ECONOMIC FREEDOM FIGHTERS STUDENTS Who We Are COMMAND is a radical and militant student Economic Emancipation Movement which brings together revolutionary students, fearless, radical, and militant Activists, under the need to pursue the struggle for economic emancipation which is intertwined with free education. The EFFSC derives its existence from the constitution of EFF, it is governed by and adheres to the policies and programmes of the EFF.

The EFFSC takes lessons from the notation that “political power, without economic emancipation is meaningless”. The Movement is inspired by ideals promoted and practiced through organic forms of political leadership.

The EFFSC draws inspiration from Marxist-Leninist and Fanonian schools of thought on its analysis of colonialism, the education system, imperialism, race and class contradictions in every society. The EFFSC draws inspiration programmatically from Heterodox economics, whose conception of development in post-World War II is the most possible, coherent and cogent form of developmental path. Logo & Colours

The Logo of the EFFSC shall be the map of the Continent of Africa representing a commitment to Who We Are its people, resources and humanity; The Continent will be coloured in green to signify the Land that must be restored to its people; from within the Southern tip of the Continent will be a black clinched fist signifying the unity in strength of the oppressed of the continent; The fist will carry a red pen signifying the new weapon to fight a modern struggle, mired in the blood of generations of fallen students who fought for freedom; At the bottom of the fist, shall be books; representing the significance of education, which can be used as a form of means of production to liberate the African people; Finally, at the northern tip of the continent shall be a gold star, representing the progressive internationalist character of our African Revolution, international solidarity and the pursuit of total emancipation of the oppressed peoples of the world. Katekani Namane was the chief founder of the branch. He was a dedicated revolutionary that joined the EFF in its inception in 2013 when it was not fashionable. He was a very ideologically polished cadre, a disciplined revolutionary that could articulate the ideas and principles of the movement at any given time and platform. His love and passion for the

EFF and its objective of achieving Economic Freedom made him understand that for such to be achieved it was imperative for the organisation to find expression in the institutions of higher learning starting with the one he was registered in. He then dedicated his time in trying mobilise students to the ultimate call of Economic Freedom and fighting against the class enemy. His efforts shall forever be appreciated and remembered, history has no blank pages, the branch is where it is today because of his patience and dedication to the struggle.

The inception of the movement begun in the year 2014. Comrade Katekani Namane was the chief founder, he was later joined by another comrade who was passionate about the EFF comrade Bantu Kobese who was a Masters candidate at that time. The two met at District 6 Hostels where comrade Bantu was doing door-to-door for the mother-body, they then exchanged contacts and later met at the CPUT District Six Student Centre where they discussed the future of the EFFSC and what was to be done. Bantu came with another comrade called Lulo Makaluza and together they shaped and paved a way forward on what was to be done. As they progressed and managed to convince a few students to join they got in contact with progressive comrades from Mowbray Campus who had the same objective as them. Those comrades were Mthuthuzeli Zinganto and Lungisa Tshonyane. At that time all Students Command Branches in Higher Learning institutions were recognized as EFF mother body branches and Regional, Provincial and National Assemblies were around the corner therefore Mowbray and District 6 Lungisa Tshonyane, Mthuthuzeli Zinganto and Katekani Namane campus merged to form one EFF Branch and then ( Parliament 4 March 2015) Leadership was elected. C O N T I N U E S . . .

Moving to the year 2015 Bantu Kobese was a victim of The inter squabbles continued and the branch financial exclusion and therefore had to leave the revolutionaries maintained discipline and isolated and and go back to the Eastern Cape. After dismissed Lulo for trying to destabilize the movement the NPA which resolved that the Students' Command as he was the center of all squabbles. went on to must be established a resolution was taken that Lulo all campuses had to be independent and be join SASCO. The EFFSC revolutionaries who remained separated from the IEC demarcated wards that then behind soldiered on with the principle in mind that led to the District 6 and Mowbray combined EFF NO ONE IS ABOVE THE ORGANISATION and that branch to be disbanded. The District 6 campus then the organisation MUST ALWAYS BE PROTECTED had to formulate a task team and Lulo as was elected FROM REACTIONARIES AND AGENTS. the Branch Convener and Katekani the Branch coordinator.

The NPA came with many internal squabbles and disagreements, the Andile Mngxithama faction caused many divisions in all branches, Katekani and Lulo were not getting along very well . After the EFF Rally held in Kwa Langa on the 21st of March 2015 Katekani met a dedicated cadre who happened to be a staunch fighter just like him and studied at the District 6 campus also, his name was Songeze Phahlindlela. The two met at the E-learning building on the 24th of March 2015 and Katekani invited to an meeting that was held at Songeze EFFSC CPUT Songeze Phahlindlela and Katekani Namane the District 6 Student Centre. A second meeting was held after the dismissal of Lulo where a decision was taken to elect a new task team.

Task Team was as follows:

Convenor: Songeze Phahlindlela Deputy Convenor: Sinazo Mgoqi Coordinator: Katekani Namane Deputy Coordinator: Siphatho Malotana Treasurer: Neo Mongale

Few weeks later we removed Neo for disobedience and counter revolutionary behavior and replaced him with District Six Task Team (District 6 Student Centre, 5 June 2015) Sbongile Nyoni. After that the task team operated, working the ground tirelessly. The founding National Student Assembly (NSA) of the EFFSC was set to sit from the 14th to 16th of June 2015 at the University of Limpopo the branch delegated Katekani, Zikhona, Songeze and Sbongile (absent). Coming back from NSA the task team worked on recruiting more fighters for affiliation, but were clobbered with processes by the sitting SRC led by PASMA. That meant the EFFSC District 6 was not allowed to contest elections that before due to not being affiliated, the EFFSC Bellville branch was the only branch that contested that year.

The movement also gave birth to oblivion of what was transpiring, many were confused a strong alliance with PASMA afterwards which whether to leave or stay as CPUT threatened to bring continued until the year 2018 where EFFSC became police if students did not leave within 48 hours an overnight giant which surprised many. whereas on social media and the ground leaders were saying the opposite, after they won the battle of eviction in court leadership deployed comrades across all campuses to address the masses and reassure them that they dont have to leave. Lonwabo Madikane (PASMA), Busisiwe Makeleni (PASMA), Sam Pinzi (EFFSC) and Katekani Namane (EFFSC) were deployed to District Six to address students and provide clarity, this gave the EFFSC a platform to build itself, this is when many leaders like Sipho Mokoena were attracted by the organisation. Songeze Phahlindlela was a dedicated ground soldier of the movement and has been present since the inception of the branch. He was very disciplined, coordinated and organised. He is responsible for the recruitment and grooming of many of the current leaders. He sacrificed his time and academics to ensure that there was a recruitment table outside the Student Center each and everyday. Songeze stood the test of time, remained focused even though CPUT opposition parties were mocking him and suppressing the organisation through processes in order to frustrate it and delay it from finding expression within the student populace. Songeze stood firm his understanding of politics and its processes gave him an upper hand, eventually under his leadership the organisation got affiliated and got an office. He further went up the ladder and become the FIRST EFFSC Western Cape Deputy Secretary even his journey to that road led to him betraying his branch but he later redeemed himself and came went back to apologize as per the branch's request.

The organisation mostly attracted male students at that time Yolanda Mdawe was the only active female the branch had, opposition parties would make fun of us and call us names like "Stokvel" or "Boys Club". A radical effort was then put in place to ensure that organisation attracts all genders, Yolanda Mdawe dedicated her time in ensuring that more females were attracted to the organisation, she went class to class recruiting and mobilized her all entire class to join, coincidentally Yolanda, Tumiso, Mthetheli, Siphathele and Luthando were all doing the same course (ND:Management) and were in one group so mobilization became easy, the ended up having a stronghold in Siphe Nombona, Songeze Phahlindlea, Kutlwano Dhlodhlo & EFFSC Sibonile Noguba at the Recruitment Table that course. Songeze, Katekani and Sam would continue to spearhead the fast growing organisation. Since the Final examinations of 2015 could not be written because of the #FeesMustFall movement they had to be moved to January so must of the returning students where busy preparing for their exams during the registration period. When all that was done the PASMA & EFFSC student leaders of District Six met and decided that the maldministraion of the institution was too much and the fact the insititution had suspended the leaders that were leading the #FeesMustFall movement and 78 (CPUT78) other Ayabulela Mlisa (PASMA), Aviwe Gwayi (SASCO) & Songeze students had a pending case against the state and the Phahlindlela(EFFSC) leading the #PrinsMustFall masses to BMW instituition. The leaders came to a resolution that the campus, March 2016) VC had to be dismissed with immediate effect, but The movement awakened the activism of many first resolved that all students needed to be registerd first years since many wanted to experreince the before any revolting begun, immediately after #FeesMustFall fever they saw on TV the previous year. registration the #PrinsMustFall movemment begun, Many young activists then started to find interest in leaders mobilised the students, shutdown the entire politics and got attracted to the EFFSC, leaders like campus and then moved to the satellite campuses. Olona Tshangana, Yanga Sikolo, Sinethemba Only a few of SASCO individuals partook in the Gubula, Abdullah Black and many others. This movement because of the differences they had would give strength to the organisation as it was being amongst themselves as an organisation. The VC was joined by energetic young individuals who were willing then removed whilst investigations where still taking to learn and assist in changing the political landscape place. of CPUT. Songeze, Katekani and Sam begun to teach and equip the new revolutionaries about organisational discipline, the policies and principles of the organisation, political processes and the ideological perspective of the EFF/EFFSC. The organisation was new therefore it did not have an identity so as its members we had to give it a blueprint, one that was going to inspire hope to the masses and completely differ from the opposition. We carefully studied the opposition, learned its mistakes, weaknesses and strengths and simultaneously studied the ground, and the management. This was very imperative for us to learn because you cannot go to war with an enemy you do not know and subsequent to that you can never lead people you dont understand. Katekani Namane, Sam Pinzi & Songeze Phahlindlela (District 6 BGM, May 2016)

At this time the branch did not have any resources, we only had a few large sized Tshirts and coming from a newly formed mother-body resources was a very scarce commodity. The lack of resources though taught us to have a strong political will and it made students appreciate our efforts, after every progressive program we do we would always mention to them that we managed to do such without any resources now it was clear that we could do more with resources on our side and the only way that can happen is if they vote us into power. Meetings of the branch at this time were only attended by a few, it was difficult to even fill up a mere classroom and as our first assembly was approaching we had to mobilize as much as we could for us to qourate. Songeze the Convenor gave every member 10 forms each and gave us a mandate to come with those forms filled and paid to our next meeting, this applied pressure on the members and District Six members (District 6 BGM, May 2016) drastically increased the membership. The manifesto of EFFSC CPUT is a 12 page booklet that was concluded and drafted at the Mowbray campus, Barkley Davis Building on the 28 of August 2016. It was drafted by the Mowbray and District 6 branches. This document was a collection of all student struggles across all campuses. The idea for creating a suggestion box derived from Leninism , it was a Leninist question seeking clarity on "What is to be done?" . Since the EFFSC was new and had no identity we had to study the opposition learn from their mistakes and look for loopholes , one of the loopholes we saw was that there was a vacuum in student activism, it lacked ideological footprints, it was all District 6 Fighters engaging students (Piazza, August 2016) about excitement relevance and maintaining the status quo. Our opposition had existed for many years but have not done any developmental change thats mainly because they had no manifesto, they were disconnected with the material conditions of the ground. All of them did the same thing when in power, they would exchange power but still remain the same it was more like watching Animal Farm on repeat. They would disappear the whole year then rise all of a sudden during elections and use Bashes and Tshirts to convince students . As Amilca Cabral teaches us that the problem in Africa is the ideological deficiency of the liberation movement in power, we had witnessed that the ruling opposition on campus had lost its objective of existence, to them it was all about looting money and the mistake they would do is to assume that they knew the struggle of the masses on the ground therefore we saw it fit to allow students to be the one who will tell us their day-to-day struggles and let them build their own manifesto that will be a true reflection of their material conditions, we went class to class, faculty to faculty approached all races, all religions and all tribes to try and accommodate all the students this was something opposition has never done before. Students started writing down what they thought needed to be changed and put their notes in the box, students appreciated this as it made them feel part of the change. Afterwards each campus sat its own BGM to combine the notes into one draft and then later met as Central to draft the final booklet, the Students Manifesto as we call it today, or the Bible of CPUT Politics as Katekani Namane used to call it. C O N T I N U E S . . .

