And I will bring you into the wilderness of the peoples, and there I will plead My case with you face to face. just as I pleaded My case with your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so I will plead My case with you,” says YHWH God. ~ Ezekiel 20:34-36 “Now a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a garland of twelve stars. Then being with child, she cried out in labor and in pain to give birth. “And another sign appeared in heaven: behold, a great, fiery red dragon having seven heads and ten horns, and seven diadems on his heads. His tail drew a third of the stars of heaven and threw them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was ready to give birth, to devour her Child as soon as it was born. She bore a male Child who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron. And her Child was caught up to God and His throne. Then the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, that they should feed her there one thousand two hundred and sixty days… “Now when the dragon saw that he had been cast to the earth, he persecuted the woman who gave birth to the male Child. But the woman was given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness to her place, where she is nourished for a time and times and half a time, from the presence of the serpent.” ~ Revelation 12:1-6, 13-14 A Place Prepared by God TABLE OF CONTENTS Introduction Introduction to American History 9 Hear, Learn, Keep, Do 11 Books Needed 15 To the Teacher 23 Week 1 Natives and Northmen 25 Week 2 Christopher Columbus 31 Week 3 Explorers 33 Week 4 Jamestown 39 Week 5 The Pilgrims 45 Week 6 Colonies 49 Week 7 More Colonies 53 Week 8 Washington & Wars with France 57 Week 9 Colonial Problems 63 Week 10 The Declaration of Independence 67 Week 11 The Revolutionary War 73 Week 12 George Washington 77 Week 13 Lewis and Clark 83 Week 14 The War of 1812 89 Week 15 The Oregon Trail & Mexican War 95 Week 16 Abraham Lincoln 101 Week 17 The Civil War 107 Week 18 The End of the Civil War 113 Week 19 Our Nation’s 100th Birthday 119 Week 20 Reconstruction 125 Week 21 The Spanish-American War 131 Week 22 A New Millennium 137 Week 23 World War I 145 Week 24 Roaring Twenties 151 Week 25 The Great Depression 157 Week 26 Headed Toward War 163 Week 27 Global Nightmare 169 Week 28 On the Homefront 175 Week 29 After the War 181 Week 30 Cultural Revolution 187 Week 31 Cultural Revolution (Part 2) 193 Week 32 Vietnam 199 Week 33 Approaching the Apocalypse 205 Week 34 Starting Over 211 Week 35 A New World 217 Week 36 Then and Now 223 7 Foundations of American History Appendix A Timeline Dates 229 Appendix B Memory Verses 231 Appendix C United States Presidents 233 Appendix E States & Capitals 235 8 A Place Prepared by God INTRODUCTION TO AMERICAN HISTORY There are so many opinions on how to present American History! While it is our goal to use the Bible as our primary textbook, it’s not as easy with American history as with world history because we can’t turn to many specific Scripture verses that specifically talk about the United States, to know YHWH’s opinion of our country and His plan for our people. We can find stories of people who truly honored God and His word, whether from the group who held to the testimony of Yeshua (the Christians) or those who kept His commands (Judaism). Of course, for the most part, in American history there were very few that did BOTH, but we’ll try to point out a few examples. Therefore, we will base our American History study on only a few Scripture passages. As you probably already know, we look at Revelation from an historicist viewpoint, which we use this in our world history curriculum at Foundations Press. We will continue this perspective in American History. “Then the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, that they should feed her there one thousand two hundred and sixty days” (Revelation 12:6). “But the woman was given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness to her place, where she is nourished for a time and times and half a time, from the presence of the serpent” (Revelation 12:14). America is mentioned in Revelation 12 as the place prepared by God in the wilderness to shelter those “who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Yeshua the Messiah” (Revelation 12:17). This place of shelter would only be in place from around 1620 to the 1970s or so.1 Of course, there are lots of evil things in the history of our country as well, and we believe they have always been present here but have especially increased since 1970s, as God seems to have removed His protection from us. These things come from Catholicism (and her Protestant sisters), from Islam, and from humanistic evolution, as the three “frogs” listed in Revelation 16:13-14. Therefore, our emphases will be the protection of true believers in Yeshua, Jews, and all those “who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Yeshua the Messiah.” In the 20th century, we’ll show how this protection ended and what replaced it. Many of the books we have chosen are resources that reflect this perspective, but this curriculum moves very quickly through American History, of necessity missing many possible interesting discussions. This is why our lesson plans will provide starting discussion points, but we’ll also recommend hundreds of excellent resources — from books, your local library, and websites online — and that’s where you really have freedom to put your own family’s special perspective on American History. You may even decide to take two or three weeks to do each week’s worth of lessons! 1 See The Revelation of Jesus Christ Revealed, by Christine Miller (Nothing New Press: 2016). 9 Foundations of American History NOTE ON SACRED NAMES: We use the letters YHWH throughout this book to refer to the Creator of the Universe, our Heavenly Father. His In your English Bible, His name is translated as “the LORD.” Common .יהוה name in Hebrew is spelled pronunciations are “Ye-ho-VAH” or “YAH-way.” We also refer to Jesus by His Hebrew name Yeshua (pronounced “ye-SHOO-ah”). You may wish to teach your children that His name in Hebrew means “YHWH saves” (Matthew 1:21). We often use the word Messiah in place of the word Christ. Both mean “anointed one” and refer to the prophesied King and redeemer of Israel. NOTE ON CATHOLICISM AND CHRISTIANITY: This curriculum refers to both Protestant and Catholic Christianity as the “Church” or “Christianity.” We do not believe that all members of historic Christianity were true believers; nor do we believe that all of them were unbelievers. We agree with Matthew 7:15-23, in which Yeshua states: “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thorn bushes or figs from thistles? Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Therefore by their fruits you will know them. “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’” 10 A Place Prepared by God HEAR, LEARN, KEEP, DO When God wants to teach mankind something, He follows a very specific method that I can copy in my homeschooling.

