THE APRILIA SUCCESS STORY BORN INTO RACING With 294 Grand Prix races won in Road Racing World Championship, Aprilia holds the record for the most wins of any European manufacturer in the history of maximum motorcycle competition. In December 2004 Aprilia becomes part of the Piaggio Group which, with the reorganisation of the Noale Racing Division, takes the Veneto-based brand to victories in World Championship Motorcycle Racing and broadens the horizons of sport activity: from the return to the off road discipline, world rally to the début – in 2009 – of the Aprilia RSV4 in World Superbike. During the same period Aprilia has also accumulated 28 World Titles and a countless collection of European and national titles. Every weekend, all over the world, Aprilia motorcycles take to the track on international and local circuits, holding high the honour of Italian and European motorcycling, feeding the biker's desire to race and raising up young riders destined to enter into the world championship world. 60s and 70s Aprilia begins manufacturing motorcycles at the end of the 60's and already in 1970 produces a motocross "fifty" which would evolve into a 125, until arriving at the first competition motocross bike in the mid 70's. ALEX RINS PROFILE Alex Rins lex Rins was born on December 8th, 1995 in Barcelona, Spain to Rafael and Victoria. His first contact with the world of motorsport occurred very early in his Álife, as is so often the case with riders in World Championship racing! The first time he had a go on a motorised machine, Álex was only three. It was in 1998, when he was able to ride a quad that he had been given as a present. It was only his first try, but it would leave a significant and permanent mark on him. Three years later, in 2001, a couple of friends of his father, Rafa, encouraged him to put Álex on a motorcycle just as a test. Rafa put his son on a Lem when he was four, and it seems that experience changed the rest of his life. It was enough to make him finally park the quad and start to dream of owning his own bike. Because of his insistence, Rins fulfilled his dream two years later and his parents ended up buying him a 50cc KTM motocross bike. GROWING UP On the Constantí circuit he nurtured his passion and began to train with his motorcycle. In Moto2 he didn’t let anyone down. In his first year, Álex was more than successful, The following year, in 2003, thanks in great part to Montse Costa, he was able to participate closing the season with the runner-up title and again receiving the Rookie of the Year in the Catalan and Aragonese Championships, obtaining a victory in the latter. -
M1ller Wins 4 Ktm!
2014-03-24 13:09 CET M1LLER WINS 4 KTM! Jack Miller who had a front row start swooped to the front at the start of the race shadowed by Spaniard Alex Marquez. The two riders then settled down to swap the lead back and forth and at one point had a 3.5 second lead on the rest of the pack. Miller who before then race had pledged to be patient and go for the maximum points, played his hand well. Going into the final corners the Australian was perfectly placed to capitalize on a small mistake by rival Marquez. Marquez went wide in the corner, Miller quickly grabbed the advantage and went on to take line honors and pick up maximum points in the opening round. Immediately after the race, an excited Miller said he had gone all out in the final lap. “It was pretty scary going into the final lap because the tires were more worn than I expected them to be. But I just gave it my all. We couldn't have asked for anything better. It was a really good first race. Its a great way to start the season, but its that. Its the start. We still have a long way to go and I still have a lot to learn." Miller’s teammate Karel Hanika, who won his berth in the factory team after taking victory in the 2013 Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup rode a solid race from nineteenth position on the grid to finish in fourteenth place to pick up his first world championship points in his debut race. -