As an organisation that is founded on Marxist-Leninist and It was clear that the existence of the EFFSC at CPUT was Fanonian school of thought with a mandate of abolishing going to introduce radical change. Everything we did had classism and racism, it was imperative for us to have a never been done before, there has never been a 12 page manifesto that reflected our ideological background and documented manifesto in the history of CPUT politics, perspective. You cant claim to be a liberation movement there has never been a manifesto launch at CPUT and but you do not have a manifesto, a manifesto should serve there has never been a deliberate effort to tackle the as a constant reminder of your objective of existence and fundamental struggles of the masses. The masses of that until its logical conclusion then it means that your CPUT voted for PASMA and SASCO because they had no constituency is not liberated as yet and therefore the other alternative, all they did was just sing, provide Tshirst revolution should continue. Our opposition used to have a and do bashes on the other side the EFFSC was different manifesto each and ever year which contained preaching developemntal and radical political change. weak matters that can be dealt with at class rep and house com level, they never had the will to challenge the core struggles of the masses, the mere fact that they had different manifestos in all the campuses they existed in exposed that they had no ideological relation to their Constitutions. We can agree that all campuses have different dynamics therefore manifestos are perhaps bound to be not the same, but the question would be what organisational mandate are you taking to the Central SRC level when you dont have a central manifesto that speaks direct to the core fundamental struggles of students, this is why no constructive policies and developmental programs were initiated at Central SRC EFFSC CPUT Manifesto Cover Page level in all the years our opposition has existed for. The manifesto was launched on the 16th of September 2016 at the Lecturer Theatre 4. This is the day the Students Manifesto was officially introduced to the student populace of CPUT. It rained heavy on this day but even the weather could not stop the masses from attending. Forces worked the ground to ensure that the venue was filled to capacity. This was the first gathering of the EFFSC District 6 to fill a venue to its full capacity, this inspired hope in fighters as we were only a few weeks to our first SRC elections. The SRC led by SASCO kept on frustrating us with process The march was on the 14th of September 2016, two days by denying us affiliation. That meant that we could not before our manifesto launch and 7 days before the utilize any property of the institution we were even elections so our timing was perfect, this is when the prohibited to place our posters on campus, this was a Student Command formally introduced itself and painted straight sabotage because it meant we could not do any a clear picture that we were not here to play. History was programs. The resilience of Chairman Songeze and the written, immediately after the march on that same day collective eventually led us to being affiliated, the Deans allowances were distributed to students. We received the Appeal Tribunal Committee granted the EFFSC District news as we were sitting in our BGM held after the march, Six affiliation status on the 10th of August 2016. That fighters started posing with Fundi Cards celebrating the meant we now had the authority to utilize the resources victory social media was blooming on the other hand of the institution and do programs. We did not waste students giving praise and thanks to the EFFSC and the anytime, we hit the ground running. The first program we opposition being intimidated as usual tried to claim the did was a march to the Financial Aid Office for the victory and twist the story, but it was too late students immediate releasing of NSFAS allowances. At this CPUT knew who was in the forefront. had a messed up NSFAS system that only distributed allownace in the second semester and did not have any fixed amount, student would just receive random amounts. Both PASMA and SASCO seemed to be comfortable with the status quo because they never challenged the Financial Aid Office ,not even once. We took it upon ourselves as the EFFSC, we called upon our sister branches Mowbray and Bellville to assist us with numbers. This was the FIRST ever march organised by the EFFSC CPUT. Offices and leaders articulated the position of the Deans Secretary signing and organisation and the frustration of students. Fighters then receiving memorandum (Piazza,14 september 2016) demanded the Dean to come down and take our memorandum, the Dean was in Bellville but she deployed her Secretary to come and sign and collect the memorandum. We demanded that the Secretary meets us in Piazza in front of all the students. This march proved to students that the EFFSC was here to bring radical change and it was changing the political landscpape and was not asking for permission from anyone.

Since the EFFSC was a strategic movement led by srategic thinkers we knew that we had to linvite media to the our march to gain public sympathy and put CPUT management under pressudre. Indeed media was called and the EFFSC hit the front page of the Daily Sun newspaper, we understood the power and influence media has and our stratey worked very well. The newspaper article was published the day after the march and CPUT management obvioiusly went into panic mode and sent their spokesperson to clean up the mess. With media applying pressure CPUT continued to release allowances and students never forgot that its the EFFSC that made it possible. This was also a clear message to the management and opposition that we have arrived and the game was about to change. Although oppostion continued to undermine us until it was too late. They watched us grow in front of their eyes as we were humble and very patient with ourselves. Its only a fool that could not see that the EFFSC were giants in the making. Under the leadership of the capable Songeze Phahlindlela we patiently grew and created our own footprints and style of play. After this succesful march we headed to our first SRC elections high in confidence, although we knew we were not going to win but we wanted to ensure that opposition feels our presence, our goal was to get as many votes as we could in order to gain a seat in the Newspaper article on the EFFSC NSFAS March (September 2016) CSRC. S R C E L E C T I O N S This was our first time contesting SRC elections because During this time the organisation did not have we were not affiliated in the previous years. At this we had resources,we were not given any budget from the SRC for a strong alliance with PASMA, merely because we shared obvious reasons, we had to contribute as members to go a common enemy and our ideological background was print Tshirts and in order for our party agents to have food. similar and also the relationship was built from the The worst part was that we did not have enough FeesMustFall movement. The agenda was to dismantle candidates mainly because we were a new organisation SASCO the gatekeepers of the system, we knew we were and majority of members were first year students, the only not going to win mainly because we were not fully fighters that contested and were members are Sipho established as yet and we had not managed to gain the Mokoena (Chairperson elect), Tumiso Mfisa (Secretary trust of the majority of students therefore ours was to elect) , Noncebo Ngubo (Treasurer elect), Mthetheleli ensure that we push for one Central SRC seat. Mkhenku (Spokesperson elect) and Lukhanyo Sonqayi (Faculty rep elect) the rest were just friends of members whom we had to beg to contest under our banner.

Fighters campaigning on campus(Student Centre, 21 September 2016) District Six LSRC Deployees(SRC elections, September 2016) C O N T I N U E S . . . These elections were a real test of character and helped us grow and learn processes. At this time students politics at CPUT were still vibrant and energetic, during elections no one would sleep in their residences SRC Fighters folding the manifesto (Hannover Residence, 20 September 2016) offices were the place to be . Unfortunately for us we did not have an office so we would gather at the Piazza or at Hannover Residence where the Chairman stayed. During campaigning SASCO and PASMA both had masses and Tshirts, we only had less than 10 ground forces but we never gave up. Our opposition would both do the same thing when campaigning, they would get to a residence sing, address and then leave we on the other hand went door to door engaging students and students appreciated Fighters doing door to door this because they had a chance to ask questions, during (SP Plein Residence, 21 September 2016) the door to door we would also conscientize them that singing and Tshirst will never liberate them and solve their struggles. When it came to the debate of the manifestos there was a huge misunderstanding between us and the DSA we were of the view that Songeze Phahlindlela the Chairman was going to be the one representing us, he had even prepared a 2 page EFFSC Deployees on manifesto debate articulative speech but all to find out that its only (MPH , September 2016) candidates who are eligble to speak, therefore we had to deploy Sipho Mokoena, Tumiso Mfisa and Lukhanyo Sonqayi to go speak and comrades were very unprepared and could not stand the hawling of PASMA and SASCO masses because of inexperience. C O N T I N U E S . . . The counting process as usual took more than one day, SASCO kept on asking for recounts, it was really difficult for them to accept defeat. Comrades had to sleep there for 3 days counting, eventually SASCO gave in and PASMA was declared the winners. We celebrated along Fighters during counting of votes (MPH , 23 September 2016) with PASMA, after that we heard that we had lost Mowbray only by 90 votes it was really painful because at that time we really had hope of winning Mowbray campus because we were the main opposition there and Mowbray branch was strong. After we heard that our sister branch Bellville campus had surpassed SASCO and was second in the results of Bellville elections, this was really good news for us because it meant our Central votes had increased and we have achieved our goal of SRC elections victory celebration wining a seat in Central SRC. We quickly went to convene (Sadenburgh , 25 September 2016) in Sadenburgh Residence where the Deputy Chair Katekani resided, we then calculated all the votes and found out that we had really won a seat in the Central SRC. Fighters celebrated like there was no tomorrow, we had a small braai immediately. Winning a Central SRC seat meant that we had achieved our goal, basically to us we had won elections in our own right, we knew that the seat will mean that no organisation had majority to EFFSC CPUT Thank You Poster govern therefore they both needed us. That seat made history as it was the FIRST time ever in CPUT history that Central SRC was divided into 3 organisations, it was also the FIRST SRC seat in the history of EFFSC CPUT. This was the return of #FeesMustFall and the second When we arrived in Bellville, we went to attend the wave of #PrinsMustFall and the call of Disciplinary hearing of Sapho "Propaganda" Mahilili who was in the forefront of the 2015 and #BringBackOurCadres who were suspended during the #FeesMustFall was suspended. The revolution then got momentum and protests of last year. Comrades of PASMA and EFFSC had the other campuses and institutions joined in. The leaders planned this before elections but the agenda was to first demanded a University Assembly where all stakeholders remove from power and allow elections to sit SASCO including Council were going to be invited and all then after we attack. Everything went according to plan matters of the university were going to be discussed and but when it came to the day of action PASMA was iron out, as usual the arrogant Management instead nowhere to be found, this was a real test for the EFFSC, all deployed private security and as usual our buildings fighters were there in their numbers the campus was red started burning down. There were arson attacks in all and we were left with no choice but to shutdown the campuses and eventually the Management succumbed and agreed to do the Assembly. The Assembly was on campus on our own and then move the masses to the 20th of October 2016 and is available on YouTube. Bellville campus. This was our FIRST solo shutdown in Our revolutionary Chairman Songeze interjected the history. Leaders of all the NMJ Student moving to Piazza (FeesMustFall, 26 October 2016) institutions gathered and came to the resolution of marching to the Parliament. Fighters had a night vigil at South Point NMJ Residence the night before the march. We educated one another on the importance of Free Education whilst others were building a coffin with Blade Nzimandes face the Minister of Higher Education. All campuses and institutions came in numbers and we Fighter Yolanda and Fighter Anathi (FeesMustFall, 26 October 2016) marched peacefully, after delivering the memorandum the coffin we built was burnt and thrown to the police who then responded with violence and all hell broke loose, rubber bullets and stun grenades were the order of the day, students spread into the CBD and caused Chaos , shops were looted and some were arrested including one of our own Yanga Sikolo who was later released.

Gcobisa Mvinjelwa was a loyal and dedicated force of the movement. She is one of the few females who joined the EFFSC when it was unfashionable to do so, after joining she dedicated her time in ensuring that the branch recruited more females and that it also gives them the space to express themselves and lead also. At this time the organisation was still trying to find its feet, it only had 5 females and was proving to be relevant only to the male students as per the recruitment statistics. Patriarchy was also the order of the day in the entire spectrum of CPUT politics it was not fashionable for women to lead more especially for a young organisation like the EFFSC but Cadre Gcobisa was having none of it, she remained resolute that there can never be a revolution without women she contested the space and was very radical in her approach, her view was that the EFFSC needed transformation, it needed to do away with PASMA and SASCO tendencies of only using women as cheerleaders, her views radically penetrated the small membership of the EFFSC and eventually found expression, she was then elected the FIRST female Chairperson in the history of EFFSC CPUT and the rest is history.

