This ninth-century Hindu temple complex, which since 1991 has been listed as a world heritage site, was a professional archaeological reconstruction. The method employed for the reconstruction was anastylosis,2 however, when it came to the roof top, a bit of fantasy was also employed. For a long time the site had been not much more than a pile of stones. But now, to a new 1 The historian Sunario, a former Indonesian ambassador to England, in an interview with Jacques Leclerc on 23-10-1974, quoted in Leclerc 2000:43. 2 Anastylosis, first developed in Greece, proceeds on the principle that reconstruction is only possible with the use of original elements, which by three-dimensional deduction on the site have to be replaced in their original position. The Dutch East Indies’ Archaeological Service – which never employed the term – developed this method in an Asian setting by trial and error (for the first time systematically at Candi Panataran in 1917-1918). -

It can be a powerful strategy to introduce and popularize the offered product or service. Moreover, such a strategy can be learned and done easily with the suitable knowledge. However, only as small number of creative industries in Sukoharjo Regency has applied this marketing strategy. The actors in creative industries still use simple methods, such as verbal marketing, direct selling to the market and direct order from customers who come to the production site. Such methods make the products and services are only used by people around Sukoharjo. Limitations of the marketing area result in less optimal revenue. To solve some problems in the creative industries in Sukoharjo, the trainings on how to expand the marketing area through Internet or online, and the trainings of online advertising in the form of videography are required. Market, Medicine, and Empire: Hoshi Pharmaceuticals in the Interwar Years Timothy M. Yang Submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY 2013 © 2013 Timothy M. Yang All rights reserved ABSTRACT Market, Medicine, and Empire: Hoshi Pharmaceuticals in the Interwar Years Timothy M. Yang This dissertation examines the connections between global capitalism, modern medicine, and empire through a close study of Hoshi Pharmaceuticals during the interwar years. As one of the leading drug companies in East Asia at the time, Hoshi embodied Japan's imperial aspirations, rapid industrial development, and burgeoning consumer culture. The company attempted to control every part of its supply and distribution chain: it managed plantations in the mountains of Taiwan and Peru for growing coca and cinchona (the raw material for quinine) and contracted Turkish poppy farmers to supply raw opium for government-owned refineries in Taiwan. Hoshi also helped shape modern consumer culture in Japan and its colonies, and indeed, became an emblem for it. At its peak in the early 1920s, Hoshi had a network of chain stores across Asia that sold Hoshi-brand patent medicines, hygiene products, and household goods. In 1925, however, the company's fortunes turned for the worse when an opium trading violation raised suspicions of Hoshi as a front for the smuggling of narcotics through Manchuria and China. Although the company was a key supplier of medicines to Japan's military during World War Two, it could not financially recover from the fallout of the opium scandal. -

Bab V Penutup 5.1
23 BAB V PENUTUP 5.1. -

Abstract The Japanese currency has recently weakened past 100 yen to the dollar, leading to some criticism that Japan is engaging in a “currency war.” The reason for the recent depreciation of the yen is the expecta- tion of higher inflation in Japan, owing to the rapid projected growth in Japanese base money, the sum of currency and commercial banking reserves at the Bank of Japan. Hamada (1985) and Hamada and Okada (2009) among others argue that in general, the expansion of the money supply or the credible an- nouncement of a higher inflation target does not necessarily constitute a “currency war”. We show through our empirical analysis that expan- sionary Japanese monetary policies have generally helped raise U.S. GDP, despite the appreciation of the dollar. 1 Introduction. The Japanese currency has recently weakened past 100 yen to the dollar, leading to criticism that Japan is engaging in a “currency war.” The reason for the recent depreciation of the yen is the expectation of higher inflation in Japan, owing to the rapid projected growth in Japanese base money, the sum of currency and commercial banking reserves at the Bank of Japan. -
