Abstract United Airlines, under contract with NASA Ames Research Center, has developed and evaluated a two-segment noise abatement approach procedure for use on Boeing 727 aircraft in air carrier service. In a flight simulator, the two-segment approach was studied in detail and a profile and procedures were developed. Equipment adaptable to contemporary avionics and navigation systems was designed and manufactured by Collins Radio Company and was installed and evaluated in two different B-727-200 aircraft. The equipment, profile, and procedures were evaluated out of revenue service by pilots representing government agencies, airlines, airframe manufac- turers, and professional pilot associations.

  • Welcome to Air Cargo News 35Th Anniversary Issue
To Our Readers, The way that we celebrate 35 years is to bring back all the stories and people that have populated these pages for another turn, along with newly discovered friends and colleagues. We were once a local newspaper published for the cargo people in the United States. In 1975, we were the only monthly Air Cargo News newspaper in the world. Today, as Air Cargo News FlyingTypers, we are once again alone as the oldest (and still the only E- mailed), thrice weekly, 140 issues-a-year air cargo news source. “I don’t know how you do it—to publish so often and with so much content,” is a comment we often hear. Air Cargo News FlyingTypers does it because throughout our history we have worked to forge a bond of trust between our readers and ourselves. Today we are the number one news and features air cargo publication on the planet in terms of every known metric. When someone says I read it in FlyingTypers—believe it. From our readers has come the juice that powers our desire to continue to serve air cargo. The good news is that 35 years after beginning this journey into air cargo, we are still around and Geoffrey Arend and Sabiha Arend at the remain young in our thinking with the involvement of a next generation of Air Cargo News FlyingTyp- National Historic Trust in May 1986. ers. Of course, nothing is for certain and anything can happen, but our plan is to continue as a close- to-the-industry family business, just as we have always been.

FINAL FINAL SUPPLEMENTAL ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT FOR AMENDMENT TO THE OPERATIONS SPECIFICATIONS FOR AIR CARRIER OPERATIONS AND AMENDMENT TO A PART 139 AIRPORT OPERATING CERTIFICATE Snohomish County Airport/Paine Field Everett, Washington Prepared for: ALASKA AIRLINES and UNITED AIRLINES INC. and U.S. DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION As lead Federal Agency pursuant to the National Environmental Policy Act Prepared by: Environmental Science Associates February 2019 This Environmental Assessment becomes a Federal document when evaluated, signed and dated by the Responsible FAA Official. _______________________________ February 15, 2019 Responsible FAA Official Date ERRATA Summary of Changes In early November 2018, after publication of the Draft Supplemental Environmental Assessment (EA) in September 2018 and the subsequent Public Information Workshop/Public Hearing in October 2018, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) was informed that Southwest Airlines had withdrawn its proposal to operate at Paine Field. Southwest Airlines stated that business considerations resulted in its decision to not commence service to Paine Field. The five flights formerly proposed by Southwest Airlines (i.e., “gate allocations”) were acquired by Alaska Airlines in early November 2018. The current proposals by Alaska Airlines and United Airlines (and their partners, Horizon Air and SkyWest Airlines) evaluated in this Final Supplemental EA reflect the same combined gate allocations, which result in the same number of total operations as analyzed in the Draft Supplemental EA that was circulated for public review. While the number of operations in the current Proposed Action remains the same as the Proposed Action1 evaluated in the public Draft Supplemental EA, five flights per day will be operated with smaller aircraft (Embraer 175s instead of Boeing 737-700s), which will result in a reduction in passenger enplanements.
