Leonard Family Migrate The family of Thomas Leonard and Julia Kelly were born in Ballynakill near Woodford, County Galway. It is likely that Thomas and Julia both died before 1863. It was a poor, overcrowded district, the principal landlord being Lords Clanricarde, who over generations began enclosing their estates for grazing, resulting in many evictions of tenants and emigration during the 1830s and later. It was a disaffected district with much rebellious activity conducted by “Whiteboys” against landlords. Other Crookwell district families which came from Woodford, County Galway area were the Tully’s, Fahys and Brodericks.The Tully and Broderick families who were here at an early period and no doubts their reports encouraged the Leonard family to migrate, in fact they were to sponsor many family members to emigrate from Ireland. In fact Patrick Leonard sponsored his sister the widow Catherine Fahy and her five children and helped them make a start at Grabben Gullen. James, Margaret and Patrick's Leonard's arrived in Sydney on the ship "Loyds".Patrick was a widower whose wife had died in Ireland. He was accompanied by two children, daughter Ann aged 12 years and son Patrick aged 10 years. He married Margaret McCabe in 1860 and had a large family.

    Descendants of Thomas and Anne Bayley Generation No. 1 1. THOMAS 2 BAYLEY (ROBERT 1) was born 1833 in Van Diemans Land, and died 17 Apr 1885 in Queanbeyan NSW. He married ANNE MARIA ALCHIN 01 Aug 1855 in Jerrawa Creek NSW, daughter of AMBROSE ALCHIN and ELIZABETH WATERHOUSE. She was born 07 Jul 1832 in Maidstrone, Kent, England, and died 04 Jul 1914 in Petersham NSW - buried Rookwood Cemetery. THOMAS BAYLEY: The Bayley’s arrived in the Yass district in about 1846. Colonial records show that Thomas was a farmer at Chain of Ponds on Jerrawa Creek from 1854 to 1873, a free holder at Chain of Ponds in 1878/79 (NSW electoral roll), a hotelkeeper at the Commercial Hotel, Gundaroo in 1882 and a squatter along the railway line at Queanbeyan in 1885. Thomas died at Queanbeyan on 17th April 1885 (1885/14050) aged 52 years and he was buried at Bungendore Cemetery. Ann died at Leichhardt on 4th July 1914 (NSW 1914/10850) aged 82 years and she is buried in the old Methodist cemetery at Rookwood Necropolis in Sydney.     THETHEvv iceice ofof UpperUpper LachlanLachlan Shire,Shire, thethe ShireShire ofof VillagesVillages June 2015 Major Road Improvement Projects Throughout the Shire Upper Lachlan Shire Council’s Works staff have been busy completing a number of major road improvement projects throughout the Shire. Recently, Council has completed three major projects, a substantial milestone in Council’s 2014/2015 construction program. These projects include: Main Road 54 Junction Point Road Segment 475; Main Road 256 Tarlo Hill and Range Road rehabilitation. The total cost of these road works is around $3.431 million, with funding provided by Council’s roads budget and Government funding programs. Another major work in progress is the Taralga Road reconstruction and sealing project which has been ongoing for a number of years. Council is currently working on a 3 kilometre unsealed section between Wowagin and Commissioners Creek, work involves reconstructing the road to make the pavement safer for drivers and more efficient for heavy vehicles to use. Up to 40,000 cubic metres of dirt has been shifted from the crest and used to reconstruct the road surface. The segment was cleared and prepared earlier in Council Work’s Crew on Main Road 256 Tarlo Hill: the year, and work recommenced in May and will continue into September. Council staff and equipment have been used to complete the work on Taralga Road, and completion of the road will provide an important link between Crookwell and Taralga, as well links to Tablelands Way and Oberon Road giving tourism and economic development benefits to the region.

LachLandcare ANNUAL REPORT 2014 - 2015 The Lachlan Catchment in central western NSW features a broad geographic diversity that includes the temperate forests, woodlands and grasslands of the east, and the semi-arid woodlands, mallee and 2 shrublands of the west. The catchment area is 86,554km , which is 8% of the total Murray Darling Basin area. It is essentially a terminal system with the Lachlan River ending in the extensive wetlands of the Great Cumbung Swamp. The region includes important wetlands of national significance, is home to a variety of threatened flora and fauna, and is a key agricultural region in NSW, producing fine wine, food and textiles.