Salute and respect to the First Female Chairperson - the transformer. H O W & W H E N ?

This year was declared as the #YearOfBranches by the All that was done, EFFSC District 6 was given an office on national leadership of the EFF and indeed it was, This is the 20th of February 2017, room 4.7 which was the the year the branch was transformed. The year 2016 smallest office compared to what other structure had and created stability, we had managed to mobilize 50+1 was always mocked by small minds calling it a toilet, but members to formally launch the branch and grew ironically it was the cleanest, most visited and produced stronger towards the end of year which sent a clear big thinkers with big ideas. Ground forces ended up message to our opposition. Our performance in the nicknaming the branch "Engine 4.7" because that is previous SRC elections was a clear depiction that the were strategies were constructed and where EFFSC was going to govern CPUT soon. After we got one administration was kept. Chairman Songeze used to seat in the Central SRC a decision to do a coalition with emphasize that the EFFSC was a program orientated PASMA was taken but then PASMA Bellville sold out in organisation meaning that we should spend all of our the last minutes and opted to go with SASCO claiming time on the ground initiating programs therefore a big that they are the better devils, but then things went sour office was not a necessity, an office is not a chill zone but as the SG of CSRC deployed by SASCO was pulling aside a place of administration an engine. The year 2017 was a and going against everything the President was saying. very short year in terms of politics, it was filled with PASMA Bellville humbled itself and came back to the protests that even led to SRC elections being postponed. EFFSC to apologize and asked that we go back to our Since the CSRC was divided and busy with squabbles and arrangement of having a coalition. Understanding that in the District 6 LSRC led by PASMA was weak the EFFSC politics there are no permanent enemies and friends and used that to their advantage and took centre stage. besides we had nothing to loose, we agreed but had Having an office meant that we now had the ability to conditions of our own. The conditions we were that we hold late night meetings, we would sit there after classes jointly sign a legally binding document that will confirm and strategize on how to overcome our opposition, it also that once we form a coalition the manifesto of the EFFSC made it easier to implement programs because we were will be implemented using the resources of the CSRC now reachable to students and had a central point where we can meet at any given time of the day. and that PASMA LSRC provides us with an office . C O N T I N U E S . . .

The programs objective was to show students that we could deliver even without being in power, it was to depict that one doesn't need to be in power to make change as long as one has the political will anything is achievable. This program ended up being our signature program, opposition females would even come to collect thinking that we would chase them away so they can go lambast on public platforms, but we allowed them because we understood that menstruation like hunger knows no political badge. This program was greatly appreciated by the students, it also meant that our office was frequently visited and we would ensure that whenever a female comes to Fighter Coffee & Fighter Sikolo cleaning the office upon receiving collect a pad we would sit them down and make lStudent Centre, 20 February 2017) them understand the organisations and its objectives, After the office was cleaned and the organisation was many would end up signing membership forms. This now physically reachable we hit the ground running. program was very vital for the EFFSC because at the Our digital presence was also improved we became time the organisation was finding it difficult to find the first political branch to have its own website. As expression in the female student populace. The Chairman Songeze had said that this year was the program managed to appeal to the female student year of Service Delivery, the EFFSC did a ground populace and the mere fact that our opposition only breaking program. The branch leadership collected spoke about Free Sanitary pads as a political slogan donations from all its members then distributed FREE and never really did anything practical for all the years Sanitary pads to all needy female students. This is the of their existence gave us a boost and attention. Today first time such a program had been done in the history as we speak the branch membership database has of CPUT politics, the program run through out the 80% females and has produced many female entire head and was spearheaded by Yolanda Mdawe revolutionaries ever since this program. the Secretary of the branch of that time. The second BSA came and Fighter Gcobisa Mvinjelwa not a valid reason to deny students a place to sleep, emerged uncontested. This was the beginning of an the Dean agreed to place those students but era of transformation. This is when women were requested that they sign a memorandum of starting to infiltrate the man dominated political agreement accepting the dire conditions of the rooms. space. Fighter Gcobisa infiltrated the space when it Queens like Lihle Monki, Sinzo Dyantyi, Anelisa was unfashionable and was very unapologetic that Ngojoba and the revolutionary former LSRC women needed to be given the platform to lead. Secretary Sinoxolo Sikina were all part of that group Gcobisa paved the way for all the other females in the and immediately joined the organisation afterwards. branch she was the first ever woman Chairperson in All of this was done in the presence of the LSRC led by the history of EFFSC CPUT. Although the year 2017 PASMA, their lack of understanding of governance was very short merely because it was a politically busy and their power opened loopholes and allowed us to year, we had the first EFFSC Provincial Assembly at find expression in those corridors of management. our shores and after the 2nd NSA then there was a huge wave of protests at CPUT that dragged until the year end. Gcobisa maintained the principles of the branch, keeping it program orientated. Under her leadership the Free Sanitary Pads program continued and was maintained very well. The branch then turned its attention to capturing first years, the first point of departure was the residence struggle. The first victory championed was the CityEdge19, the EFFSC advocated for the placement of 19 Female students that were stranded and were first years. The EFFSC pressured the Dean of Students to open the H Block of City Edge which was unused because a part of it was CityEdge19 signing their green forms and damaged, we argued that having damaged plugs was memorandum of agreement (City Edge, May 2017) P R O G R A M S

The Free Sanitary Pads program was maintained through out the year, the mighty EFFSC delivered even when it was not in power. Fighter Gcobisa the chairperson would Fighters & Students occupying Res make sure that members donate every month more department (5 May 2017, Res March) especially BSCT members and those who were using NSFAS, she would make you account for not donating. After the placement of the CityEdge19 the residence crisis became worse and leadership resolved that a revolutionary visit to the Residence Department was needed. We once again called our sister branches to come assisted us. On the 5th of March 2017 the EFFSC recorded its second march in history, we went to Chairperson Gcobisa addressing the CPUT masses (5 May 2017, Res March) occupy the residence department and submitted a memorandum to the Deans office. The Provincial Assembly of the EFFSC Western Cape was outside to consult the branches. The mandate was clear on the 10th of June 2017 at the University of Cape that we dont allow the voting of credentials to proceed and we expose all bogus delegates Town on a very cold and rainy day. The EFFSC CPUT had University of branch joined our caucus and confessed a night vigil at St. Peters residence the day before. Since Stellenbosh that they never launched their branch because they did the delegates from the District 6 Branch decided to sellout we had to restructure our slate, we decided to not have the numbers in fact they were less than 20. They confessed that the cabal which was opposing us deploy fighter Nolwethu Busakwe to contest the launched them bogusely and all their delegates were position of Secretary and fighter Likhaya "Coffee" bogus. This confirmed what we already knew and caused Mqukuse the chairperson seat although he was not a comrades to be distorted with rage. Our delegates went delegate our deployees were given a mandate to back inside and again opposed the voting for credentials nominate him using a letter. The day started and the but the presiding officers seemed to be siding with the comrades moved to UCT Upper Campus, got there and counter cabal and kept on persisting. It became worse the conferenece vibe begun as usual, all delegates and when they brought in thugs which carried guns to deal friends of delegates gathered outside the venue and with us, comrades who were outside became furious and begun to sing revolutionary songs, CPUT as usual was the started to cause chaos and vandalised the building. We majority and attracted many other delegates to come were then chased with guns by these thugs and we split sing along, this made the other slate to panic. The as comrades were running for cover. The assembly was delegates went inside and the Assemble begun, there then paused for a few minutes then it continued up until was an unrest immediately when the presiding officer late in the evening. We later regrouped as comrades and wanted the house to vote for credentials. CPUT delegates told all our delegates to come out of that hijacked and argued and disagreed citing that voting for credentials bogus assembly. We then walked in the rainy weather to will mean people who are not even members of the police station to open a case and after we organisation can mushroom as delegates. At that time convened and wrote to the CSCT. UNISA Parow already had a bogus delegate inside the Assembly. Our delegates then decided to come C O N T I N U E S . . .

The CSCT failed to deal with the case and we elevated Since Western Cape branches were divided we remained and wrote to the Deputy President of the EFF but still united as CPUT and gave all our delegates a mandate nothing happened. From that moment onwards the that they must ensure that Phiwaba Madokwe does not EFFSC CPUT relationship got strengthened. What emerge once again. The NSA sat on the 17th - 18th of transpired in the assembly was a clear depiction that the June 2017 at VUT and comrades did exactly that, when EFF/SC was slowly but surely adopting ANC politics, they got there they joined other caucuses and fulfilled the fighters proved that careerism was an existing element mandate, President Peter Keetse was delivered. After the within the movement people would even go to an extent June holidays ended there was a protest on campus that of killing just for a mere position. Imagine bringing guns dragged and resulted to the postponement of the SRC to an assembly of students. This was also a wake up call electons and that was the end of 2017. and a reminder to fighters that we are in politics and not church therefore being a cry baby will not assist us, we then vowed that we would make the ground very unstable and unfavorable for the newly emerged PSCT, We knew that CPUT was the center of politics in the Western Cape therefore without its support the PSCT would be in effective plus the fact that ,most of the branches in the Western Cape were bogus it meant the PSCT was leading ghosts. We went back to the ground and kept our vow, the PSCT became useless as predicted they failed to even do a single political program for the Province even failed to unite all branches. The NSA was approaching and branches were divided Western Cape EFFSC CPUT after being chased with guns (EFFSC Western Cape PSA, UCT, 10 June 2017) and the SG of the EFFSC Phiwaba Madokwe who was part of the other cabal was running for second term. # O U T S O U R C I N G M U S T F A L L

The return from June holidays came with a lot of unrest time around. All workers were removed from their posts on campus. The Chairperson of the LSRC Ayakha and mobilized as we marched to the office of the VC. the Magxothwa got suspended and the EFFSC was in full protest continued throughout which led to SRC elections support of his return from suspension. EFFSC and PASMA being postponed. The 4 suspended students were shutdown the campus and called for the return of reinstated once again and the struggle of the workers Ayakha, the VC came down eventually after a few days of continued up until the year 2018. The branch deployed the shutdown and reinstated Ayakha. The protests Siviwe Shiyeni to represent the organisation in all however continued and there was a huge division #OutsouringMutFall related matters. Fighter Siviwe has amongst structures, SASCO as usual chose the side of been with the workers struggle ever since then till this management even went to a point of initiating a day. He led them to the signing of their final contracts campaign was against the strike, they called it and won them a court case that enforced CPUT to back #SaveOurInstitution. The liberal and sellout behavior of pay them. Today he still carries the principles of the SASCO led to tensions rising and things became personal EFFSC as leads a revolutionary Union called NIWU that as Ayakha once again and 3 other comrades got has the majority of CPUT workers affiliated to it. suspended this led to many SASCO comrades being physically attacked particularly those who stayed at NMJ Residence. Things heated up, the room of the SG of the CSRC Mbaliyezwe who was a SASCO deployee got vandalised. Mbaliyezwe was at the center of the selloutism of SASCO. PASMA and EFFSC leaders came to a conclusion that the struggle of Outsourcing must be revisted since the workers have not signed their contracts even though Council approved Insourcing during the 2015 #FeesMustFall and #OutsourcingMustFall movement. Comrades resolved that the struggle of outsourcing must be re-engineered this...... Workers & student leaders addressing the VC ( Bellville Admin Building,October,2017) Rundown

Who? How & When? The Wrath Programs SRC Elections The First SRC THE WRATH T H E C H R O N I C L E S O F S I P H O M O K O E N A W H O ?

