Aanatomical features as revealed from cross-sections of leaf blades and midribs in 21 taxa of Gypsophila representing its currently recognized seven sections distributed in Iran as well as four species of Saponaria, two species of Allochrusa and one species of Ankyropetalum as its closely related genera are examined. In total nine quantitative and five qualitative characters were selected and measured. The most important characters include general shape of leaves (assessed only for narrow leaves) in transverse section, type of mesophyll (dorsi-ventral vs. isobilateral), thickness of sclerenchyma surrounding the vascular bundles, shape of central vascular bundle, number of parenchyma layers in midrib, thickness (number of layers) and structure of mesophyll, density and distribution of druses. In general, leaf anatomy does not provide any unique feature supporting the separation of genera Ankyropetalum and Allochrusa from Gypsophila. The number of spongy layers provides support at least for separation of Gypsophila (more than two layers) from most species of Saponaria (only one layer). Our results show that leaf anatomical features provide reliable evidence for subgeneric classification of Gypsophila and could be taxonomically valuable. Introduction During two expeditions to the south and south-westerly exposed warm rocky slopes of the karst edge in the hinterland above Trieste (Trst), seven males of Bembecia pavicevici Toøevski, 1986, were captured. The specimens had flown onto a synthetic sexual pheromone lure (PRI-DLO, Wageningen, The Netherlands), intended for Synanthedon myopaeformis (Borkhausen, 1789) and are deposited in the author's collection. B. pavicevici occurs in the Balkan peninsula and along the Adriatic coast to Slovenian Istria in the north. The species has been observed in Slovenia in the coastal part and along the karst edge frequently (Predovnik, 2001), so that its discovery near Trieste was expected. -

Appendix K. Survey and Manage Species Persistence Evaluation Establishment of the 95-foot wide construction corridor and TEWAs would likely remove individuals of H. caeruleus and modify microclimate conditions around individuals that are not removed. The removal of forests and host trees and disturbance to soil could negatively affect H. caeruleus in adjacent areas by removing its habitat, disturbing the roots of host trees, and affecting its mycorrhizal association with the trees, potentially affecting site persistence. Restored portions of the corridor and TEWAs would be dominated by early seral vegetation for approximately 30 years, which would result in long-term changes to habitat conditions. A 30-foot wide portion of the corridor would be maintained in low-growing vegetation for pipeline maintenance and would not provide habitat for the species during the life of the project. Hygrophorus caeruleus is not likely to persist at one of the sites in the project area because of the extent of impacts and the proximity of the recorded observation to the corridor. Hygrophorus caeruleus is likely to persist at the remaining three sites in the project area (MP 168.8 and MP 172.4 (north), and MP 172.5-172.7) because the majority of observations within the sites are more than 90 feet from the corridor, where direct effects are not anticipated and indirect effects are unlikely. The site at MP 168.8 is in a forested area on an east-facing slope, and a paved road occurs through the southeast part of the site. Four out of five observations are more than 90 feet southwest of the corridor and are not likely to be directly or indirectly affected by the PCGP Project based on the distance from the corridor, extent of forests surrounding the observations, and proximity to an existing open corridor (the road), indicating the species is likely resilient to edge- related effects at the site. -

Drought, high temperature amplitude, scarcity of nutrients and high insolation are general characteristics of exposed limestone cliff faces. The vegetation of limestone cliffs in the Swiss Jura mountains consists of plants of arctic-alpine, continental and Mediterranean origin. Several populations exhibit relicts from post- or interglacial warm or cold climatic periods. Grazing goats and timber harvesting influenced the forests surrounding the limestone cliffs in northern Switzerland for many centuries. -

Short descriptions and photographs of the taxa are provided. Key words — Ascomycota, biodiversity, macrofungi Introduction Earth-tongues, including the genera Geoglossum Pers., Leotia Pers., Microglossum Gillet, Spathularia Pers., Spathulariopsis Maas Geest., and Trichoglossum Boud., are among the most widely distributed groups of fungi in the division Ascomycota. They produce large pileate tongue-shaped fruiting bodies on various substrates and are common in temperate regions. Despite their wide distribution, most have been described from North America and Southwest China (Zhuang 1998, Hustad et al. 2011, Wang et al. 2011). Spathulariopsis (Cudoniaceae) is a monotypic genus. Also known as velvet- foot fairy fan, S. velutipes forms a yellowish to brownish yellow laterally compressed fan- or spatula-like head on a narrow brownish stem, needle- shaped hyaline occasional septate ascospores, and 8-spored asci. Trichoglossum (Geoglossaceae) contains 19 species (Kirk et al. 2008), commonly known as black earth-tongues. Trichoglossum taxa are usually characterized by club-shaped brownish black fruiting bodies, smooth or velvety stipes, 7–15-septate smooth dark ascospores, large 4–8-spored asci, and a positive reaction of the apical ascus pore in Meltzer’s reagent (Arora 1986, Hansen & Knudsen 2000). -

Understory Plant Species Diversity of Asalem's Forests, Northern Iran

Habib Yazdanshenas,1 Mehdi Kalagar,2 Mehdi Thus, present research was carried out to find the chorology, origin and diversity of 3 the understory plants species in Asalem’s forests, northern Iran. E. Barr, Capronia chlorospora (Ellis et Everh.) M. E. Barr, Cercophora caudata (Currey) Lundq., Farlowiella carmichaelina (Berk.) Sacc., Gloniopsis curvata (Fr.) Sacc., Mytilinidion rhenanum Fuckel, Pseudotrichia m utabilis (Pers.: Fr.) Wehm., Rebentischia massalongii (Mont.)
