The other Top 8 seeds are: No. 4 Andreas Seppi, No. 5 Pablo Cuevas, No. 6 Juan Monaco, the ’12 title winner, No. 7 Guillermo Garcia-Lopez and No. 8 Fabio Fognini, who won the crown two years ago. Last year’s champion Leonardo Mayer (d. Ferrer) is not defending his title. Day 1 Preview: Day one at the bet-at-home Open in Hamburg features four singles matches and two doubles matches. Players in singles action include the German wildcard Florian Mayer, former World No. 9 Nicolas Almagro and all four qualifiers. In doubles the top seeds Simon Bolelli / Fabio Fognini square off against the Spanish wildcard tandem of Jaume Munar / Rafael Nadal. Nadal Top Seed: World No. 10 and 2008 champion Rafael Nadal accepted a wild card into Hamburg and he is making his fourth tournament appearance, the first since capturing the title seven years ago (d. Federer). He also reached the final in ’07 (l. to Federer). Nadal has an 11-2 career record in Hamburg. The 29-year-old Spaniard is playing in his first tournament since falling to Dustin Brown in the 2nd Round at Wimbledon on July 2. His 39-match winning streak at Roland Garros came to an end with his quarter-final loss to Djokovic. Nadal is looking to extend his streak of having won at least one European clay court title every year since 2004 when he captured his maiden ATP World Tour crown in Sopot. Germans in Field: There are three Germans in the main draw (not including qualifiers), led by Philipp Kohlschreiber, who is making his 11th tournament appearance (10-10). His best result was the semi-finals last year (l. to L. Mayer). The last German winner was Michael Stich in 1993.