Sipho Mokoena was a staunch groundist of the movement, one of the cadres who joined the movement when it was unfashionable to do so, he served in all BSCTs prior to his election. His philosophy was that no organisation can conquer any revolution without administrative discipline, the organisation started to then shift to creating a strong online presence and begun to enhance its administration. He also believed that for the organisation to find expression within the masses and remain relevant it needed to be program orientated and visible at all times hence fighters were commonly known for wearing their regalia every day. He also had a strong believe that all fighters should have the capacity to articulate and defend the position of the movement at all times without any assistance hence he initiated the first ever EFFSC CPUT leadership camp during the June holiday where there was a political lecture, its objective was to politically equip fighters and help them plan for the upcoming elections whilst the opposition was still sleeping. He was also well known for dealing with opposition, to him opposition was not something you sleep with he believed that the organisation needed to minimize the effectiveness of the opposition in order to strengthen its own position and remain relevant to the masses, he radically implemented this hence today the EFFSC has no competition on campus and remains the only visible and relevant student formation.

Salute and respect to the First Chairperson to deliver SRC elections - the uPhephela Captain. H O W & W H E N ?

This is the year that will probably go down into the history every student that needed assistance went straight to the books as the year where the EFFSC showed its strength gazebo and fighters were there in numbers and full and potential accross the country. The EFFSC won regalia. When you stepped into campus the first thing you elections in 85% of the country's institutions of higher saw was EFFSC members and posters. Even when learning. At CPUT we started on high note, the branch at opposition later tried to catch up, it was too late the this time was transformed and very stable. On the other EFFSC had proven to be the only hope for the masses hand since there were no SRC elections the previous year and had captured all students from first years to returning it meant that the PASMA led LSRC had their term students. extended, since they were weak and their Chairperson Ayakha was still suspended they were no where to be seen and student governance was basically on auto pilot. The EFFSC took advantage of the leadership vacuum and provided direction to the masses and we hit the ground running. The past two years were all about learning and building the branch this year it was all about application, it was now time for the EFFSC to rise and apply all the knowledge it has gained in the past two years. We learned that elections are won at the beginning of the year and therefore ensured that we had a run a strong and effective #Sizofundangenkani campaign. We painted the campus red with posters and placed a red EFF Gazebo outside the student centre, we also created a strong social media presence, returning students and EFFSC Help desk/Gazebo (Student Centre, January 2018) walkins came to campus already knowing that the EFFSC was there to assist. Opposition as usual was no where to be seen, the EFFSC gazebo was the centre of everything, C O N T I N U E S . . . some came from outside provinces and had came with their parents and luggage and some were accepted for residence also. When this came to the attention of the EFFSC, the organisation took centre stage since there was no SRC. We sent a strong delegation to bombard the Faculty Office of Commerce, the delegation of Sipho Mokoena, Neo Mongale and Yanga Sikolo remained resolute that no student was going to be turned away, in fact as the slogan of the EFFSC articulates that #Sizofundangenkani fighters enforced CPUT to create extra weekend classes and hire more lectures to ensure that these students were accommodated. Fighters assisting walk-ins with applying (Student Centre, CPUT as usual responded with arrogance and fighters January 2018) as revolutionaries wasted no time and went to the It was clear from day one that the EFFSC was on its ground and called a mass meeting with all those own level and opposition had no chance. The EFFSC students. A total of 200+ students showed up and further stamped its authority as they championed the fighters marched with them to the Faculty Deans struggle of students who could not register but were office. The Dean had no choice but to set up a meeting accepted. CPUT as usual did an administratiojm with the EFFSC. Fighter Olona was then tasked to set blunder and mistakenly accepted more students then up a whatsapp group with all these students share than the maximum capacity in the Marketing and updates with them. CPUT kept on fustrating us and Public Administration courses. They then refused to dragged the process but comrades remained resolute acknowlege the mistake and account but instead and unshaken, fighters forcelly accommodated those refused for those students to register and chased them that needed residence at Hannover Residence where away as if it was their mistake bear in mind some of we were all camping. The matter was escalated to the those students had canceled other institutions which office of the VC and eventually CPUT gave in and also accepted them, and had decided to choose agreed to allow ...... CPUT, C O N T I N U E S . . . them to register. We asked all of them to each leave Ground forces accross CPUT met and resolved that all the group after being able to register as the process BSCTs this year must comprise of forces who are was done in batches. All of them managed to experienced as this was our last chance to win successfully register and left the group prasing thanks elections, it was basically do or die. At District 6 Sipho to the organisation. Fighters remained with the few Mokoena was the obvious candidate to take over as that still faced hiccups but eventually they registerd he was part of the founding BSCT and the second one, also. This was the greatest victory the EFFSC had ever was there since day one of the building of the recorded by then, we had managed to register close to movement and was a dedicated ground force that 300 students who had no where to go and no one to knew the organisation in and out. The BSA came and turn to about half of those students signed went, Sipho Mokoena emerged as the Chairman and membership forms and joined the organosation and all experienced fighters contested and emerged also. right there and there we knew we had won elections. Fighter Mokoena as the newly elected chair declared The branch rapidly grew after that and the in his closing speech that hes main objective is to organisation became more relevant on campus and deliver the organisation to its first SRC elections victory started to gain the trust of students and the respect and if that doesnt happen him and the entire BSCT from management, After that another struggle came, must be deemed as failures, from then onwards there which was the one of residence as usual. As the EFFSC was no turning back, the organisation went on the kept on forcelly accommodating students at Hannover ground full force even though some were left bitter the number seemed to be increasing drastically, A after the assembly but there was no time to nurse resolution was taken that structures should be feelings and cry babies. At Bellville camous Fighter approached and a res revolution should be started Andile "Naira" Sigwiji took over and Malukhanye that was done as planned and led to the opening of Gogo claimed Mowbray campus. The 3 CPUT South Point Orchards Residence. The organisation at chairpersons understood that the power of the EFFSC this time had momentum and was moving at fast CPUT lies within the central relationship, from then pace. It became clear that this was the year, if we fail onwards comrades ensured that all branches became to win elections this year then we would never again program orientated and all worked together as a unit. get another opportunity of this nature. If one branch had a program the others would come support, P R O G R A M S

As usual the branch continued with its signature program After that the branch initiated a program that offered of distributing FREE sanitary towels and maintained it FREE Accounting tutorial classes for all students that were through out the year. The first revolutionary program struggling with accounting and resided at NMJ done was the #SouthPointRevolution. South Point Residence. According to the res statistics at that time the management was failing to deliver service, students went majority of students who were doing Accountancy were weeks without water, wifi and many other basic essential residing at South Point NMJ and many of them were services there was also an increasing rate of break-ins, struggling with the course. Therefore the branch tasked every week an average of 3 break-ins were recorderd and fighter Ntakanipho "Juice" Nika and fighter Zizipho instead of South Point dealing with its security issue they Mrulekana who were both good in accounting to instead decide to further oppress students and close dedicate their time to teach others. down visitors as if its the vistors that come and steal. When students decided to voice out their fustrations and protest South Point sent out threatening SMS's claiming that having mass meetings is illegal and will lead to disciplinary measures being taken. The EFFSC was having none of it, apartheid intimidation tactics were not going to intimidate the revolutionary movemrnt. The EFFSC called for an urgent mass meeting on the 24th of April 2018, even though many students feared to come down, the EFFSC went floor to floor to collect them and told them not to fear students regained their confidence and came down in numbers although South Point security manager came down and took pictures, students remained unshaken. A week after the shutdown South Point management came down and called for a house FREE Accounting Tutorial classes poster (April 2018) meeting to address all the issues that were rasied. C O N T I N U E S . . .

Undersatnding that we are in an instititution of higher our Facebook page has 5000 likes and followers yet we learning which is full of young people and where are only 4 years old, this is triple the number our technology and social media were the main Opposition has but they have been here for more than a communicating methods effective, the branch saw it decade. Our strong visibilty worked for us to a point that it imperative to create a strong social media presence. A completely eradicated the opposition from the masses campaign of posting male fighters on Mondays and minds in particular the first years, they did not even know female fighters on Wednesdays than begun on Fridays we PASMA and SASCO existed until elections came. EFFSC would post all fighters and called it Red Friday. It is also became the only known organisation on camous, every no secret that the EFFSC District 6 is blessed with good struggle of students was achieved by us, even the little looking comrades from males to females, the constant ones of dealing with arrogant lecturers the EFFSC was posting of these beautiful forces every week played a forever there. The EFFSC CPUT then fought the struggle significant role in the minds of the masses, the of students being requested to pay when staying for June organisation became visible, attractive and relevant. The holidays. The momentum was high and had to be chairman was a multimedia student therefore he maintained, the District 6 branch led by cadre Mokoena understood very well the power and strategies of initiated the first ever EFFSC CPUT leadership camp, marketing. A mandate was then released to fighters that where all campuses were invited to spend 3 days in a regalia has to be worn everyday on campous and at that camp to plan, strategise and scrutinize ourselves whilst time the branch did not have any tshirts because of our oppostion was still sleeping. The camp begun on the dedication and love of the organisation fighters bought 13th of July and ended on the 15th of July. This was a their own regalia. The organisation ensured that RED was platform where fighters were politiocally trained and all you see both on the ground and social media our taught about the manifesto of the EFFSC CPUT and how visibilty strategy was on par. We ensured that our social to defend and articulate it. There was also a political media platforms remain active and post daily, all our lecture from two gurest speakers fighter Mandisi Gladile coommuniques and posters were well designed and and fighter KG who equipped fighters with ideological attractive. It is no coincidence that today... ammunition,. C O N T I N U E S . . .

Branch status qous were also scrutinized and each Chairperson was criticized. The camp was self funded, each branch had to contribute financially. Fighters only had 4 rooms, 2 at Hannover and 2 at Sadenburg but Chairman Mokoena doing welcoming comrades compromised and managed to accommodate at the Camp (Distric 6 ,13 July 2018) one another. The camps main objective was to prepare us for the upcoming elections, strategies were shared and resolutions were made. The branch also deployed fighters to the SRC and had a chance to grill and scrutinize all deployees. The camp proved to be effective becuaes when campus resumed from the June holidays the EFFSC came back revamped and was an unstopable Fighters sleeping during the camp machine, A schedule of programs to be implemented (Hannover Residence ,13 July 2018) was drafted at the camp and was to be implemented as soon as we return. The branch under the stewardship of Fighter Mokoena and the Queen mother Nakhane Nani who was the engine radically implemented the schedule,, the camp ended on the 15th of July 2018 and campus resumed the day after, a week later when everyone was back the EFFSC grabbed the struggle of NSFAS by its throat. The leadership called for an urgent mass meeting Chairman addressing at the urgent on the 26th of July inviting all those with NSFAS issues. NSFAS mass meeting (Student Centre , 26 July 2018) Students came out in their numbers and we marched to the Financial Aid offices to demand answers, we then shutdown those offices and the staff ran away. C O N T I N U E S . . .

After the FAO staff decided to run away we marched to everytime meant that some were recieving their the Deans office and the Dean requested that the allowances which was good news to us. The leadership Financial Aid staff meet with us even though we were not then cretaed a relationship with the FAO and opened a SRC. The Dean could see that we had captured the channel to make it easier to asssit students. Since NSFAS masses and therefore had power of the ground. The issues are broad some have food allowances issues, some Financial Aid agreed to meet with a delegation from the its appeals, some its travel allowanves etc. therefore EFFSC. The leadership then called another mass leadership created WhatsApp groups for each issue and meetings before the meeting to address and give update shared the links to the public for others to join, then to the masses. The meeting sat and was very progressive, comrades were depolyed there to assist those students as the meeting concluded that travel allowances will be per their issue. At this time the ground completely released with immediate effect along with allowances of belonged to the EFFSC, SRC elections were just going to all those who appealed. Ground breaking resolutions be a formality otherwise we were already recognised as were then taken from that momemt students were now the SRC. going to receive R500 cash backs and Fundi Card was made a bit more flexible by adding more stores like Ackermans and Hungry Lion and students were now permitted to buy electronical equipment such as laptops and earphones. Oppostion tried to claim these victories but it was too late because the masses knew who was with them since day one. The EFFSC even shared the minutes of all the meetings set with FAO so masses could see that it was us who championed these things. As soon as these resolutions were announced the EFFSC went back to the ground and called another mass meeting to give feedback, the response from the masses was very EFFSC leadership giving feedback to masses ( Student Centre, 14 August 2018) possitive the fact that we were seeing knew faces... C O N T I N U E S . . .

