prevention of Water, Air and Soil Pollution. The Environment Management Cell (EMC) of the Unit took up plantation work within the plant premises and near the Pump House at Plantation of trees on the occasion of Brahmani river. National Pollution Prevention Day Page 3 Celebrations…. The “Chemical Disaster Prevention Day” was observed, at Odisha Works, on 4th December. Display of banners, safety pledge, training programme on safe handling of chemicals, the hazards and control measures as well as mock drill on emergency preparedness on this occasion helped to improve awareness on how to prevent accidents/ disasters. Training programme on safe handling of chemicals The “Energy Conservation Day” was observed, at Odisha Works, from 14th to 17th December. Awareness programmes were conducted for employees and contract workers. Drawing and quiz competitions on energy conservation were conducted for children of employees and students of Brahmani Public School and prizes were given away to the winners. As part of the “15th Sugar Division Day” celebrations on 1st October, “Rythu Sabha” was organized at the Integrated Farmers’ Service Centre (IFSC), Samalkot to bring Student of Brahmani Public School together the High Cane Yield Achievers and receiving the prize Low Cane Yield Achievers from the Sugar Cane farming community near the factory. On this occasion, Dr. M. Bharat Lakshmi, Principal Scientist (Agronomy), Regional Agricultural Station, Anakapalli, Mr. Prabhakar Gandhi, Professor, Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, Mr.N. Prabhakar, Vice President, Sugar Division, Dr. Pamidi Venkateswarulu, Technical Advisor, Sugar Division interacted with both the groups. The interaction helped the Low Cane Yield Achievers in understanding the contemporary Mr. N. Prabhakar, Vice President, Sugar practices and technologies adopted for Division addressing the farmers improving cane yield. Page 4 Celebrations…. The “Children’s Day” was celebrated by the students of Nava Bharat Public Schools on 14th November. Fancy Dress Parade for young kids of Pre-Primary Classes organized as part of the celebrations was the special attraction. Social Development The Paloncha Unit donated 565 dual desks to 34 Government Schools in 6 Revenue Fancy Dress Parade by pre-primary Mandals in December. Mr. N. Rajesh, student District Educational Officer, Khammam, handed over, through formal letters, the dual desks to the Headmasters of the Schools. The Tailoring Centre at Paloncha formed by women who underwent training in Tailoring and Embroidery at Nava Bharat Vocational Institute, Paloncha procured, with the help of the Company, work orders for stitching 6,500 uniforms for Contract employees of the Company and students of Government schools. Currently 32 women are self- employed under this CSR initiative of the Company. Dual Desks distributed to Govt. Schools The Odisha Unit has taken up plantation of medicinal plants over an area of one hectare at Sogar Village in Dhenkanal District. Mr.Prafulla Mallick, Hon’ble Minister of Steel & Mines, Government of Stitching of Uniforms at the Tailoring Odisha, inaugurated the plantation activity in October. Centre Page 5 Social Development…. The 2nd Batch of Fitters and Electricians who successfully completed their training at Nava Bharat Vocational Institute, Samalkot, were awarded certificates in October. Mr. N. Prabhakar, Vice President, Sugar Division, Samalkot gave away the certificates. Certificates being awarded to 2nd batch Education of Fitters and Electricians The students of Nava Bharat Public School, bagged 18 prizes in various categories of events at the Balotsav organized by Kothagudem Club, 7 prizes at the Bhadradri Balotsav and 8 prizes at Telangana Balotsav held in November. Kumari Siri Mounika Kumari R. Siri Mounika, D/o Mr. R. Krishna Prasad, Dy. Manager (Mechanical), who received Sugar Division, received “Prathibha the “Prathibha Award” from Govt. of Andhra Pradesh for Award” her meritorious performance in Intermediate Examinations (MPC group) 2015 at the District level. The Award was given away by District Education Officer, East Godavari District on behalf of Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, at Tirupathi, in November. She was one of the 39 students selected for this Award from all the colleges in East Godavari District. Sports Nava Bharat Schools at Paloncha th celebrated the Annual Sports Day on 12 December. Mr. J. Pavithran Kumar, Director (Finance), SCCL, graced the Mr. J. Pavithran Kumar, Director function as Chief Guest and Smt. G. (Finance), SCCL handing over the Sharada, International Power Lifter was sports torch to the School Captain the Guest of Honor. Page 6 Sports…. Kumari Kumari K. Anusha, a student of Grade VII in Nava Bharat Public School, won the Bronze K. Anusha, medal in 800 mtrs race in the Girls Under-14 Grade VII years category at the CBSE Cluster VII Athletic Student of Meet (comprising students from Andhra NBPS Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka) held in Davangere, Karnataka in October. The management congratulates Kumari Anusha on her achievement. Adieu Mr. N. P. Patro relinquished his position as Vice President (Odisha Works) in September, 2015 for personal reasons. He served the Company for a period of 4 years. The Management wishes him well in his future endeavours ! Welcome Mr. Yashobanta Pattanaik joined the company as Vice President (Odisha Works) in October, 2015. He heads the Ferro Alloy Plant and Power Plants in Odisha. A Graduate in Mechanical Engineering and a Master of Business Administration, he brings with him rich industrial experience in various aspects of plant operations.