  • Apocalypse As Religious and Secular Discourse in Battlestar Galactica
Volume 6 2014-15 APOCALYPSE & GHOSTS Apocalypse as Religious and Secular Discourse in Battlestar Galactica and its Prequel Caprica Diane Langlumé University of Paris VIII Saint-Denis Abstract he concept of the end of the world is inherent in religious discourse. Illustratively, in T Medieval Christianity, a divine power was held responsible for cataclysmic events. In the post-Hiroshima era, the concept of apocalypse has taken on secular meaning. Not surprisingly, given recent history, the apocalypse has become a prominent component of popular television epics; broadcast narratives, such as Battlestar Galactica and Caprica, entwine both Biblical and secular versions of the apocalypse, thereby creating a novel apocalyptic discourse which, instead of establishing the apocalypse as an end, uses it as a foundation, as a thought-provoking means of conveying a political message of tolerance and acceptance of otherness, of encouraging self-reflectiveness; and as a way of denouncing the empty rhetoric of religious extremism. Keywords: Television series, Battlestar Galactica, Caprica, religion, Book of Mormon, Bible, Book of Revelation, John of Patmos, Genesis, Adam, Garden of Eden, Heaven, God, fall of man, the beast, false prophet, angel, Second Coming, resuscitation, apocalypse, end of the world, nuclear apocalypse, Hiroshima, post-apocalyptic, genocide, intertextuality, parody, pastiche, religious satire, 9/11, America, religious terrorism, suicide bombing, cyborg, robot, humanity, monotheism, polytheism. he television series Battlestar Galactica1 establishes its chronology between a nuclear T apocalypse that has just taken place and the threat of a potential future apocalypse,2 both at the hands of human-looking cyborgs called Cylons. Caprica, its prequel series, set fifty- eight years before the nuclear detonation, unfolds the events leading up to the apocalypse in Battlestar Galactica.