The branch leadership kept the momentum going at this time everything was about the EFFSC, the sister branches were also moving with programs. Social Media platforms were occupied with EFFSC programs day-in-day-out. Meal-A-Day Poster There was just no space for opposition to breath. The (District 6 ,August 2018) District 6 continued to release its wrath and completely eradicated its oppsoituion when it implemented the Meal-A-Day program. The leadership without any SRC budget any funding mobilised resources from branch members and implemented the first ever Meal-A-Day program done by a politocal structure in the history of CPUT. The program was ofcourse a pilot project, its objective was to mainly show students that if we are capable to do such without any funding and power Students queing to get served imagine if we would have. Students each received a (Piazza , 22 August 2018) combo consisting of a Hot-dog / Vetkoek + a pack of Nik Naks + a fruit. An amount of +-1300 students were catered for. When the EFFSC first spoke about the possibilities of a Meal-A-Day on campus it was met with insults and was ridiculed by the opposition, it was therefore impertitive for us to depict to the masses that it was possible the problem is having leadership without a vision and a Leadership serving students political will. After that program the EFFSC occupied the (Piazza , 22 August 2018) ground and social media and emphasized with pictures of the program emphasizing and conscientiousing the masses that such is possible but only with credible leadership with a vision. C O N T I N U E S . . .

Opposition was so intimidated that they even broke into our office and stole our documents, sanitary pads and then vandilised. That did not intimidate us not even a little it in fact proved that they were shaken and nervous. We exposed their deeds to the masses and that further proved to the masses that indeed the EFFSC was the only hope. PASMA which was the governing opposition at that time was had a group within them that was well known for anarchy and theft. It all started during the strikes but it later became a habit and escalated, they now targeted students countlessly stealing positions of students such as laptops and microwaves. They became popular and became the face of PASMA. The EFFSC then capitalised on that and associated PASMA with all of their sinister deeds. PASMA slowly loosed relevance on the ground and were now viewed as criminals which was not a lie. It was no secret that its them who were behind the break- in. From that moment onwards the relationship between PASMA and the EFFSC ended for good. The EFFSC then went in hard and increased the pressure . PASMA could not stomach the fact that they had a weak LSRC and a weak CSRC President who was just a stooge that could not utilise his powers. The EFFSC sat in mangement meetings even though we were not SRC, the weakness of EFFSC Office vandalised (August 2018) PASMA led SRC opened a serious vacuum and we capitalised. C O N T I N U E S . . .

It was clear that the EFFSC was already in power it was just a matter of formalities. The Uphephela generation came hard on opposition and they just did not expect the EFFSC to grow this soon. No political party has been this Chairman Naira & Chairman Mokoena active on the ground in the history of CPUT, EFFSC was articulating the Students Manifesto not only active and visible but it was doing (Bellville , 6 September 2018) developmental programs and bringing change. The EFFSC was radically changing the politoical landscape of CPUT and was not asking for permission from anyone, the time of attracting students using singing, Tshirsts and bashes was over the EFFSC put an end to that nonsensical and ideological bankrupt culture. The mighty Student Command was bringing a revolution to the shores of CPUT and no one was ready for it. As we were weeks away from our destiny, the SRC elections were near. The capable and radical Chairmain of Bellville branch Andisile "Naira" Sigwiji hosted a night vigil of EFFSC CPUT Central branches. The leadership saw it necessary and important that all branches needed to consolidate before the SRC elections. All branches came in their numbers, that was probably the most packed Night Vigil in the history of Student Politics. Fighters had 6 to 6 of intellectual engagements and dissected the Manifesto of the Students to equip and prepare fighters. The program was very succesful and made a huge statement. The day finally came, the second elections for the District The anxiety was killing comrades outside the counting 6 Branch. The ground was furtile and belonged to the venue. Counting of votes ended at 5AM on the 29th of EFFSC, we knew that we had won and elections were just September 2018 and the EFFSC was declared victorious a formality but nerves were all over the camp, the we had won 100% and completely annihilated opposition Chairperson even worrilngy lost a huge amount of weight ,Uphephela had landed. Many comrades including the and got extremely sick because of stress. We knew that it Chairman of Ditsrict 6 shed a tear but it was all becasue of was do or die for the EFFSC, comrades had sacrificed joy, it was a very joyous moment, all the hard work from their academics, relationships and personal lives to ensure the inception had paid its dividends. This motivated the victory anything besides that was going to cause severe other sister branches that victory was certain and stress and mental breakdowns. The elections were set to intimidated opposition. After that victory we immediately be on the 27th & 28th of September 2018 but as usual marched to all Residences of Mowbray to give thanks to they got postponed to the 1st and 2nd of October due the masses. political squabbles and the incompetency of the appointed IEC company but an agreement was made that the small campuses which are Mowbray, Athlone and Wellington can still continue have theirs on the initial dates the 27th & 27th of September. The District 6 branch went to Mowbray to go asssist. The elections proceeded at Mowbray which was a known stronghold of SASCO, they have been incharge there for 2 decades and had no competion, well it was clear that they only dominated because they were not competing with the best, PASMA tried to dethrone them for years but dismally failed but here came the mighty EFFSC a 3 year Fighters doing res to res immediately after Mowbray victory (29 September 2018) old movement at that time came and destablized everything. C O N T I N U E S . . .

The res visits of District 6 then begun as strategic as we the first res visits and waited until the last visit which was are we allowed opposition to go to all the residences first, at NMJ. The first visits were on the 19th of September they still failed to adapt and used their old tactics of going 2018 at South Point Plein, City Edge and EWR the to a res sing outside, chant popular slogans and then following day we went to Toplin and Hannover. The leave. The response from the masses on social media after leadership was very strategic, we went to those residences the opposition had visited residences gave us more hope, with a small group of fighters even though we had students were asking "Where were you?" this was a masses, we wanted to engage the masses just like we did question popularized by fighters during campaigning to in 2016, nothing defeats one on one engagements with decampaign opposition and was later adopted by the masses and allow them to ask you questions. The masses, opposition thought they could disappear for the opposition ridiculed us on Facebook saying we dont have rest of the year and mushroom during elections sell numbers we are only visible on Facebook and we kept students dreams. This year things were different, the quiet and resolute. At this time the EFFSC was winning EFFSC had proved to be the only hope of the masses institutions across the country, the Uphephela gwijo was since the beginning of the year and this time students everywhere on social media and this initimdaed had an alternative. In the previous years prior the opposition and played a huge role psychologically in existence of the EFFSC students only had two options convincing the masses that indeed EFFSC was the last even when fed up with them you had no choice but to hope. vote thats why they were so relaxed Students Command changed the political landscape and opposition was failing to adapt till this day. There was no amount of singing from PASMA and no amount of Tshirts from SASCO that was going to convince the masses, students wanted radical and developmemtal change and the EFFSC was bringing it to the table. The Provincial leadership donated 120 EFF Tshirsts and the branch leadership was strategic and did not release them during.. Fighters going to do res visit at South Point Plein (District 6,19 September 2018) C O N T I N U E S . . .

Then came the last res visit which was to South Point NMJ residence which is the biggest residence at CPUT. We went there after the oppososion, at this time it was clear that the EFFSC has annihilated the oppostion, tables had turned compared to 2016 SASCO was just a small group of 10 poeple they had lost members and numbers they were what we were in 2016. PASMA on the other side was full of professional students comrades who have been year for years and there were no young ones in fact they were so weak they had to bring back Ayakha their former Leadership addressing Toplin Residence students (Toplin,20 LSRC Chairperson to address masses yet they had September 2018) candidates, this was a clear indication that they had no hope in their own candidates. The leadership released the Tshirsts received from the PSCT and we went hard, as the qoute says in isiZulu "isinamuva liyabukwa" meaning whats done last get the most attention. The EFFSC had so much masses that day opposition could not even stomach it, when we entered NMJ everyone went out and we went floor to floor chanting Uphephela. NMJ was completely red there was no space for other colours and that was the day Mowbray won their elections. It was clear from that moment onwards that Uphephela was going to land whether people like it or not. The video of NMJ is available on our Facebook page to witness what Leadership addressing Hannover Residence students (Hannover,19 September 2018) transpired if you were not there. This year just like we had a strong BSCT we also deployed trusted cadres to the counting venue, the founding strong and credible comrades to the SRC. It was very Chairman Songeze Phahlindlela who was experienced important for the EFFSC to have a strong SRC because was among them and Nakhane Nani the Secretary , this was their only chance to prove themselves therefore Busisiwe "Mama Sgebengu" Dana, Kultwano "Beast" we needed people who are ground forces and have been Dhlodhlo and Likhaya "Coffee" Mqukuse just to around and are experienced in dealing with mention a few. Fighters slept on campus for the rest of management. Fortunately for us since we promote those 7 days guarding the votes because we knew academic excellence many fighters met the 60% average opposition would try to sabotage them during the night. required to contest and that meant we had enough strong candidate unlike 2016. Fortunately for us once more our candidates were very popular among the masses and that made campaigning very easy. The elections came and voting proceeded. After that it was time for counting of votes, all fighters including Mowbray cadres were outside Commerce building singing trying to ease the nerves. Right there and there we knew the time had come for us to meet our destiny. When counting proceeded it was all EFFSC, EFFSC, EFFSC fighters were leading and opening a huge gap. When opposition realised that power had gone they became bitter and tried to collapse the counting process, it became worse when Bellville announced that the mighty EFFSC had won 100% oppostion just could not stomach it and made things worse as they delayed the process of for 7 days. We remained calm as fighters because we knew we deployed Fighters sleeping at the SRC Offices (District 6, 7 October 2018) C O N T I N U E S . . .

Eventually the bitter opposition gave in and the EFFSC The EFFSC as strategic as it is decided to stay behind and District 6 was declared winners on the 11th of October not go home after the final exams. The task team and all 2018 with record breaking figures opening a gap of 500 SRC members and elects remained behind and had an votes between us and number 2, The central unity of the SPW ( Strategic Planning Week) to plan for next which EFFSC CPUT proved pivotal because the EFFSC became was something our opposition was failing to do when in the FIRST organisation in the history of CPUT to win all power, comrades camped at City Edge Residence and the major campuses at the same time. No other only went home on the 18th of December 2018. The organisation had won Bellville, District 6 and Mowbray opposition then fustrated the process of constituting the at the same. The District 6 margins also meant that CSRC but eventually they succomed after the Dean of EFFSC was going to have 4/8 CSRC seats yet we only exist Students intervened. Sipho Mokoena and Sihle Ngxabi in 3/5 campuses here at CPUT, that was a record on its were then declared the FIRST ever CPUT CSRC President own. It was sad that the branch could not celebrate its and Secretary General deployed by the EFFSC. They victory because final exams were a week away, the were officially innaugurated on the 13th of December bitterness of the opposition had robbed us that 2018. oppostunity. Chairman Sipho Mokoena had deliverd and had to step down because he was an elect of the CSRC. The entire BSCT was disbanded because many forces who were in it had emerged as SRC members a task team to lead us forward was appointed and Maphelo Mtshizana was elcted as the Convenor and Nakhane Nani as the Coordinator. The task then resolved that the branch leadership and SRC must be combined and become one structure for coordination purposes and also not to make the SRC a counter structure they needed to know that the branch remains supreme. Fighter Andile "Aija" Salute to everyone who contributed into building this Maseti perfectly described the victory of EFFSC CPUT on thing ground up without any resources but with Facebook when he was giving praise to the Chairpersons dedication, political will and love for the African child. that deliverd the victory, he utterd that "We have Salute Fighters, the struggle continues! survived gigantic political turbulence's and gusts of resistance, however prevailed through. The way you utilized us, rather each other, your ground forces, through tactics and strategies, we are patient with you. Lest did they know that in May there was a central meeting in UWC, during June vacation, was an EFFSC camp in D6, in September was a night vigil in Bellville campus, September was a political school in Mowbray . This victory was never an incident , it was a deliberately engineered, rectified, monitored, and a maneuvered project to eradicate ooPhelasonwabe. District Six Campus 2018/19 EFFSC Led SRC Term began on a high note as we held the first ever LSRC Press Briefing in the history of CPUT on the 26 October 2019 in the history of CPUT Student Politics as we were bringing the masses closer to the leadership. Communication and transparency was an unknown thing during the tenure of the previous SRC’s. Since we claimed that once we step into to power we will re-engineer student governance and change its whole landscape. We were bringing everything new to the house, everything we were about to do had never been done before. The agenda of the Press District 6 SRC Press briefing (Piazza, 26 October 2019) Conference was to officially introduce the SRC to the masses, address the current urgent issues students were facing, share with them the plan of the EFFSC led SRC and to officially tell the management and opposition that Uphephela has landed; we have arrived! Soon after that we hit the ground running and did Residence Mass Meetings to address maintenance and crime issues faced by students. After that we dealt decisively with the Holiday accommodation matter, students of District 6 for the FIRST time ever did not pay for December holiday accommodation. This was our first victory, we achieved something the opposition has been failing to do for years. The EFFSC only did it in just 10 days in office. It was clear that we were not here to play. Soon after that 5/9 LSRC Residence visist (City Edge, 25 October 2019) members graduated since we promote academic excellence. The First SRC

