Department of the Interior U.S. Geological Survey New Information DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR U.S. GEOLOGICAL SURVEY NEW INFORMATION RESOURCES OF THE U.S. GEOLOGICAL SURVEY LIBRARY SYSTEM NUMBER 11 March 1987 OPEN-FILE REPORT 87-400-C This report is preliminary and has not been reviewed for conformity with the U.S. Geological Survey editorial standards 1987 INTRODUCTION New Information Resources is a list of new earth science materials recently acquired and cataloged by the U.S. Geological Survey. It is based on the accessions list acquired through our participation in the national OCLC on-line cataloging system. Due to technical reasons two separate lists are created. The first is an alphabetical list by main entry. These entries were assigned unique USGS subject headings that do not print in the OCLC system. They are therefore arranged alphabetically by main entry. The second list is by subject heading. It is subarranged by main entry. Each entry usually consists of four elements: subject, author/titie , imprint, and call number. EXAMPLE: Subject: EARTHQUAKES--TENNESSEE--COVINGTON. Author/titie: Metzger, Ann Garrecht. Covington, TN earthquake, February, 1981. Imprint: Memphis : Tennessee Earthquake Information Center, Memphis State University, 1981. Call number: S(239) Sp32 no. 5 Call numbers prefixed with "M" indicate an item is part of the map collection: M(410)4 B148s Call numbers ending with D only, MP only, or F only, indicate that one of these regional libraries, Denver, Menlo Park, or Fl-agstaff, is the sole-holder of an item: 210(252) H178m D only Occasionally an item will not be assigned a call number, receiving instead an alpha abbreviation, such as PAM, i.e pamphlet, or qPAM indicating an oversize pamphlet. 1469 The Canadian Mineralogist Vol. 43, pp. 1469-1487 (2005) BORATE MINERALS OF THE PENOBSQUIS AND MILLSTREAM DEPOSITS, SOUTHERN NEW BRUNSWICK, CANADA JOEL D. GRICE§, ROBERT A. GAULT AND JERRY VAN VELTHUIZEN† Research Division, Canadian Museum of Nature, P.O. Box 3443, Station D, Ottawa, Ontario K1P 6P4, Canada ABSTRACT The borate minerals found in two potash deposits, at Penobsquis and Millstream, Kings County, New Brunswick, are described in detail. These deposits are located in the Moncton Subbasin, which forms the eastern portion of the extensive Maritimes Basin. These marine evaporites consist of an early carbonate unit, followed by a sulfate, and fi nally, a salt unit. The borate assemblages occur in specifi c beds of halite and sylvite that were the last units to form in the evaporite sequence. Species identifi ed from drill-core sections include: boracite, brianroulstonite, chambersite, colemanite, congolite, danburite, hilgardite, howlite, hydroboracite, kurgantaite, penobsquisite, pringleite, ruitenbergite, strontioginorite, szaibélyite, trembathite, veatchite, volkovskite and walkerite. In addition, 41 non-borate species have been identifi ed, including magnesite, monohydrocalcite, sellaite, kieserite and fl uorite. The borate assemblages in the two deposits differ, and in each deposit, they vary stratigraphically. At Millstream, boracite is the most common borate in the sylvite + carnallite beds, with hilgardite in the lower halite strata. At Penobsquis, there is an upper unit of hilgardite + volkovskite + trembathite in halite and a lower unit of hydroboracite + volkov- skite + trembathite–congolite in halite–sylvite. At both deposits, values of the ratio of B isotopes [␦11B] range from 21.5 to 37.8‰ [21 analyses] and are consistent with a seawater source, without any need for a more exotic interpretation.

The tenement is located in 98 sub- blocks 126km SSE of the town of Croydon. The EPM was granted to explore for economic sulphide copper nickel deposits, and possibly economic uranium deposits. Bowen Energy originally applied for 17 Tenements in the Croydon Project area, but has subsequently rationalized these original 17 down to 3 tenements which include EPM 16272, 16274, and 16267. Bowen Energy has also picked up another tenement located on the south-western edge of the 3 remaining tenements which is EPM 17364.

Inventory and Assessment of Terrestrial Vegetation on the 45 Ranch Allotment Christopher J. Murphy Steven K. Rust * May 2000 Conservation Data Center Idaho Department of Fish and Game 600 South Walnut, P.O. Box 25 Boise, Idaho 83707 Rodney Sando, Director Prepared for: Idaho Field Office, The Nature Conservancy Contract No. IDFO - 052898 - TK * Project leader and principal contact. ii ABSTRACT The Owyhee Plateau region of southwestern Idaho is recognized by many for its ecological significance. In 1996 The Nature Conservancy purchased the 45 Ranch located on the Owyhee Plateau. In 1998 and 1999 an ecological inventory of the conservation site was conducted to prepare a baseline vegetation map of terrestrial plant associations, provide documentation of the composition and structure of major plant associations and condition classes, compile a comprehensive plant species list for the study area, and document the distribution of rare plant species. The report provides an integrated summary of the biological diversity of terrestrial habitats. A vegetation map of the 65,000-acre site was created using Landsat imagery and modeled distribution patterns. The distribution, relative abundance, composition, and structure of 37 plant associations is described. Twelve plant associations were not previously described. The distribution and abundance of 463 common and 19 rare vascular plant species is summarized. Lists of reptiles, amphibians, mammals, and birds observed on the conservation site are provided. The vegetation on 45 Ranch is primarily mid- to late-seral and in good to excellent condition. The ranch encompasses some of the highest quality, representative stands known on the Owyhee Plateau. The effects of resource-based land use practices and chronic disturbances, such as exotic species invasion, and their cumulative effects, however, are apparent.

  • Grant Opportunity – Greater Sage-Grouse Monitoring Within Nevada’S Most Novel Habitats
Grant Opportunity – Greater Sage-grouse Monitoring within Nevada’s Most Novel Habitats Proposals are due no later than June 18, 2021. Grant proposals and any questions should be directed to: Shawn Espinosa @ [email protected]. The Nevada Department of Wildlife is interested in understanding Greater sage-grouse (hereafter referred to as “sage-grouse”) population dynamics in areas of the state that have been affected by wildfire. The Santa Rosa Population Management Unit (PMU) presents an opportunity to continue studying sage-grouse in an area where demographic data have been collected before and after fire. Research is also ongoing within the Virginia Mountains and the Skedaddle area in eastern California where data have been collected both pre and post fire. Replication of these study area will provide us with valuable information regarding how sage-grouse respond to wildfire over time, their ability to recover post fire and whether restoration activities accelerate their response to fire. Our overall objective is to evaluate habitat use, movement patterns, and population dynamics (i.e. nest, brood, and adult survival) of sage-grouse breeding within the Santa Rosa/Owyhee beginning in the fall of 2017 through the fall of 2022. This research and monitoring will allow us to evaluate the full effects of the Martin Fire (2018). These demographic data can also be compared to other sage-grouse research sites across Nevada and California where the USGS is monitoring sage- grouse response disturbance (e.g., geothermal development) and livestock use (e.g., Winecup/Gamble study area). The major objective of these efforts is to estimate variation in habitat requirements and demographic performance for sage-grouse over multiple spatial scales across the Great Basin.
