È una pubblicazione edita per consentire a Team, Concorrenti e Media di preparare adeguatamente la propria partecipazione alla 103^ Targa Florio – Rally Internazionale di Sicilia, terza gara del Campionato Italiano Rally. Eventuali aggiornamenti saranno pubblicati sul sito www.targa-florio.it. 1. Introduzione Il Rally ha rappresentato la naturale prosecuzione della corsa automobilistica più antica del Mondo. La denominazione Rally Targa Florio la ha acquisita dal 1978, già Rally Internazionale di Sicilia dal 1972, fu individuato, anche dallo stesso Nino Vaccarella, come la più naturale continuazione ed evoluzione della corsa dei Florio, anche se nata come gara di velocità su strada, tipologia di competizioni che dopo il 1977 non fu più permesso disputare in Italia. La Targa Florio è un appuntamento immancabile, il suo fascino unico, le insidie delle strade delle Madonie, il calore e l’abbraccio del pubblico, sono elementi irrinunciabili per le case automobilistiche, ma soprattutto per i piloti. Ciascun driver desidera almeno una partecipazione alla Targa Florio nel proprio palmarès. Il nome nell’Albo d’Oro è davvero un privilegio per pochi. La magica cornice della partenza, le prove speciali corse in mezzo a due ali di folla, l’abbraccio del pubblico alle assistenze ed al traguardo, rendono unica la corsa siciliana. La grande attesa della partenza, come le relative operazioni preliminari di verifiche, ricognizioni e shake down ed il crescendo d’emozioni che precedono il “minuto zero”, quello in cui ogni equipaggio è chiamato ad attraversare con emozione l’elegante Piazza Verdi dinnanzi al maestoso Teatro Massimo di Palermo dove previsto il Parco Partenza della 103th Targa Florio Rally e Targa Florio Historic Rally. Grande momento per vivere insieme ai protagonisti del campionato Italiano Rally e Campionato Italiano Rally Autostoriche l’emozione che precede la partenza, ammirare le vetture e dialogare con i componenti degli equipaggi pronti allo start. Quindi gli equipaggi, passando in mezzo a due ali di folla per lasciare il capoluogo siciliano alla volta delle Madonie. Si torna sul classico percorso della TARGA, dopo il via dal cuore di Palermo. "Rallying is extraordinarily popular across Europe," said Bill Warner, Founder and Chairman of the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance. "Today American motorsport fans are seeing the appeal of rallying. A big part of that is because rally cars are spectacular. They're the triathletes of motorsport." The traditions of rallying date to the dawn of the automobile. Rallies are the direct descendants of the original city-to-city races of the early 20th Century and of long distance open road races like the fabled Mille Miglia. World Championship rallying requires complex strategic and tactical preparation. Most special stages - the scored "races" against time over closed roads - are done day and night in any weather. The key element in rally strategy is tire selection. Competitors face ice, snow, wet and dry pavement - sometimes no pavement at all - and often all these conditions during the same stage. The length of a traditional World Championship rally stage is 60 kilometers - 37 miles. The grueling 13-round international World Rally Championship season opens in January with the fabled Monte Carlo Rally and concludes in November in Britain with the RAC - Royal Automobile Club - Rally. "The Monte Carlo Rally is the most famous rally," said Warner. "It was first run in 1911, the same year as the inaugural Indy 500." A quartet of significant, championship-winning Lancia rally cars from the Jacksonville-based Campion Collection will anchor the 20th anniversary Amelia Concours World Rally Cars class.

One of those cool days favored the volunteer's cruise to the Rod and Gun Club, as covered in this issue of the Tappet Clatter. It was a great excuse to get out of the house, meet with our friends and blow the dust off our Inside this favorite cars. In anticipation of reopening, Revs Institute has all safety protocols and guidelines in place, but at present no opening date has been released.     Sono nato il 7 gennaio 1958 a Bassano del Grappa, in provincia di Vicenza. La mia vita è sempre stata basata sullo sport. Lo sci, il motocross, i rallies. Non sono competizioni sportive ma sfide perfette per misurarsi con se stessi e gli altri. 1974 - 1979 Il primo successo lo ricordo come fosse ieri: 1974, Campione Italiano di sci a soli 16 anni. Poi la licenza da pilota, le prime gare di motocross e quel titolo di Campione del Triveneto e di vice Campione Cadetti conquistato due anni più tardi, splendido presagio di quello che sarà il mio futuro. Ricordi di gare, di vittorie, di una moto da cross con il numero 71 e di una carriera come pilota ufficiale Aprilia. Pochi mesi e il grande salto verso quella che, qualche anno più tardi, sarà la mia favola mondiale non tarda arrivare. Una favola a quattro ruote. A 20 anni la prima auto, una Opel Kadett GTE (Gruppo 1): il sogno di correre nei rallies, quelli che contano, diventa realtà. E' il 1979: undici partenze e altrettanti arrivi al traguardo mi consegnano il primo titolo, quell'italiano esordienti che mi proietta sullo scenario dell'affascinante mondo delle corse. 1980 - 1989 Nel 1980, con l'Opel Ascona SR arriva anche il titolo di Gruppo 2 conquistato nei rallies internazionali davanti a quei grandi piloti professionisti che solo pochi anni prima, motorino e zaino in spalla, rincorrevo su e giù per l'Italia ad ammirare le imprese motoristiche. Un'emozione indescrivibile, un successo tanto atteso che mi spalanca le porte del primo ingaggio ufficiale, quello dell'Opel che mi schiera nella sua squadra corse.
