Appendix III – BlackBerry FAQs

Q1. How do I identify the operating system (OS) on my BlackBerry? A. Go to Options>About On about the third line you will see something like this: v4.6.1.290 (Platform 4.2.0.124)

Q2. How can I upgrade the operating system (OS) on my BlackBerry? A. To upgrade your OS it is recommended that you contact your service provider.

Q3. I was prompted with an Application Permissions message stating “The application EY eBook updater has requested a http connection to www.knotia.ca.” Should I allow the connection? A. Yes.

Q4. How can I tell if I have an SD card in my BlackBerry? A. Go to Options>Memory>Media Card>Total Space OR Options>Media Card>No media card present

Q5. Where do I find the website page: My downloads: eBooks? A. From the Subscriptions area on your home page or from the Subscriptions tab, you will see a section titled Downloads: eBooks. Click on any of the titles below this heading to get to the My downloads: eBooks page, which lists all eBook titles to which you have access.

Q6. When I change my email address for the one-click BlackBerry install from the My downloads: eBooks page, does that change my login email address? A. Changing the default email address displayed in the one-click BlackBerry install dialogue to your BlackBerry email address does not change your login email address. This only allows you to receive the one-click install email directly on your BlackBerry device.

Q7. I used the one-click BlackBerry install and was interrupted before I could complete the process. How do I find this application on my BlackBerry to complete the install? A. With a typical one-click install, the “EY eBook updater” application will delete itself at the end of the process as long as you select REBOOT NOW when prompted. If you are interrupted — for example, by being prompted to replace the EY eBook updater, or if you did not reboot your BlackBerry at the end of the last install — you will need to find the EY eBook updater application on your BlackBerry and click on it. Depending on the device, you will find this icon in either your BlackBerry Downloads folder or on your BlackBerry desktop:

EY eBook Updater

Q8. How do I find Mobipocket Reader on my BlackBerry? A. Depending on the device, Mobipocket Reader is either located in your BlackBerry Downloads folder or on your BlackBerry desktop. The Mobipocket Reader icon looks like this:

Mobipocket Reader

Q9. How do I remove Mobipocket Reader from my BlackBerry? A. To remove the Mobipocket Reader software from your BlackBerry: Bold 9700 (with trackpad) / Bold 9000 (with trackball): • Open your BlackBerry Downloads folder and highlight Mobipocket Reader • Click the menu button (to the left of the trackball) • Click Delete and confirm you wish to delete • Your BlackBerry will require rebooting World Edition 8830 (with trackball) / Curve 8300 (with trackball): • Go to your BlackBerry Options (the icon looks like a wrench) • Click Advanced Options link • Click Applications link • Scroll down and select Mobipocket Reader • Click the menu button (to the left of the trackball) • Click Delete and confirm you wish to delete • Your BlackBerry will require rebooting

Q10. Why can’t I copy the mobi file to my Removable Disk drive when I connect to my computer? A. If your BlackBerry is connected to your computer with a USB cable and you cannot access the Removable Disk drive from Windows Explorer, it is most likely because mass storage is not turned on for the SD memory card on your BlackBerry. Follow these instructions to turn on mass storage for your BlackBerry: Bold 9700 (with trackpad) / Bold 9000 (with trackball) • Open your BlackBerry Options folder • Click Memory link • Select Mass Storage Mode Support: On • Select Auto Enable Mass Storage Mode When Connected: Yes World Edition 8830 (with trackball) / Curve 8300 (with trackball) • Open your BlackBerry Options folder • Click Media Card link • Select Mass Storage Mode Support: On • Select Auto Enable Mass Storage Mode When Connected: Yes

Q11. I downloaded the Mobipocket Reader software on my BlackBerry and am now trying to save the mobi file to my E: drive. Why can’t I see the eBooks folder? A. When you installed Mobipocket Reader to your BlackBerry, you were prompted to allow certain actions. If you did not click Yes to grant application permissions and Yes to turn on mass storage, you will need to re-run the application to complete the installation process and create the eBooks folder in your E: drive. View the instructions above under Install Mobipocket Reader to BlackBerry. Q12. When I save the mobi file and click on my removable disk folder I get a message asking me to "Please insert a disk into drive E:." A. The BlackBerry has timed out (i.e., it was already attached to your computer for recharging and had not used been used for more than 30 minutes). As a result, the mass storage was disabled. • To reactivate your mass storage you must disconnect your BlackBerry from the USB port and then reconnect it. • After you are reconnected, you will be prompted for your mass storage password. • You will now be able to access your E: drive and successfully save the mobi file.

Q13. Why can’t I see my device listed as a drive when I connect to my computer? A. If your BlackBerry or other device does not show up as a drive when connected to your computer with a USB cable, you most likely need to select a new drive letter. Follow these instructions to change drive: • Connect your BlackBerry or other device to your computer with USB cable • From your computer desk top, right click on My Computer • Click Manage>Disk management • Your device should display on the top right box; right click on the device name • Select Change Drive Letters and Paths …, then Change to a drive letter not currently in use

Q14. Can I archive older versions of eBooks? A. Yes. Just save them to a separate folder (and name them in a logical fashion – for example, “FITA-June2010.mobi”). Remember to remove them from your BlackBerry when installing the latest version (see below).

Q15. How do I remove older versions of eBooks on my BlackBerry? A. To remove older versions of the eBook from Mobipocket Reader on your BlackBerry: • Disconnect your BlackBerry from your computer • Launch Mobipocket Reader • Highlight the eBook you want to delete • Click the menu button (to the left of the trackball) • Click Delete

Q16. I have two versions of the same eBook in my Mobipocket Reader. Which one do I need? A. You probably installed the eBook in two different ways (using the download mobi link and using the one-click BlackBerry install). Connect your BlackBerry to your computer with a USB cable and open the Removable Disk drive folder to determine which file ( “mobi” or “mobi.rem”) has a more current modified date, and delete the older version.

Alternatively, it may be easier to delete both files and start over. To avoid this problem in the future, be consistent in your method of installing the eBook.

Q17. When I open the eBook in Mobipocket Reader it takes me to the last page I accessed. A. Mobipocket Reader always opens an eBook to the last “page” viewed. Click the "t" key to go to the top of the book.

Q18. How can I move from one linked item to the next? A. You should always scroll up or down, as only this method allows you to move from one linked item to the next. You can also use the "n" key to take you to the next link on the page.

Q19. I am having difficulty scrolling — how can I change my BlackBerry trackball’s sensitivity? A. To adjust your BlackBerry trackball/pad's sensitivity: • Go to your BlackBerry Options (the icon looks like a wrench) • Click Screen/Keyboard link • Scroll down to Trackpad/Trackball • Set Horizontal Sensitivity and Vertical Sensitivity to 60
