SIGManufacturing 2007 Catalog No. 65 2007 Preface Remember when you first started gazing up at airplanes passing overhead wonder- ing where each one was going. Soon it became a game to identify each plane by sight - sometimes even by sound. Then you started making models of your favorite airplanes, often a plastic model kit that you only imagined flying. But one day, you built a model from nothing but sticks of wood and it flew! Maybe it didn’t fly well and maybe it didn’t even survive that first flight but you NEVER forget the first time something you created from parts and pieces took wing and headed for the sky. Most of us can trace our love of aviation back to a very young age and many of us have passed on our love of aviation and modeling to our children and grandchildren. That’s how traditions get started. Hazel Here at Sig we have 56 years of modeling tradition. Back in 1951, balsa wood was difficult to find in all the wide variety of pre-cut shapes and sizes we take for granted today. So, Glen and Hazel Sigafoose started cutting and selling balsa wood out of the basement of their house. Now all these years later guess what, Sig is still cutting balsa wood – still in the same small midwestern town of Montezuma, IA using a homegrown workforce with decades of experience. Some of our employees are third-generation with entire families carrying on the tradition at Sig. Of course, we have expanded…just a little. What was once a basement is now 3 city blocks. What was once just balsa wood is now paints, glues, covering, engines, fuel, hardware and field equip- ment. Everything you need for model aircraft is right here at Sig. And then there are the airplanes themselves. Over the years, a host of legendary designers have given us names like Kadet, Kougar, Four-Star and Rascal. Our scale models are all competition winners including such classics like the Citabria, Antoinette and Hazel Sig’s own Clipped Wing Cub. You can hardly call yourself a modeler, if you haven’t flown a Sig airplane. Today, Sig is one of the last manufacturers still producing model aircraft kits. While some of our older classic models are produced as they were originally designed, a modern Sig kit is computer designed, the plans are computer drawn and many parts are laser-cut from the designer’s original computer file. In fact, a Sig kit isn’t really designed – it’s engineered. But we also realize that today, many people simply don’t have time to build a model airplane from a kit. Or, maybe you had a mishap with your favorite model in late summer and there isn’t enough time to build a model before the good flying weather gives out. Sig has a great selection of pre-built (ARF) models as well. We give the same attention to detail and the same design expertise to our pre-built models as to our kits. In fact, many of our famous kit designs are also available as an ARF model. We invite you to join the Sig family – it’s a big family with members in every corner of the world. And it’s a friendly family – at any trade show, contest, or at Sig’s annual summer R/C and Control Line Fly-In’s here in Montezuma, feel free to stop by and say hello. We’d love to meet you. Well now, you don't have to! America's best flying R/C trainer is available in Almost-Ready-To-Fly form. The Best Flying ARF Trainer - Bar None! This is no overweight, fast flying "lead sled" ARF! It's a carbon copy of the airplane that hundreds of club instructors know is the "easiest-to-fly" kit-built trainer in the world. You won't find a better flying ARF trainer, or a better way to get started in Radio Control flying, than the KADET LT-40 ARF. Behaves perfectly in flight, with true "Hands Off" stability. If the student pilot gets disoriented, merely let go of the control sticks and the LT-40 will recover itself and return to level flight within 2-4 seconds. Larger than other ARF trainers, making it easier to see in flight. A much lighter wing loading than other ARF trainers. That means it can fly slower, giving the student pilot more time to think and react to what the airplane is doing. That makes learning to fly R/C quicker and easier! A true "Clark-Y" airfoil for better penetration in the wind and a better roll rate. Fliers are always impressed with the LT-40's ability to perform consecutive aileron rolls and to fly inverted. This is one trainer that can take you beyond learning just straight and level flight! An ARF You Can Be Proud Of! This beautifully hand-crafted airplane takes no shortcuts in quality of materials or workmanship. KEY FEATURES: A COMPLETELY PRE-BUILT ALL-WOOD AIRFRAME. Simple construction is easily repairable in the event of a mishap, using materials that are readily available at most hobby shops. PRE-COVERED WITH WHITE SIG AEROKOTE®. Covering punctures and tears are easily repairable. Decals are provided to duplicate the box color scheme, or use your own imagination to make your KADET LT-40 ARF look different than anybody else's. At 70", the Sig LT-40 ARF is larger than other .40 size trainers on the market. This gives the LT-40 ARF two big advantages. Visibility: The LT-40 ARF is simply easier to see. It's large wing stands out even at extreme distances. Compare the inset photo here with the main picture on the previous page. You will notice that the color scheme on the top and bottom of the wing is different. This helps you maintain orientation and if you get into trouble, helps you quickly determine the attitude of the model so that you can give the proper command. Beginners tend to let the model drift far away sometimes. When other trainers are just a small dot in the sky, you'll still be able to see the LT-40 ARF and maintain control. Wing Loading: Wing loading is how much weight the wing is carrying and for trainers; you want a light wing loading. This means a lightweight structure and that big 70 in. wing. This enables the model to be stable and controllable at low speeds. With the LT-40 ARF, you won't have that uncomfortable feeling of always being one step behind the model. Stalls are gentle, turns are smooth and landing approaches are stable and predictable all the way to touchdown. LT-40 ARF Content Easy to build, repair and customize. Build: The LT-40 ARF is engineered for quick assembly with a minimal number of parts. Decals are included to quickly match the trim scheme shown on the box. Repair: Because the LT-40 ARF is pre-covered in only one color, repairs are easy. All you need is white Sig Aerokote® and a new decal sheet. Even a major structural repair can be recovered to match perfectly - a difficult to impossible task with other models covered with several colors. The LT-40 ARF - the end of the mis-matched patch. Customize: Would you rather have a trim scheme that's uniquely yours and doesn't look like every other trainer at the flying field? Toss our decals and go wild. The all-white base is the perfect "canvas" for stars, sunbursts, and rainbows. Or, go with logos from your favorite sports team, drink, motorcycle or company. You're only limited by your imagination. www.sigmfg.com 5 Order No. SIGRC67RTF R/C Aircraft ARF’s Includes a removable horizontal stab for convenient storage or transport.
