Porsche 919 Hybrid Return to top-level sport Porsche is making its comeback to the top-level motorsport arena: with the new 919 Hybrid the sports car brand is sending a platform for pioneering technology to the top category of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) with the undisputed seasonal highlight of the 24-hour Le Mans race. Porsche's reputation precedes it at this venue: with 16 overall victories under its belt, the brand holds the record for this, the most famous endurance race in the world. In 2014 Porsche is returning to the top-level class endurance race after a 16-year absence - namely Le Mans Prototypes (LMP1). Matthias Müller, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG explains: "The new and revolutionary efficiency regulations for this class were what prompted us to take this step. In 2014 it is not going to be the fastest contender who is going to win the sports car world championship and Le Mans, but the car that gets furthest with the defined amount of energy. And it is precisely this challenge that the automotive industry has to face. The 919 Hybrid is like a high speed research laboratory and the most complex racing car Porsche has ever built." The new WEC regulations for the LMP1 racing car gives engineers an unusual amount of leeway and demands pioneering technology, such as hybridisation, downsizing engines and consistent lightweight construction. This is all particularly relevant for the development of future generations of factory-spec sports cars. Maximum sporting performance and highest efficiency are at the heart of "Porsche Intelligent Performance".

Patrick Long’s & Sebastien Bourdais’ Comments About the 8th Annual Kart 4 Kids Pro-Am Kart Race It’s only fitting that this year’s 8th annual Kart 4 Kids charity karting event takes place just a few steps from the entrance of Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in St Pete. It’s also just a stone’s throw from Dan Wheldon Way. Each year the event grows, the funds raised increase, and the awareness around a special hospital and a group of kids accelerate. Thank you to our hosts, all of the sponsors, partners, donors, pro drivers, and especially the large committee of great volunteers who make the production of this event happen. This event started off as a humble gathering, with the goal of raising a few dollars in the name of Dan Wheldon for the Hospital. Dan was a St. Pete resident, and someone who had a lot of time for All Children’s. We continue to race in his memory and smile as status and organization of this gathering continues to reach new boundaries! A few milestones were reached in 2018 for Kart for Kids. We managed to donate 130k$ to Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital, bring the event downtown and reinforce the involvement of the community and sponsors thanks to our amazing group of volunteers. The response from the racing community was no less impressive, with many drivers from different series donating their apparel and time. 2019 will be no less impressive and I want to thank each and every individual for their continued support.

2016 MEDIA GUIDE Toyota Racing Series: TOP INTERNATIONALS CHALLENGE LEADING KIWI DRIVERS New Zealand’s premier single-seater championship has once more attracted a top field of international drivers to this country to do battle with New Zealand drivers for the most prestigious trophies in New Zealand motor racing. The championship, now in its 12th season, and in the second season for the new FT50 race car, the series was established to help young New Zealanders to advance their racing careers by giving them experience in modern composite-based ‘wings and slicks’ race cars. It has launched Kiwis into international racing careers. New Zealand graduates of the series include 2015 FIA World Endurance Champion Brendon Hartley, Le Mans 24-Hour race winner Earl Bamber, GP2 racers Mitch Evans and Richie Stanaway, Japanese Formula Three champion Nick Cassidy, Chinese Formula Masters champion James Munro, Porsche Carrera Cup Asia champion Chris van der Drift and V8 Supercars driver Shane van Gisbergen. This year three Kiwis are racing – James Munro (Christchurch), 2015 national Formula Ford champion Taylor Cockerton (Pukekohe) and 2015 Spirit of a Nation TRS feature race winner Brendon Leitch. Munro is having his third shot at winning the TRS championship as is Leitch, while it is Cockerton’s first year in the top category. The international talent they will race against is considerable. Brazilian 17-year-old Pedro Piquet, son of three-time world Formula One champion Nelson (1981, 1983, 1987), is returning to the TRS after contesting the opening rounds in 2014. In the intervening period he has won the Brazilian Formula Three Championship for the last two years and will be using the TRS series as a springboard into the FIA European Formula Three Championship where he will team up with British driver and 2015 TRS graduate Callum Ilott at Van Amersfoort racing.

  • DAMON LEITCH THIRD in TOYOTA RACING SERIES Damon
DAMON LEITCH THIRD IN TOYOTA RACING SERIES Damon Leitch has finished a highly impressive third in the 2014 Toyota Racing Series. Twenty-year-old Leitch from Invercargill, who is now working in Cromwell, had another superb weekend in the final round of the series at Manfeild this weekend snaring a second and a third in the first two races before a problem sent him off the track in the feature race, the New Zealand Grand Prix. However his fast and consistent form throughout the series was good enough to secure third in the classy international field, equalling his effort in the 2012 series. Damon was again on the pace throughout qualifying on a wet track on Saturday morning, recording times good enough for sixth and eighth in the two qualifying sessions. In the first race on Saturday afternoon for the Dan Higgins Memorial Trophy Leitch scored second place behind championship leader Andrew Tang of Singapore after a chargng drive. The result moved Damon into second place in the championship on the same points as UK driver Jann Mardenborough, just 37 points behind Tang. The following morning Leitch was third in a fifteen lap race behind Steijn Schothorst of the Netherlands and Mardenborough in a result that closed up the championship points with Leitch going into final race of the series a very close third behind Tang and Mardenborough. The New Zealand Grand Prix began well for Damon and he climbed from eighth to fourth early in the race, very much in contention. Unfortunately his Post Haste Couriers Toyota received some front suspension damage at a restart and from then on in Damon's words it became "hard work." He battled on but then the gearbox malfunctioned, chopping down two gears which locked up the back of the car, pitching it off the road and out of the race.
