Francisco Midwest League • Overall Perez and James Karinchak combined to pitch the fourth no-hitter in Captains history in game one of the twin- bill. Perez tossed the first 6.1 innings before walking three men in a row with one out in the seventh. Karinchak Eastern Division W L GB then nailed down the final two outs for Lake County’s first no-hitter since 2011. Will Benson homered twice in game one and Jonathan Laureano added a solo homer. In game two, the Captains came back from an early 3-0 Lansing (Blue Jays) 12 6 -- deficit to win, 6-3. The Whitecaps scored three runs in the first, but the Lake County bullpen held West Michigan scoreless on just one hit over the final 6.1 innings. Austen Wade and Nolan Jones both went deep in the win. West Michigan (Tigers) 11 6 0.5 LAKE COUNTY (INDIANS) 10 8 2.0 NO-HIT HISTORY: Francisco Perez and James Karinchak combined to pitch the Captains’ fourth no-hitter in team history on April 25, 2018 against West Michigan in game one of a doubleheader. The Captains’ last no-hitter Dayton (Reds) 9 8 2.5 was on April 11, 2011 against Dayton. Lake County also had two no-hitters in 2007. All of the Captains’ no-hitters have been combined no-hitters. Bowling Green scored three runs in the second thanks to three singles, an error, three stolen bases and a balk that forced home a run, but two of the runs were unearned because of the error. The Hot Rods added a run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly. Lake County lost, 4-3. LAST SEASON: Hockin returned to the mound for the first time since 2014 after missing two seasons to Tommy John Surgery. In his return, Hockin made eight starts (33 IP) for the Short Season Mahoning Valley Scrappers from the end of June until the end of July. He went 2-4 with a 4.36 ERA. INJURIES: Missed all of 2015 and 2016 recovering from Tommy John Surgery (1,028 days between starts: August 27, 2014 to June 20, 2017) PROSPECTING: Was ranked the Indians’ 29th-best prospect by Baseball America in 2014 BASEBALL ROYALTY: Hockin is the grandson of Hall of Famer Harmon Killebrew. Killebrew was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1984 with 83.1% of the vote. He was the1969 AL MVP and a 13-time All-Star during 22 Major League seasons (21 with Washington/Minnesota, 1 with Kansas City).