Wendy Kondlo was a firm and unwavering ground force of the movement. She posssessed administration qualities and was well coordinated. She was the second women to be elected as Chairperson in the history of EFFSC CPUT. Her Journey begun as a Convenor of a task team after her predecessor Sipho Mokoena had to step down as chair as he emerged as an CSRC elective. Wendy grabbed the opportunity with both hands and was very steady in her approach as she was still learning, she eventually stepped up and lead very well, she instilled discipline and coordination within the branch and SRC. She created a platform for SRC and Branch to account on their duties every day by initiating 5pm meetings and harsh disciplinary measures. Her coordination system worked well and led to programs being swiftly implemented. After her impressive run as the Convenor of the branch she was favoured by many to be elected as the official Chairperson, she was eventually elected Chairperson in a highly contested assembly were counting had to be done twice, her being contesed by another female proved the strength of the organisation and that women were now feeling comfortable to challenge the space, the legacy of Gcobisa Mvinjelwa was living on. Wendy went on to become the first female EFFSC SRC Chairperson, the transisition from being a mandate giver to a mandate taker disturbed her and power dynamics confused her, she suprisingly went against the branch defying democratic centralism and having her own positions, but the branch remained resolute on the principle that no one is above it. It then rejected her just like it did to the founding Chairperson at some point after he went against it. The branch allowed her to become independent although it was painful to see the hardwork of organistion being thrown down the drain. It was shocking to see a former Chairperson not understand the principle of democratic centralism. The political journey of Chairperson Wendy Kondlo turned into a whole political anticlimax.

Salute and respect to the First Chairperson to lead the SRC and the First female SRC Chairperson - the Governor. H O W & W H E N ? This year it was time for the EFFSC to prove itself. change us. Students needed to see the same individuals Students gave us the power we asked for and it was time they voted into power. The mighty Student Command as to put into practice what we were preaching. The usual started with a bang. We did the same thing we have transition from being oppposition and straight into power been doing for the past years, we painted the campus red had a serious impact on branches, ground forces from all with posters and regalia. Occupied social media and branches got scattered which opened a serious vaccuum created a central point once again by placing an EFF in all branches. The SRC then became stronger than the Gazebo at the Student Centre. Since we now had branches and subsequently branches could not find bureaucratic power from Central to Local level the SRC expression in pollitical matters on the ground and was given mandate to close all ranks and ensure that no depended too much on the SRC. However the District 6 one enters management corridors unless they were SRC. branch had a clear strategy on how to consolidate the A communique was sent from the office of the CSRC branch and the SRC. The strategy was that branch President to all CPUT Departments to ensure that all leadership and SRC must be in one group and the SRC ranks were closed. The opposition needed to know who must NOT have its own group because they should have was in charge, we were never going to do the same nothing to hide from the branch, however the branch mistakes they did of allowing delegation of structures and leadership was entitled to have its own group because allowing every one to represent students yet theres a they were the upper structure. This strategy worked very legitimate democratically elected structure to do that. If well and made the branch and SRC to work parallel and one wants to have bureaucratic power and have access to be very coordinated. Everything was done as a unit and management then they must work the ground and win the EFFSC SRC was resolute that there shall be no elections. The students chose us and it was for a reason neautrality when serving, we rejected SRC uniform and therefore we shall be the only advocates in those fighters wore regalia on the ground. Ours was to maintain corridors. The opposition because of bitterness kept on the image and radical mindset that attracted students to lambasting our SRC and calling them weak because they vote for us, our constituency voted for us wearing overalls were fealing the heat, they thought we were going to and barrets therefore we were going to serve them collapse and get drunk in power but little did they know wearing the same apparel. We never allowed power to... that we were prepared to the core. C O N T I N U E S . . .

As per our agreement from the plenary we agreed that kept on increasing day by day. This led to some in order to have a smooth Walk-In Process we are to students having to sleep at the Student Centre, the arrive early in January so that we can have a clear way branch leadership and SRC slept along side the forward of dealing with walk-in applications since its students. The Dean of Students showed no sympagthy always a challenging phase for any SRC because if you and was arrogant. The branch then resolved that the fail during this time you’ll be out for the year but we SRC members must boycott the Welcoming Day managed to succeed as we had collected details of Ceremony and mobilizse all students without students who were walk-in applicants so that we residence and go collapse the Ceremony where the could be able to send out messages to notify the entire management and parents will be present. It applicants about the opening of late applications made no sense for CPUT to do a Welcoming through the use of the Dean of students office. We Ceremony whilst hundreds of its students were still also coordinated the Academic and Residence stranded on the shores without residence. Appeals during the same period of January and February as we had to ensure we had all students appealing back to the system and leave none excluded. The Residence crisis is a national predicament and therefore obviously never ends at CPUT ,we were faced with that crisis and that led to us trying to locate a new building to accommodate students hence a strategy to do head counts at Residences was followed including the vetting of each residence to ensure space is not hidden by the residence coordinators. We even went to the extent of attempting to collapse the Welcoming Day Ceremony, students came to our offices in their numbers with their luggages seeking residence all though we tried to Fighters sleeping at the Student Centre with students (February,2019) create temporary residence for them at Catsville and Hannover but they..... C O N T I N U E S . . .

Students were mobilised on the day of the Ceremony The branch leadership and the SRC at this time were and we marched through the ceremony until we were still very coordinated and working well together. intercepted by campus security after the Ceremony Everything was done as a unit but the branch was the management went to the 6th Floor and we lacking when it came to administering its affairs. The followed them to shut down that floor, they then used Convenor was employed and therefore was not on the a back door to exit and we moved to shut down the ground more often and the Coordinator became Res Department. The following day we moblised the dysfunctional. In the first BGM of the year a resolution masses once again and marched to Bellville campus to disband the task team was taken and a new one where a ManCom meeting was sitting. The constant was elected. Wendy Kondlo was elected as the pressure led to the opening of 2 residences in Parow Convenor and Yanga Sikolo as the Coordinator. From known as Student Junctions and placing Parkhomes then onwards the branch turned on the heat on the as temporary residence for those who were stranded. ground. Fighter Wendy came with administrative Although the res crisis never really ended but as discipline and very profound coordination skills. Her people who were in power for the first time we did the task team made sure that 5pm meetings sat which best we could and students appreciated the efforts was a platform for SRC and branch leadership to hence we retained power. account and provide feedback everyday. Wendy took a steady approach as she was still learning but had the support and backing of experienced comrades. Eventually she got used to the pressure of leading a branch and SRC and she never looked back. Under her leadership D6 branch maintained its strength of being the most coordinated branch. The EFFSC led CSRC went on to champion the struglgle of Financial Exclusion even went to an extent of raisng R3 million from the ETDP SETA to try cover the debts of those handed to to debt collectors to allow them to register. For the FIRST time ever at CPUT students who were handed to debt collectors were registered without any

The SRC then advocated for the institution to support all Sports codes and give them resources and give the players intensives. For the first time under the EFFSC leadership, the CPUT VARSITY SHIELD Rugby team was presented with new apparel. Each player received a backpack containing a CPUT blazer that was embroidered with the CPUT logo. One of the key strategies in maximizing participation in sports is rewarding those who are already participating to keep them motivated and to attract others. With that being said under the EFFSC leadership for the first time the rugby players each received insentives such as free SRC President, ETDP SETA CEO, VC & MCD Director residennce and R1000 for every match won, R3500 for at the handing over of the R3m Cheque ( Bellville, March 2019) semi-finals if won and R5000 in the final if they win. The organisation as it promised in its manifesto to create a conducive environment for all by promoting extra mural activities and creating developmental programs. The organsiatuion mandated the SRC to give attention to sport and arts which are the two most critical departments after academics. Understanding that many students have abilities outside academics so it was imperative to create platforms where they can express those abilities. The position was that there also needs to be proportional consideration and allocated resources for extra mural activities to promote a balance of academic and social activities which create a desired conducive environment amongst students and staff. Thus creating an environment that caters for extra mural SRC President Sipho Mokoena and Secretary General Sihle Ngxabi prestenting the new apparel to the Captain of the Rugby Team ( February,2019) activities is important. C O N T I N U E S . . .

It is no secret that sport at CPUT was never supported by management and lack of support and adequate sport facilities led to a huge gap being created between students and having interests in sports. It is also no secret that CPUT has been yearning for leadership which has the development of students at heart, particularly in student governance. Fortunately for the student populace of CPUT leadership had changed for the betterment, under the new EFFSC led SRC strategic leadership was be provided to stimulate and accelerate the effort to maximize participation in sports and cultural activities for improved access and as well as promoting wellness and social cohesion in the student populace of CPUT. We proved ourselves right because 2019 became a very conducive and succesful year for CPUT Sports. Our support proved to be vital as the Rugby team went on to win the Varsity Shield for the first time in our history then after CPUT Netball team was crowned 2019 USSA Champions. CPUT Mens and Women Soccer teams were crowned 2019 InterVarstity champions. CPUT Table Tennis team was crowned 2019 InterVarsity champions. CPUT Enactus team was crowned national champions. CPUT won the USSA 7s Bowl Cup and CPUT Student Zozibini Tunzi was crowned Miss SA and Miss Universe. 2019 just became a progressive year at CPUT and it was no coinecidence. We had proven that CPUT has been yearning for strategic leadership who care about developing students and not only focused CPUT Teams after being crowned (2019) on doing bashes. C O N T I N U E S . . .

