DEFENDING CHAMP ROSOL, CINCY SEMI-FINALIST DOLGOPOLOV IN ACTION

 STARS ON STADIUM, YOUNG GUNS ON COURT 2: Day 2 of the Winston-Salem Open on Monday features 10 first-round and four second-round matches, kicking off with defending champion Lukas Rosol versus 2014 Roland Garros semifinalist . Also in action on Stadium Court are former World No. 2 , No. 13 seed and Cincinnati semi-finalist , who opens his Winston-Salem campaign against 19-year-old Australian . Three other teenagers – No. 8 seed Borna Coric, qualifier and Hyeon Chung – are playing Monday on Court 2.

 DEFENDING CHAMPION RETURNS: Last year, Rosol took an unorthodox route to the Winston- Salem Open title. Seeded seventh, he received a first-round bye, second-round retirement (d. Harrison 3-6, 2-1 ret) and quarterfinal walkover (d. Isner). In his three full matches, Rosol needed three sets to beat No. 10 seed Pablo Andujar, No. 9 seed Yen-Hsun Lu and .

 GULBIS SHOWING SIGNS: Rosol’s opponent Gulbis is only 14 months removed from cracking the Top 10 of the Emirates ATP Rankings. But after winning 41 matches last season, the Latvian started 2015 with a 1-11 record and dipped as low as No. 87. Two weeks ago, however, Gulbis qualified and won three main draw matches at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Montréal before falling in three sets to World No. 1 in the quarter-finals. Along the way, Gulbis beat Rosol. Gulbis has a 7-7 match record in the past three months (since May 18).

 HAAS DEBUTING AT 37: Playing in Winston-Salem for the first time is Haas, a entrant who missed more than a year following arthroscopic shoulder surgery. The German returned to the ATP World Tour in June and is 2-5 this season, defeating No. 59-ranked 6-4, 7-5 at Stuttgart and No. 86-ranked at Wimbledon.

 DOLGOPOLOV ARRIVES ON FIRE: Unseeded in Winston-Salem, Dolgopolov made headlines last week in Cincinnati by becoming the first qualifier in 21 years to reach the Western & Southern Open semi-finals. Dolgopolov defeated World No. 6 Tomas Berdych 6-4, 6-2 in the quarter-finals, then was two points from defeating Djokovic before falling 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-2 on Saturday. Two days later, he meets Kokkinakis in a first-round match at the Winston-Salem Open. The No. 1 Ukrainian jumped from No. 66 to No. 39 in the Emirates ATP Rankings after his second semi-final (Nottingham) of the season.
