Trent Rosecrans GOODYEAR, ARIZ. — Tony Cingrani gets angry every time he gives up a hit. It doesn’t matter if it’s a spring training exhibition game – like the one he will start Saturday against the Colorado Rockies – or against the St. Louis Cardinals. As the Reds’ second-year starter sees it, it’s his job to not give up any hits and if he gives up a hit, he didn’t do his job. That makes him angry – and like a famous fictional character, you wouldn’t like him when he’s angry. “That’s how I get myself fired up. I need to throw harder, so I try to get super angry and throw it harder,” Cingrani said. “I’m not turning green – I’m trying to scare somebody and see what happens.” Cingrani’s intensity even turned into a meme among Reds fans, with the “Cingrani Face” becoming synonymous with an intense, scary mug. Cingrani said he saw that, and even chuckles quietly about it.

MLB.COM Cingrani determined to win rotation job After hurting shoulder last season, southpaw feels fine in camp By Mark Sheldon / MLB.com / [email protected] / @m_sheldon GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- Reds left-hander Tony Cingrani not only sounded determined in that he wanted a spot in the club's rotation, but also that he needed it, too. "That's what I'm going to do the rest of my career. I'm not, not going to start," Cingrani said. "It's going to happen. If I'm not starting, then there is an issue and I will address it then. Until that point, I don't need to worry about it." Of course, there are variables involved before Cingrani can achieve his goal of getting one of Cincinnati's two open rotation spots -- shoulder health and performance are two, and there is a competition with other candidates. Cingrani, 25, did not pitch after June 19 last season because of shoulder issues. He spent two weeks on the disabled list in May with tendinitis. So far in camp, there have been no problems with Cingrani's arm. "Sometimes it's hard to tell with your guys. Some guys are blow and go in their bullpen [sessions]. He looks fine to me," Reds manager Bryan Price said.

Indians, Kluber strike 5-year deal Cleveland also working toward an extension with fellow right-handed starter Carrasco By Jordan Bastian / MLB.com | @MLBastian | 58 minutes ago + 16 COMMENTS HOUSTON -- Indians ace Corey Kluber is scheduled to make his first Opening Day start on Monday against the Astros. The reigning American League Cy Young Award winner is expected to take the mound at Minute Maid Park with a new contract on the books. On Saturday night, MLB.com confirmed that Cleveland has reached an agreement on a five-year contract with Kluber, pending the completion of a physical. While the financial details of the deal are not immediately known, the pact does include a pair of team-option years. The Indians are also working toward a contract extension with fellow Tribe starter Carlos Carrasco. Indians general manager Chris Antonetti could not be reached for comment, but he made it known earlier this week that Cleveland's preference is to wrap up any negotiations prior to the start of the regular season. "I'll stay away from anyone specifically," Antonetti said on Thursday. "But what we try to do is, once the season starts, have all of our focus be on preparing and winning games and trying to minimize distractions. That's a clear preference. It's how we've tried to operate in the past, so I expect that's how we'll move forward again this year with it." Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com first reported that the Indians were closing in on deals with both pitchers, while Jon Heyman of CBS Sports was the first to report that Cleveland reached an agreement with Kluber.
