Canine health issues, education and rescue programs are key priorities of the BSCBAA. Better health of our beloved Boykins, so important to us all, results in them living longer, healthier and stronger lives. For these reasons, the BSCBAA chooses to participates in the Purina Par- ent Club Partnership (PPCP) program.

Purina is the first pet food manufacturer to step forward to financially support National Par- ent Breed Clubs' efforts to raise money to fund canine health studies and more. Joining Purina Pro Club and participating in the Purina Parent Club Partnership Program or PPCP is your chance to help the Boykin Spaniel.

Go right now to www.purinaproclub.com and sign up and select the BSCBAA as the choice for your AKC breed club. After you have established your account, then mail in your circles with the submission form. When you choose to participate, the PPCP Program credits 10% of the value of all valid weight circle points submitted by BSCBAA Pro Club members to our breed club account. For example, for every $100 worth of qualifying weight circle points earned by a Pro Club member, Purina will donate $10 to the BSCBAA. The points can add up quickly, and so can the cash! As an individual, you can also add up points and redeem merchandise in the Purina Store.

There is no cost to you. The PPCP Program works through Purina's loyalty program, the Puri- na Pro Club & Members who specify the BSCBAA as their Parent Breed Club and actively par- ticipate in the Pro Club program will automatically earn funds to be used by the BSCBAA for health studies, rescue and/or educational efforts. To learn more, call 877-776-2582 or visit www.purinaproclub.com . For a pamphlet click here.

Canine Health Foundation Matching Funds

The AKC's Canine Health Foundation has agreed that PPCP-generated funds that are placed by the club in the breeds' Donor Advised Fund (DAF) pool are eligible to be matched up to 100% based on the Foundation's guidelines. That means that more money can be applied toward research on health issues that are specific to Boykins or diseases like hip dysplasia, which im- pact all breeds. We are proud to report that the AKC CHF will match the funds for the BSCBAA, Donor Advised Fund pool. At present, our DAF balance is $2,178.72—let’s work on increasing this number to help our beloved Boykins. For more information visit www.akcchf.org .

Vacuum Cleaner Alert: American Kennel Club Offers Tips to Help Deal with Your Dog's Heavy Shedding

Whether your dog's hair is long or short, finding loose fur all over your house is una- voidable when she is shedding. Regular grooming and plenty of brushing in between If you are interested in saving a will help minimize the stray fur you find, but when shedding gets heavy pet owners Boykin, visit the Boykin Spaniel need to resort to Plan B. To help keep heavy shedding at bay, the American Kennel Rescue - link is below: Club (AKC®) provides the following tips to help make the clean-up easier. http://www.boykinrescue.org/bsr/

Among them: A good brush. There are many different kinds of brushes out there. Use the correct one for your dog's coat and breed. Try different styles to see what works best, and ask your groomer or veterinarian for recommendations. Also, keep a brush by the door to give your dog a quick sweep while you're outside together. Keep the air moist. Run a humidifier when the weather is dry. This can help moisturize your dog's skin and prevent loose fur from traveling too far. Diet is important. What you feed your dog affects her fur. Feed her a high-quality food to keep her skin and coat in good condition. Don't go overboard with bathing. Bathing your dog too much can dry out her coat, which may trigger more shedding. Give her fewer baths to avoid this. Invest in quality equipment. To make your life easier during shedding, keep a variety of lint-rollers avail- able and purchase a pet-quality vacuum to get rid of all the loose fur.
