For both the girls and boys, it has been more relaxed than the year before. However, this year, Upper School Dean of Students Pat Normandeau is strictly enforcing the dress code. In my opinion, the student handbook needs to be stricter and reflect the rules that are being administered. The To begin with, there is a lot of gray area for girls. According to the student handbook, leggings are only permitted Pulse Staff when worn underneath a skirt or a dress. Females in the school have worn a “shirt” with leggings, as an alternative to pants, and have broken dress code. In my opinion, the dress code should be clearer on how long and what material this skirt should be. Also, leggings should not be permitted as pants, due to the fact that the original purpose of leggings is to go under a dress Editor-in-Chief or a skirt. Carly Kaplan According to the student handbook, dresses, shorts, and skirts should be of “modest length.” To a vast amount of Junior Editor-in-Chief individuals, the definition of “modest length” is interpreted in different ways. Personally, the handbook should make this Zach Goligoski aspect of the dress code more specific. For example, 1-inch above the knee is an appropriate length for all dresses, shorts and skirts. Marc Catanese In the handbook for the middle school students, the dress code states that the length of these garments should be Sarah Chintz “of finger length.” This description sets a clearer rule for the females of the school to follow. I believe that this is an effective Jovell Forsythe rule for the students to follow. Also, high-cut, low-rise, boot-cut… the list goes on with the different types of waistlines for a pair of pants. Natural waist pants are pants that have no abstraction to them. Thomas Gattuso Alfi Liendo I believe uniforms are a much more efficient alternative for both the boys and girls in the school. It would force students to find other outlets to express who they are. It would leave others to judge on personality, not choice of clothing. Seth Lyons Rest assured, the teachers who give out dress code violations do not enjoy looking at legs and necks all day. Instead of hav- Paul Nachtwey ing to worry about what we wear, we should be worrying about our grades. Adam Penino Compared to public schools, we should dress more professionally. Students should express their interests through Benjamin Rubin extra-curricular activities, not through how hair is styled or what clothes they wear. As students, we live in a society where Andrew Scherl our physical appearance is perceived to be everything. Altogether, the dress code should be stricter. Such a book would not be a serious one, but a book on the lighter moments that he’s experienced as a headmaster.