Although the NSFAS system had changed during our term we managed to ensure that allowances were released as early as possible just like we promised. At the end of 2018 NSFAS and the DHET announced that they were completely changing the system. They announced Fighter Xinela addressing the masses that NSFAS was going to be centralised and all (Absa Auditorium, March 2019) allowances were now going to be recieved cash. This was a very drastic change and forced CPUT to improve its allowance distribution system. Although CPUT tried to distribute allowances as early as possible they still failed to administer templates of registered students which caused a lot of delay for some student to recieve their allowances in particular traveling students ,there was also a lot of maladministration and shenanigans as usual. Media Personnel amongst the masses at the mass meeting When it came to addressing these the EFFSC and its SRC (Absa Auditorium, March 2019) were in the forefront once again and dealt with it the best way they know how to. The EFFSC believes in consulting the masses at all times as they are the mandate givers. The EFFSC District 6 branch and the LSRC called a mass meeting and media just like we used to do before we took power, we had to show students that we had maintained our radicalism and that power was never going to change us. The mass meeting was called to Students with NSFAS issues address all issues students were facing with regards to (Absa Auditorium, March 2019) NSFAS. After the mass meeting the leadership took all those matters to the Dean and Head of Finance for immediate intervention, travelling allowances and were then released afterwards. The branch maintained its momentum and remained Tensions were so high that we had to count twice for coordinated. Since the Convenor Fighter Wendy just the seat of Chairperson. Fighter Wendy Kondlo like the previous Chairperson was doing IT the brnach democratically emerged as Chairperson of the branch and SRC pages were always up to date, communiques and she grabbed the machine by both hands and were communicated in a professional manner even never looked back. Revolutionary discipline and went to the extent of creating a logo for the SRC to democratic centralism had to be the order of the day, make it look more presentable and professional. The all slates and factions had to come together and branch and SRC had a strong social media presence become one as organisational discipline teaches us and became the first SRC to have a Facebook page that its not the individual that emerges in the with 5000+ followers in a space of a few months. The assembly but the organisation. Since Wendy had SRC and branch were every where on the ground and experience of governing as she was the Convenor the social media thus making them the first SRC to be branch and SRC remained coordinated and moved reachable to the masses throughout the year. The forward swifty to implemet the Students Manifesto., District 6 SRC led by the EFFSC went on and continued to prove to the masses that they were the only hope by Opening the Library 24/7 something the oppostition has failed to do, the EFFSC achieved it in just 3 months of being in power. The branch then had to launch and Wendy Kondlo was the favourite to emerge as the Chairperson although strong opposition arised from within as some saw her as a dictator. This was to be the 4th official BSA of the branch, the first one in power. The branch had imemnsely grown that thing of mobilizing members to come to the assembly so you can meet qourum was a thing of the past. This Tumis Mfisa LSRC Chairperson, Mr Sulaiman Majal Library Manager & Yanga Sikolo Branch Coordinator confirming the was the most attended and most highly contested 24/7 opening (D6 Library, 29 March 2019) BSA in the history of EFFSC District 6. In the previous years SRC members were not known that much and see we had promised the masses that we were going to provide change so we decided to host First Year Welcome Residence Braais at all District 6 Residences, which was a way of ensuring that we mingle with our constituency for them to get to know us better as their leadership. The braai program was called Uphephela Residence Braai, it began in April 2019 and run up until the second week of May 2019. Leadership provided students with FREE food and drinks and entertainment. Fighters preparing meat at the Uphephela Res braai( City Edge The braais were facilited by the branch leadership and Residence, 26 April 2019) were procured and organised through the LSRC. The The EFFSC had kept its promise of providing change and braais were very succesful and played a very significvamt the masses were feeling and appreciating it. The Engine role in mainting the relevance of the EFFSC. 4.7 then surpised everyone from masses to oppostion to management when we announced the opening of the application process for the Uphephela Learners License program. A project many thought was impossible but because of the political will, adminstration strength and dedication forces of the EFFSC District 6 possessed the project was planned and executed with pure precision. From that moment onwards second term for the EFFSC was already guaranteed, we had proven to the masses that we were really their last hope and that strategic leadership that had the interest of students at heart was a Uphephela Res Braai Poster (April,2020) neccessity we have manage to provide. The momentum was high and had to be maintained that Two days after the hiking and a week before the June led to fighters being constantly on the ground. It was exams the EFFSC CPUT through its CSRC did another shocking to everyone even to ourselves that we have done ground breaking but hosting the first ever CPUT Gospel so much in just 4 months into power. It was clear how Concert intertwined with an Exam prayer. Well know much change we were going to bring in just a space of a Gospel artists were invited and our very own local church year, Since fighters were constantly on the ground the structures and artist. Students also recieved FREE branch decided that a more social program was needed handouts that included exam stationary and a good luck to reflect and refresh and give comrades time to focus on note. Everthing the EFFSC was doing had a "FIRST" in it, their academics, The leadership decided that the branch we were defintely bringing the change we promised. The goes hiking to distract ourselves and exercise our bodies program was well attended, in fact the hall was full to and minds. Social programs are also as critical as the capacity to a point that chairs ran out. political ones, we need to engage socially and undersatnd one another personally before we can work together in these toxic political spaces and the branch understood this very well.

The branch then launched the Meal-A-Day Program even though The Departemnt of Student Affairs tried to sabbotage us but we found means to make it happen. Our proposal only got approved in June for obvoius political reasons, therefore we then provided food for those who were remaining behind for inservice training. Shortly after the exams the EFFSC led CSRC then finanlly championed the struggle of Holiday accommodation for the FIRST time in the history of CPUT students were allowed to stay at res during the June holidays without paying a single cent. This was once again something the oppostion had failed to accomplish yet the EFFSC did it in their first year in power.

The trip was a very succesful one, fighters procured a 60 seater bus and travelled together as EFFSC CPUT. However upon arrival things turned sour as the DOR of the EFF physically attacked us and damaged our bus. Things became worse when our candidate Goba was denied participation, comrades caused chaos outside and all hell broke loose as DOR and police were deployed to deal with us. Mandla Shikwambane ended up emerging as the President but from that day onward the EFFSC politcal dynamics had changed forever as motherbody seemed to have infiltrated the Student Command.

Holiday Accommodation Announcement Nonetheless fighters travelled back safely and moved on (June,2019) with the struggle. During the June holidays came the time to decide the fate of our organisation the mighty EFFSC. The 3rd EFFSC NSA was upon us and the branch was calling for the name of Kamvelihle Goba to lead us. The organisation procured resources to attend the Assembly through the office of the CSRC President although that created conflict amongst the branch leadership and all those who wanted to attend the Assembly. The branch at that time had organised a Strategic Planning Week (SPW) to plan for the second semester, However the momentum and the tension of the Assembly was too much to bare for fighters. Most comrades submitted apologies and instead went on the trip to Free State to go deliver the 3rd EFFSC Fighters outside the Assembly ( Free State, 14 July 2019) CSCT. C O N T I N U E S . . .

Shortly after the June Holidays the branch and SRC started the offering of FREE classes for the Uphephela Learners Licemse program. The execution plan of this program was still unmatched and well coordintaed. The EFFSC led CSRC them came with another ground breaking achievement when they announced that from the 21st of July 2019 female students will receive pads for FREE at any given time at the Campus Clinics accross all CPUT campuses. The EFFSC was delivering the Students Manifesto as it promised, from all these victories it was Uphephela Learners License classes( 16 July 2019) clear that second term was guaranteed but the mighty EFFSC did not allow itself to be complecent. It continued to hit hard. Since it is know that the Sanitary Pads program was a default project of the EFFSC, students receiving pads for FREE was nothing new for them since they used to collect them from our offices what had changed now is that the program had been institutionalized now and that meant they could now collect pads at any given time. The branch then intensified the program even furher and decided to stop with the office distribution and initiate a Residence Pad Drive where each and every residence had a deployed fighter with pads for students of that Residence to collect. That meant that studenrs could collect pads at their residences or at the clinic, we have made Saniray pads accessible just like the maifesto of the EFF entails. We showed management and the entitre governement that FREE Samitary Pads Drives (July 2019) it was possible. C O N T I N U E S . . .

The EFFSC CPUT District 6 was just unstopopable, it was program after program and everything done was new to students just like we had promised. As we stated before that attention and resources were going to be directed to the Sports & Culture department for the first time. The EFFSC noticed how this department was not given support by the institution and had vowed to change that, we had succeed in getting the institution to suppott sports codes and provide incentives to those playing. The Varsity Shield victory and many other victories were in result of the presuure we have been applying behind closed doors. Now it was time for us as the SRC to prove our support by plouring our own resources. The EFFSC initiated the Uphephela Res Netball and Soccer Tournament. The tournament was well executed and in fact was better then the tournaments done by the institution the execution depicted our passion and the dedication we have for student development. All teams received food and the winners walked away with R10 000 and a Res Braai. We made so professional that we even had an wards ceremony afterwards. The standard was just ten times better then what CPUT provides during its June Soccer tournament, this also was something that has never been done by the SRC before. Studnets appreciated this and understood the little mistakes we did since it was our first time. C O N T I N U E S . . .

It is no secret that the EFFSC has been involved in the struggle of workers since day one. We have been with the workers ever since the inception of #OutsourcingMustFall movement and we never left their side. When the instituition decided to close down cafeterias for revamping purposes it retrenched all the Cafeteria staff and many of the Securities and Cleaners who were insourced in 2016 still had not signed their contracts and were being mistreated by CPUT management. As the Constitution of the mighty EFF/SC guides us that the workers struggle shall be intertwined with that of the students. There was no way the workers CSRC President Sipho Mokoena & Yanga Sikolo Ground force addressing the struggle would be left unattended in the presence worse workers (Lecturer Theatre 8, 29 July 2019) under the leadership of the EFFSC. Although the Insitutions governing document only state students as our Constituency but to us our revolutiony theory and background comes first. With that being said the EFFSC dealt with the matter of workers through the office of the CSRC President Sipho Mokoena. A mass meeting with workers was called at the District 6 campus and the President and the organisation articulated their position and support to the workers struggles. A resolution was then taken that a revolutionary visist to the office of the VC was to be done with immediate effect. The entire collective led by the EFFSC and its President marched straight to the office of the VC, The VC called for an urgent meeting to sit to resolve this impasse and the meeting on Fighters marching with workers to the office of the VC (Bellville, 29 July 2019) that very same day where a memoraundum of demands was submitted to the VCs office. The national program was finanlly executed. On the 15th of August 2019 the first group of students that applied for the Uphephela Learners License program wrote their first test at the Traffic Department and recorded a 92% pass rate. From that moment it was clear to the masses that the EFFSC walks their talk, fighters had proved to the Country that offering Drivers Licenses as a program part of the curriclum of institutions of higher learning was possible. We proved that we have a crisis of leadership in our country, we are led by people who have no interest of the masses at heart, if a mere branch could provide FREE Sanitary Pads to students for the whole year and provide students with FREE Learners Driver Licemse without any resources whats stopping the Governement and University management to do the same with the ton of reasources they have at their dispossal. The amount of planning and execution to implement this program was beyond par and pure class. The EFFSC District 6 forces never got enough recognition for the level of dedication, planning and execution of this program. The mandate of the branch is to continue to usher this program until it finds expression in the cooridors of the institution and is adopted as by the management. The aim is to embed it into the curriculum so it can be charged along with the fees and to ensure that students graduate with a full package of a qualification and a driving livcemse this is the first step to decolonizing the curriculum and the education system. Students showing off their Learners Licenses (15 August 2019) C O N T I N U E S . . .

