ABOUT WEEK CHENGDU

In 2015, both countries celebrate the 65 year anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Denmark, and Chengdu city will celebrate this event with a “Danish week”.

In September 2015, the municipality of Chengdu, province of Sichuan in Western China hosts a “Denmark Week”. The main idea is to create even closer bonds bet- ween the sister cities of Chengdu and as well as bringing attention to the existing co-operation between China and Denmark.

WORKSHOP: DANISH ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION

Short description: In May 2014, a research and innovation center named: ”Sino-Danish New Energy and Environmental Protection Research and De- velopment Application Center” opened in Chengdu. China is increasingly interested in solving challenges with waste-water treatment, renewable energy and environmental protec- tion. By establishing a Sino-Danish research centre, the aim is to facilitate public and private investment, trading, research and development.

The workshop will address topics in the area of new energy and advanced environmental protection technology. The Sino-Danish Center is hosting the workshop. Chinese and Danish speakers are going to give presentations about Sino-Danish co-operation.

WORKSHOP: PLAY AND LEARNING IN DENMARK AND IN CHINA

Short description: Will China take inspiration from Danish playschool pedagogy? Chinese and Danish experts will illustrate the subject at the workshop.

Through a number of years, VIA has worked closely with Chinese universities, authorities and private companies as to co-operation on education and sales of consulting services within Danish pedagogy. At the workshop, some of these close co-operating partners will contribute with their expert knowledge.

The purpose of the workshop is sharing of knowledge and investigating potential for co-opera- tion.

THE FUTURE PLAYROOM

Short description: The Danish firm, Zeso Architects, will demonstrate Dan- ish architecture within the pedagogical field by building the playroom of the future. The general idea is to create a room, which through forms, materials and colours inspires children to use their imagination, to be creative, and which motivates them to interact – a room for free play in a social community.

Chinese students from Chengdu will be involved in the actu- al construction of the room.

LEGO Education China delivers LEGO for children to play with at the future playroom.

DEVELOPMENT OF CHILDRENS’ WEAR COLLECTION AND PRESENTATION IN A FASHION SHOW

Short description: A teacher and two students from VIA Design will develop a childrens’ wear collection. Chinese students and design- ers from Chengdu help design and produce the collection. The project will demonstrate Danish fashion design in chil- drens’ wear.

Also, it will be tested how students may get inspired by each other across different cultures and professional ap- proaches.

Time: The project will go on from Monday 14 to Friday 18 Sepember. The collection will be presented in a fashion show on 18 and 19 September.

ACTIVITIES ON FRIDAY AND SATURDAY

Official ceremony: An official ceremony will be held on Friday, with speeches, presentation of a Horsens-Chengdu film produced by two VIA students, performance of the Horsens-Chengdu song by children from Chengdu, and presentation of the two projects, i.e. the playroom and the fashion show. The venue will be open to the public.

In addition, the following activities are planned for the Friday and Saturday:

Music performance: Anders Smith Boysen, Horsens musician, and Lene Bjarke Skov from the Cultural Department of Horsens Municipality, will perform Danish childrens’ songs. The Chengdu Harmony International Choir also performs Danish songs.

Panda drawings: Exhibition with drawings by children from Horsens.

Horsens exhibition: Exhibition with photos from Horsens.

Creative activity for children: Trine Kok, a local designer from Horsens, will prepare paper cuts for the children to assemble and take home. Trine Kok will not be present in Chengdu. This activity will be facilitated by participants from Horsens Municipality.

Horsens-Chengdu film: Two students from VIA Film & Transmedia/VIA Multiplatform Storytelling & Production have produced a film about the two cities. Thus, the students have been in Chengdu and Horsens prior to Denmark Week with a special view to showing the film during the event in September. The co-operation between the municipalities of Horsens and Chengdu and VIA University College has been close.
