REIGNING CHAMPION ISTOMIN, BRITISH TRIO HEADLINE CENTRE COURT

 DAY 2 PREVIEW: The remaining 13 first round singles matches and one second round contest are on Monday’s schedule at the Aegon Open Nottingham. Reigning champion and three British players are on Centre Court.

First up is a continuation of Sunday’s match between and , who leads the head-to-head meetings 2-1. Gabashvili, who is up 6-4, 3-3 in the match, has won the last two meetings, in 2008 and 2009 Zagreb.

In the next match on, of Tunisia and meet for the second time. Ward won the previous meeting 8-6 in the fifth set in a tie in 2011. Jaziri is playing in Nottingham for the second straight year.while Ward is looking for his first ATP World Tour win of the season (0-1). Ward’s best Aegon Open result is the quarter-finals in 2010.

In the third match on, Lukas Rosol and British No. 3 square off for the second time. Edmund won the previous meeting in two tie-breaks in Bucharest in April. Rosol is making his Nottingham debut and first main draw appearance on grass this season. Edmund is coming off his second ATP World Tour quarter-final of the season at the Queen’s Club in where he lost to eventual champion . Edmund is a career-high No. 68 in the Emirates ATP Rankings.

In the next match on, reigning champion Istomin and Bosnian Damir Dzumhur play each other for the first time. Istomin, who defeated in last year’s final to become the first Uzbekistani winner on the ATP World Tour, is looking to turn around his 2016 campaign. Istomin comes in with a 4-15 match record on the season and he’s no won back-to-back matches. Dzumhur is putting together his best career year with a 13-13 match record and Top 10 wins over No. 5 (ret.) at ATP Masters 1000 Miami and No. 7 Tomas Berdych at ATP Masters 1000 Monte-Carlo.

In the final match on, the only second round contest of the day features No. 16 seed Ricardas Berankis against British No. 4 Daniel Evans. Berankis won the previous meeting in five sets in a 2010 Davis Cup tie in Lithuania. Last month (on May 23), Berankis became the first Lithuanian-born player to break the Top 50 in the Emirates ATP Rankings. Evans, is one of four Britons in the Top 100 Emirates ATP Rankings at No. 95. Last month on May 9 he reached a career-high No. 86.
