  • South Shaganappi Study Report
Item #7.2 Transportation Report to ISC: UNRESTRICTED SPC on Transportation and Transit TT2018-0822 2018 July 19 Page 1 of 8 South Shaganappi Study Report EXECUTIVE SUMMARY This report provides a summary of the South Shaganappi Study which includes the 16 Avenue N and Shaganappi Trail interchange, the Shaganappi Trail and Memorial Drive intersection and Memorial Drive and Bowness Road interchange. The study was warranted by the re-classification of Shaganappi Trail south of Crowchild Trail N from a Skeletal Road to an Arterial Street in the 2009 Calgary Transportation Plan (CTP). The primary focus of Corridor Studies is to generate concepts that can be potentially implemented in 20 to 30 years and beyond. Developing concepts for infrastructure ahead of time helps to ensure land is protected for future infrastructure if needed or releasing land if not required. Having an approved concept also helps to achieve a land use vision for the area that complements the transportation vision. The South Shaganappi Study has incorporated public engagement as a critical part of the study, following the Corridor Study Policy approved by Council in 2014. Working with residents of adjacent communities, local community associations, and key stakeholders, the study team has developed short-term and long-term concept plans for transportation infrastructure in the study area. Concepts including a do-nothing option, a tight diamond interchange, a hybrid version with signals, an east-west couplet configuration, and at-grade intersections were evaluated for the long-term scenario. The Tight Urban Diamond interchange emerged as the preferred concept based on stakeholder input, safety, access and connectivity, multi-modal transportation, efficient traffic flow, land enhancement and financial capacity.

Acta Facultatis Educationis Physicae Universitatis Comenianae Vol. 57 No 1 2017 RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN UPPER BODY STRENGTH AND PERFORMANCE AT CANOE FREESTYLE Nina Csonková, Dušan Kutlík Department of Outdoor sports and Swimming, Faculty of Physical Education and Sport, Comenius University in Bratislava SUMMARY: Performance in all canoe disciplines is based on the physical condition of the paddler and his technique and mental ability to adapt to the racing condition. The strength belongs to the most important physical factors in canoe sprint and canoe slalom disciplines. We believed that in canoe freestyle the strength has an important role in relation to the performance in comparison to other canoe disciplines. The aim of this study was to identify the relationship between upper body strength and special canoe freestyle performance. The study group consisted of 16 senior kayak freestyle paddlers in the age group 26 ± 3 years old. Fitro Dyne Premium was device used to obtain data for analysis of the level of general upper body strength abilities. To determine special upper body strength we used tests on paddle machine and freestyle kayaking flat water tests. Freestyle performance was measured during ECA Euro Cup 2013 competition in Slovakia, Čunovo by official ICF judges. The data obtained were measured by the Spearman Correlation (r) correlation test. The results of the study show significant relations between kayak freestyle performance and test of general strength endurance (p < 0.05), special strength endurance, special dynamic strength (p < 0.01). There were no statistically significant correlations between kayak freestyle performance and general maximal power, dynamic strength, special maximal power.

Escalante only runs for a few weeks of the year so like ev ery boater in the state we made the pilgrimage out there on Easter Sunday for some cold dirty desert creeking. It was pouring rain in Durango when we left and a full on blizzard on the passes. When we arrived we found some guys waiting at the take out for a shuttle and ended up running the creek with them. It was my first time down the creek but went Whitewater of the Southern Rockies - smoothly. We hit it at a medium lev el so it was mostly class three and The New Bible 2 four with a few fives in the lower gorge. Lots of fun boofs and some amazing granite gorges. I wish I could have run it again. When the snow starts melting next year, I know where I’ll be! • September 2012 Newsletter of the Blue Ridge Voyageurs the VOYAGEUR
PAGE 1 September 2012 Newsletter of the Blue Ridge Voyageurs THE VOYAGEUR www.BlueRidgeVoyageurs.org September 2012 THE PRESIDENT’S PUT-IN As summer winds down, I look back at an interesting year as far as our club meetings have gone. We have had some unusual and interesting speakers, most notable I think was the presentation by Natalie Warren. She and her friend Ann Raiho paddled by canoe to Hudson’s Bay from Minnesota, a very entertaining story ac- companied with excellent visual imagery from their trip. Now for the next installment of unusual meeting events, we will have VP Mark Wray’s scout troop describing their adventures on the New River this past summer. It will be another youthful view of our favored pastime, should be a memorable meeting. The annual Moonlight Picnic was again a great success although at one point there was some anxiety about the whereabouts of the chicken! We were all (except for Mark Wray) safely planted on one of the sand is- lands in the river swilling various chilled adult beverages and narfing snacks. Therefore, the potential peril was somewhat tempered, but some concern was still voiced when there was no sign of Mark and the chicken. “We never should have left him alone “ it was declared, “he has the chicken!“ “Yes, Yes, the chicken!“ the call was repeated. Finally in the failing light an aluminum form was spotted ap- proaching from upriver and a great sigh of relief swept the crowd. “Thank God the chicken is here at last !” Mark had gotten tangled up in the submarine jungle that now infests the river these days.