I know that my Redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth; and though this body be destroyed, yet shall I see God; whom I shall see for myself and mine eyes shall behold, and not as a stranger. For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself. For if we live, we live unto the Lord; and if we die, we die unto the Lord. Whether we live, therefore, or die, we are the Lord’s. Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord; even so saith the Spirit, for they rest from their labors. The Celebrant says the following Collect, first saying The Lord be with you. People And with thy spirit. Celebrant Let us pray. 1 O God, whose mercies cannot be numbered: Accept our prayers on behalf of thy servant Mary Anne, and grant her an entrance into the land of light and joy, in the fellowship of thy saints; through Jesus Christ thy Son our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.

  • British Romanticism January 8, 2017 “No More Mr
Walthall 1 Bill Walthall Professor J. Fleming LIT 509: British Romanticism January 8, 2017 “No More Mr. Nice Gaius”: Battlestar Galactica‘s Baltar as the Byronic Post-”Modern Prometheus” Conventional wisdom posits that the writers of the Romantic period had little interest in mining earlier artistic epochs--like the Classical era--for imitation (“Romanticism” LVIII), and that the movement itself can be viewed as a reaction against Neoclassicism. Yet interest in Classical Greece helped shape many writers of the period (Hebron). This melding of the modern with the ancient informs a trio of works from the era, all concerning the same mythic figure, a kind of rebel hero. This focus on Prometheus, pulling elements from versions of the myth by Hesiod, Aeschylus and Pausanias, can be found in Lord Byron’s poem “Prometheus,” Mary Shelley’s novel Frankenstein (subtitled The Modern Prometheus), and her husband Percy’s lyrical drama Prometheus Unbound. An evolutionary leap from Aeschylus’ mythic figure, Mary Shelley’s ‘Modern Prometheus’ has had a ripe “fecundity” (McQueen 125; Blais 67) of its own, spawning generations of works in a new medium: cinema--from the James Whale/Universal films of the 1930s to twenty-first century science-fiction pieces like EX_MACHINA and Westworld. Running through the works, however, from the ancient (proleptically) through today, is that same rebel protagonist archetype, the Byronic Hero. Gaius Baltar, the flawed human scientist from Ronald D. Moore’s 2003-2009 television series Battlestar Galactica, is a kind of post-“Modern Prometheus,” a neo-Romantic Byronic Hero who can trace his literary evolution Walthall 2 back through Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, to the ancient myth of the life-giver/fire-bringer, as found in Aeschylus’ Prometheus Bound.

Time to Play the Religion Card: Messiah Complexes in Battlestar Galactica. Major Professor: Dr. Miriam Mara. In 2003, Battlestar Galactica (BSG) was re-invented from its 1978 roots and updated to a post-apocalyptic narrative that reflects numerous issues in current American culture, including the influence of religious rhetoric in post-9/11 politics. As theorized by psychoanalyst Carl Jung, the fictions of a culture reveal the subconscious values and beliefs of that culture,1 and BSG has proven fertile ground for such investigations. Four major compilations of critical essays on BSG have been published to date, with some articles analyzing the post-9/11 politics and others on the use of religion in the narrative, but few examine these elements in conjunction with each other or how the characters use them.

I would like to read from the Church Age Book before we begin this study in case some pick up this study without having their hearts ready to hear from the Holy Spirit. Church Age Book Chapter 9 - The Laodicean Church Age P:78 The attitude of this age is exactly what it was then. People have it all. They know it all. They cannot be taught . If a point of truth from the Word comes up and a man tries to explain his view to one with an opposing view, the listener is not at all listening that he might learn, but is listening only to refute what is being said. Now I want to ask a fair question. Can Scripture fight Scripture? Does the Bible contradict the Bible? Can there be two doctrines of truth in the Word that say the opposite or oppose the other? NO. IT CANNOT BE SO . Yet how many of God's people have their eyes open to that truth? Not even one percent , as far as I know, have learned that ALL Scripture is given by God and ALL is profitable for doctrine, reproof, correction, etc. If all Scripture is thusly given, then every verse will dovetail if given a chance. But how many believe in predestination unto election and reprobation unto destruction? Those who don't, will they listen? No, they will not .
