champion Fabio Fognini takes on fellow Italian Andreas Seppi in the first match on Court today. It will be the 8th all-Italian meeting at Roland Garros in the Open Era and the 16th all-Italian clash at the Grand Slams in the Open Era. The pair are tied at 4 wins apiece in their previous Tour-level match-ups, but Seppi has not beaten his compatriot and teammate since 2010 and will have to put in an inspired performance if he is to defeat to the No. 9 seed here today.

• History will be made in the 2nd match on Court 6, when 40-year-old Ivo Karlovic faces 37-year-old Feliciano Lopez in the oldest men’s match-up at Roland Garros – in terms of combined age – in the Open Era. It will also become the 7th oldest men’s match-up in terms of combined age at a in the Open Era. Karlovic is the first 40- year-old to compete in the men’s singles at a Grand Slam since at the 1992 US Open. This is the 12th meeting between an Argentinian and Chilean in the men’s singles at Roland Garros in the Open Era – but just the 2nd since 1986, after ’s defeated Chile’s in the 1st round here in 2009. Argentinian players lead Chilean players 9-2 in their previous meetings here.

This is also the 31st meeting between an Argentinian and Chilean in the men’s singles at a Grand Slam in the Open Era. Argentinian players lead Chilean players 19-11 in their previous Grand Slam meetings.
