The Institution of Mechanical Engineers was formed in 1847, the first President was George Stephenson. www.imeche.org

The Institution of Engineering and Technology came into being in 2006. Its origins are the Institution of Electrical Engineers (1871) and the Institution of Incorporated Engineers (1884). The first President of IEE was Carl Wilhelm Siemens in 1872. The IEE took the GGPE under its wings and remains the main contact and support. www.theiet.org
