Hello members and friends, Yet again we have enjoyed a very successful year. Although the Society has been running for over 30 years, our membership has remained stable and has even increased slightly in recent years, reflecting a continuing enthusiasm for and appreciation of the earth sciences and related activities. A background in geology is not a prerequisite to membership and every member is strongly encouraged to take part regardless of their level of knowledge. Although the initial aim of the Society was the exploration and understanding of Hunter Valley geolo- gy, for several years now we have continued to widen our coverage well beyond the confines of the Valley. Even so, while the organizing committee tries to include new activities into the program each year, this is becoming more difficult. But new members bring new ideas and new experiences which everyone can benefit from. Occasionally old sites are revisited, either for the benefit of new members or where the availability of new information has allowed a greater understanding of earth history. Our first extended excursion was organized (with some trepidation) into the Flinders Ranges in 1995, but this was so successful that similar trips have since taken place annually.

    GO BUSH MARCH 2015 BENDIGO BUSHWALKING AND OUTDOOR CLUB INC President’s message for March Seven Committee members met at my place on March 17. In summary: • The new BBOC Logos, winch will be free to club members, are still coming soon. • Check out our continually improving website at http://gobush.org.au. • We're still developing a 'Leader's Pack', for inclusion in our website. This will be a great help to any member considering leading an activity; and we do need more leaders. • We reckon that Bushwalking Victoria's document on Safety and Risk Management will probably do us and we will have a link on the website to it. We recommend that all members study it; for most it will be common sense but there will be some new ideas that we should all know about. • We are going to make more use of Dropbox to store photos, reports etc, which will provide us with permanent backup of these. Garry is working on this. • Our meeting place, Sacred Heart Hall, will be demolished soon, so we are looking for a new inspiring venue. Kerrie (Norris) and Maggie are looking at three possibilities. If you have any ideas on a venue, let them know; their phone numbers are below. • The March meeting will feature Reece Tehan talking on his experiences as a volunteer for ten years helping the East Timorese get back on their feet. Come and hear how this new nation is recovering after 30 years of Indonesian persecution and Australian neglect. • Check out the Activities Calendar in this newsletter.

In 1934 a list oi 14 huts known to exist on the Main Range was publish€d. In qulte a number of cases only vague iniormation could be giyen. In 1935 we are in the happy position of being able to publish a list of 53 huts, on which we have reliable data. Some of these huts, which haye recently been built by holders of snow leases, are of vi.tal interest to touring pa.rtie6, situated, as they are, on the main Kosciusko-Kiandra Traverse. Among the more important of these, two stand paramount, Clarke's IIut at White's River Saddle and Spencer's Peak Hut, four miles north of Bull's Peaks. The re-opening of the mine at Grey Mare's, with the subsequent possibility of miners being in residence throughout the winter months, and the building of a ne\ri hut betv.'eenJagungal and Farm Ridge, open up a new expanse of wonderful ski-ing country in a hitherto inaccessible locality.

The Club held its 2016 AGM on Monday 21 March. President Angela gave a report on the year’s activities (see below) and Treasurer Arthur gave the Financial report for the year. All current elected Office Bearers then stood down, nominations were called and an election held for the 2016 Office Bearers. The results of the election are as follows: President – Angela Vice President – Nick Treasurer – Hazel Secretary – Alan Elected Member – Arthur Elected Member – Peter Elected Member – Lynne Nominations for Non-elected Office Bearers. The new Committee will hold its first meeting early in April. At that meeting, one of its key tasks is to appoint people to fill the various roles that are vital to the Club’s effective functioning. All members are encouraged to play an active role in the Club’s administration so if any member would like to nominate for any of the positions, or has any suggestions as to how they would like to help, please let Angela or Alan know.