The Uphephela went on to change the norm of the EFFSC was once again proving to students that to us it previous leadership of hosting a beauty pageant, the was never about money but the development of students current SRC has changed the landscape and will host the to a point that even entertainment events were turned first CPUT Got Talent. The objective of this was to create into fundraising mechanisms to sustain the a platform for our students to express with their developmental programs we had initiated for students. extraordinary abilities outside the academic sphere. Fact Celebs judges were invited and great prizes were remains that CPUT is an academic institution but we can awarded to make it more professional. The winner walked never shy away from the fact that plenty of students have out with a Laptop, Huwaei Smartphone,Sponsorship from talents that can make them stars in their future lives the VC, MailoMusic song feature and a National radio and therefore it is very imperative for us an institution to TV interview. create such platforms for students and to understand that extramural Activities are one of the most important aspects of a solid education. As leadership we should to be able to provide our students with experiences and opportunities outside of the stipulated curriculum to broaden their experiences of their world and themselves. The CPUT Got Talent was also the first event done by the SRC that consolidated ALL local campuses, it had local Prelims hosted by the LSRC’s that took place at all the respective campuses, the top 5 acts from the locals then battled for the number one spot at the Final showdown hosted by the CSRC. Students were required to produce 1 pack of Sanitary Pads to enter at the CPUT Got Talent events and 2 packs to enter at the After Party events. The Sanitary Pads were donated to the Campus Clinics to contribute to the SRC Pad Drive, a program which seek to provide free Sanitary Pads for needy female students. C O N T I N U E S . . . Since we were moving towards elections the branch saw it important to once again equipment members with political theory. An initiative called Guerilla Talk was then founded. This was a platform for fighters to debate and engage on political theory once every weak starting from the 3rd week of August 2019. Since the organisation was Branch Induction poster(17 August 2019) in power and leading well it obviously attracted more masses and gained more members therefore it was imperative to teach new members on the history and idealogical background of the organisation, a branch induction was then done on the 17th of August 2019 where the new design Tshirsts were realesed. Aviwe Mtitsimbana a ground force of the movement and Sipho Mokoena the then CSRC President were the speakers of the day and provided insight on the ideology of the organisation, the history of the branch, the Students Manifesto and the governing strategies and mechanisms of the EFFSC. After that the branch noticed that it only focused its attention on full time students only therefore shifted attention to part time students also Part time students Coffee Table poster since it was winter the branch decided to place a Coffee (August 2019) table outside Commerce buildings in the afternoon during part time classes. Part time students will go there and get FREE Coffee and biscuits . The program ran succesfully for weeks but had to end due to lack of resources but the part time students appreciated the thought from the mighty Students Command. C O N T I N U E S . . . There was then a huge protests during the month of August where female students took a stand against GBV after the increased rate of GBV cases on campuses. Our female students demanded that the institution improves its security and revists the GBV Policy. At this time many Night Prayer (Piazza, 29 August 2019) of our students had committed suicide, District 6 campus alone had 4 deaths in a space of 2 weeks there was just this bad cloud hanging over our institution. The District 6 leadership decided to do a night prayer where all students would gather at the Piazza hold candles and pray, the prayer was on the 29th of August 2019. The prayer was very succesful and was attended by many. In the midst of the increase of GBV and the abducting of our beloved sisters the EFFSC led CSRC distributed free pepper sprays to female students around all campuses. LSRC Chairperson Tumiso Mfsa and sponsor handing out pepper sprays ( Student Centre, 30 Soon after the GBV protest ended, the EFFSC led LSRC September 2019) through its newly launched International Students Forum that was led by Fighter Anathi Thamahani the first LSRC International Officer in the history of District 6 did a braai for International students. As we stated during our campaign that we would cater for ALL students once in power and we did exactly that. International students were neglected during the previous years and we came in we completeyr changed that. We launched the first ever LSRC International International students and fighters baaing Forum which was working hand in hand with AIS. The (District 6 campus, International forum was launched on the 29 July 2019 October 2019) and was in place to help international students address their issues. C O N T I N U E S . . . As stated during our manifesto launch in 2016 that the EFFSC will focus on developing on students and that all resources shall be directed to developmental programs instead of bashes like the previous leadership did. Although we understand that insititutions of higher learning can be stressful and therefore entertainment becomes necessary we never said we will never do any bashes but made it categorically clear that it shall never be prioritized and it shall be the last program to be done after all important developing projects have been executed. The EFFSC lived up to its word and through the CSRC the final program of the year was a bash. The EFFSC led CSRC did a Victory Bash to celebrate the great year CPUT has had. It was no secret that 2019 under the leadership of the EFFSC had been a year of achievements . CPUT Netball were crowned 2019 USSA Champions. CPUT Rugby were crowned 2019 Varsity Shield Rugby Champions. CPUT Mens and Women Soccer teams were crowned 2019 InterVarstity champions. CPUT Table Tennis team crowned 2019 InterVarsity champions. CPUT Enactus crowned national champions. CPUT Student Zozinini Tunzi was crowned Miss SA. CPUT Student Xolani Ntshinga was crowned Green Ambassador of the Year award. CPUT became the first institution of higher education in the Western Cape, to provide Antiretroviral Treatment (ART) to students at campus level. CPUT CSRC managed to create a sustainable sanitary pad drive, making pads available at the campus clinics for all needy female students. CPUT CSRC Victory Bash ( Bellville Stadium, 27 September 2019) SRC became the first across the country to provide students with Free Learners Drivers Licenses. These victories defintely called for a celebration. C O N T I N U E S . . . With this level of ground work and execution of programs second term for the EFFSC was definitely guaranteed. The EFFSC led CSRC in its closing statement after their term had ended announced that they had managed to increase the capacity of Residence. It is common Parkhomes aka Hillbrow placed by the CSRC knowledge that the struggle of residence is a national to solve the January crisis ( Bellville, February 2019) struggle and is a struggle that will not be solved overnight as it speaks direct to the land question , as the outgoing CSRC we proudly proclaim the bringing in of Parkhomes (Prefabs/Shacks) aka Hillbrow , we advocated for them as the outgoing CSRC without any fear or shame, Hillbrow to us was a permanent protest; a political statement that depicted and constantly reminded the management of the institution and the government at large of the necessity of increasing residence buildings, Hillbrow housed 50 students who were stranded at the beginning Newly opened Student Junction Residence of the year and all of them are now placed comfortable at (Parow, March, 2019) a new Residence called Student Junction that was opened due to the pressure applied by the existence and presence of Hillbrow. The pressure was indeed felt and we still remain adamant that Hillbrow shall remain situated and shall remain our permanent protest towards the residence struggle. The EFFSC led CSRC was proud to announce that the residence capacity will increased by 2000+ beds next year, below are the listed new buildings that will be opened some were already occupied by us this year like Orchards and Student Junction there will just be an increment of beds next year. South Point Newly opend Vogue Residence ( Cape Town, Orchards: 1350 beds, South Point Claremont: 187 January 2020) beds,Southern Life Parow: 91 beds,Student Junction Parow: 400 beds,iLele House Belpark: 207 beds,Bellville South: 300 beds (Available from July 2020)Vogue House: 300 beds,Park Central Claremont: 74 beds. This was our third time contesting elections and this time around we were more experienced and a giant of note. Since there was a protest the calendar got distrubed and the initial proposed date of elections had to be changed. Due to the maladministration of the Department of Student Affairs and the incompetency of the IEC company elections got further delayed and talks of postponing them were finding expression within the corridors of student leaders since final exams were approaching. The opposition however twisted the narrative and created a perception that its the EFFSC that wants to delibartetly postpone elections because it wants to get an automatic second term. Little did they know that the EFFSC was way prepared, in fact with the level of groundwork and the achieveemnts of the EFFSC led SRC Fighters at Granger Bay campaigning (Granger Bay, 09 October there was no need for the EFFSC to campaign, our job 2019) was already done and second term was guaranteed long time ago our main concern was having elections during final examinations and we did not want to temper with the academic calaender as we understood that once we postpone exams December graduation will be affected. Therefore to us academics which are the main purpose we are enrolled at CPUT for the first place was our main priority. Eventually we succumbed and allowed elections to sit, we had no fear of retaining power whatsoever although a glimpse of doubt was there since students are not to be trusted. At this time oppostion was already campaigning in fact they started weeks before us. The District Six branch then resolved that we should also start campaigning, the first visit was to the Granger Bay campus on the 9th of October and later that day we went to Student Junction Residence in Parow where the incoming Chairperson articulated the position of Chairperson Wendly kondlo addressing students during campaigning Wendly (Parow, 09 October 2019) the movement and reminded students what we had done for them. C O N T I N U E S . . .

The strategic EFFSC used the same strategy as last year, Second stop was a visit to the nearby residences Hanover where we go as a small group to do res visits to engage and Sadenburgh again where Chairperson Wendy students one on one, then show our full strength during Kondlo was at the forefront of reminding the masses the last last res vists where we release all our masses. This what Uphephela had done for them. At this time our year was much more easier because all we had to do was oppostion thought they had the ground covered even just remind students of what we do and our opposition as mocked us for not having masses yet they knew we were usual did nothing the whole except for hawling and the biggest branch at CPUT and probably the entire lambasting the EFFSC they even made us more popular Western Cape. They themselves could not even fill a single as they could not campaign without mentioning the bus with the masses they had, Engine 4.7 was just too EFFSC. However the biggest challenge the branch was strong for them to a point that it made the irrelevant to facing is the issue of candidates, only two out of the 9 the masses, they dismally lost masses. deployed had experience in leading Wendly Kondlo and Zimasa Pama were the two, the hope of the branch was that since most of the current incumbents were returning the following the year the branch would become more stronger and give guidance and support to the incomings. What was happening to the branch in regards to candidates was identical to the 2016 where we had to beg people to contest under our banner although this year all of them were fighters but many were not ground forces and had no political experience, some even had to be begged to come campaign. The 60% eligibity rule was taking its toll on the branch for the first time but nonetheless we moved on and intensified our campaign. Eventually despite all the maladministration voting was much. If one understands the dynamics of the EFFSC concluded but as usual counting dragged because if CPUT then one would understand that theres no way the bitterness of the opposition not wanting to accept defeat. EFFSC Bellville could win then have District 6 loose. It

Since elections were postponed for a day at District 6 was clear that EFFSC was also going to reigh supreme at then an extra one was added which meant results would District 6 just like it happened in 2018. On the 19th of continued both Mowbray and Bellville came to come

October 2019 around 5:30 AM Mowbray results were assist with the final round of campaigning. It was difficult released and the mighty EFFSC reigned supreme. This because it was 4 days before the final exams so there was psychologically worked on our favor and sent a clear no one on campus but there was no time for intimidating message to the opposition and further complaining. The EFFSC mobilised itself with the reminding the students that EFFSC was still their last assistance of the sister branches and went res to res to hope. On that same day later during the day when voting collect students. When voting ended it was time for was still taking place at District 6 Bellville results also got counting and EFFSC led from the word go and released and the Student Command reigned supreme surprisingly SASCO was close instead of PASMA. SASCO once more. This broke the hearts of the opposition kept closing the gap which made it impossible to particularly PASMA at Bellville and SASCO at Mowbray celebrate the lead but when it came to counting of the because they were so certain that they were claiming day 2 votes the EFFSC opened a serious gap of 150+ votes back their stronghold campuses but it wasn't to be, the and right there and there it was clear that Wendy ground that was done by the led SRC was just too EFFSC Kondlo was delivered as the second LSRC Chairperson. District 6 was confirmed victorious. The EFFSC CPUT set to be. Bellville and District 6 and this year we became the first and that made EFFSC CPUT the giant it is now was ever organisation to defend power in all 3. However just broken into pieces. The District 6 also got sabotaged like last year we were denied the hype of celebrating further when our newly elected LSRC Treasurer Zintle instantly because of these delays, sadly this year was even Pasiya was removed because she was serving a worse because it was now 2 days before the start of final disciplinary penalty even though she passed screening, exams, some had already started in fact so fighters had to went on the ballot paper and got voted into power she go prepare for their exams. The branch resolved that the newly poor turnout of voters and the fact that we only exist in 4 elected incumbents must not go to inauguration until campuses out of 5 we could only manage to retain 3 Zintle was returned as we attempted to take this matter out of the 4 we had. Although we won all Locals CSRC to court, however since Zintle was no longer interested in where we exist in since CSRC is propositional the number continuing with her Masters studies the branch decided of votes we obtained were not enough to give us the to let the matter go because if we had won the case that majority of seats. Things then all of a sudden started seat would now be occupied by SASCO which we could falling apart. Surprsinfly Bellville campus decided to... never accept. It was very disappointing and would go out of line the leadership of Wendy failed to be painful to watch a former branch Chairperson who has decisive in implementing harsh disciplinary measures led SRC before defy democratic centralism in that therefore she was expecting the same to be done to her manner. This exposed what power can do to people, it when she is now on the other side of the fence but further exposed that the organisation still had a lot to do forgetting that now the branch is the one that is more in terms of politically equipping its members and stronger than the SRC which is how it should be in the teaching them the principles of governance.
