Nevertheless, adult oysters do not demonstrate mortality in the field related to OsHV-1 detection and were thus assumed to be more resistant to viral infection. Determining how virus and adult oyster interact is a major goal in understanding why mortality events are not reported among adult Pacific oysters. Dual transcriptomics of virus-host interactions were explored by real-time PCR in adult oysters after a virus injection. Thirty-nine viral genes and five host genes including MyD88, IFI44, IkB2, IAP and Gly were measured at 0.5, 10, 26, 72 and 144 hours post infection (hpi). No viral RNA among the 39 genes was detected at 144 hpi suggesting the adult oysters are able to inhibit viral replication. Moreover, the IAP gene (oyster gene) shows significant up-regulation in infected adults compared to control adults. This result suggests that over-expression of IAP could be a reaction to OsHV-1 infection, which may induce the apoptotic process. Apoptosis could be a main mechanism involved in disease resistance in adults. Also, similarly to high-risk mucosal and cutaneous PVs, the OaPV3-E7 protein, constantly expressed in sheep squamous cell carcinomas, binds pRb with higher affinity compared to the E7 encoded by OaPV4, avirusas- sociated to fibropapilloma. Finally, we found that OaPV3 and OaPV4-E6E7 determine upregulation ofthepro- proliferative proteins cyclin A and cdk1 in both human and ovine primary keratinocytes. -

The most commonly reported afected animal species with pythiosis are equine and canine, with fewer cases in bovine and feline. Extracutaneous infections caused by Pythium insidiosum have been rarely described in the cat. Case presentation: Sublingual pythiosis was diagnosed in a 2-year-old, male, Domestic Shorthair cat. The cat had a multilobulated, sublingual mass present for 3 months. Histopathological examination revealed severe multifocal coalescing eosinophilic granulomatous infammation. Centers of the infammation contained hyphae that were 3–7 μm-wide, non-parallel, uncommonly septate and rarely branching. The fungal-like organism was identifed as P. insid- iosum by polymerase chain reaction and subsequent amplicon sequencing. Conclusions: Only a few feline pythiosis cases have been reported and, when encountered, it usually causes granu- lomatous diseases of the skin or gastrointestinal tract. This case presents an unusual manifestation of feline pythiosis, representing the frst involving the oral cavity in cats or dogs. Lee, MD, New York, New York Although the incidence and morbidity of tuberculo- sis (TB) have declined in the latter half of the last decade in the United States, the number of cases of TB (especially cutaneous TB) among those born outside of the United States has increased. This discrepancy can be explained, in part, by the fact that cutaneous TB can have a long latency period in those individuals with a high degree of immunity against the organism.
