Appendix 5 Station Descriptions and Technical Overview Stage 2 light rail transit (LRT) stations will follow the same standards, design principles, and connectivity and mobility requirements as Stage 1 Confederation Line. Proponent Teams were instructed, through the guidelines outlined in the Project Agreement (PA), to design stations that will integrate with Stage 1, which include customer facilities, accessibility features, and the ability to support the City’s Transportation Master Plan (TMP) goals for public transit and ridership growth. The station features planned for the Stage 2 LRT Project will be designed and built on these performance standards which include: Barrier-free path of travel to entrances of stations; Accessible fare gates at each entrance, providing easy access for customers using mobility devices or service animals; Tactile wayfinding tiles will trace the accessible route through the fare gates, to elevators, platforms and exits; Transecure waiting areas on the train platform will include accessible benches and tactile/Braille signs indicating the direction of service; Tactile warning strips and inter-car barriers to keep everyone safely away from the platform edge; Audio announcements and visual displays for waiting passengers will precede each train’s arrival on the platform and will describe the direction of travel; Service alerts will be shown visually on the passenger information display monitors and announced audibly on the public-address system; All wayfinding and safety signage will be provided following the applicable accessibility standards (including type size, tactile signage, and appropriate colour contrast); Clear, open sight lines and pedestrian design that make wayfinding simple and intuitive; and, Cycling facilities at all stations including shelter for 80 per cent of the provided spaces, with additional space protected to ensure cycling facilities can be doubled and integrated into the station’s footprint. -

NOTICE OF OPEN HOUSE #1 BARRHAVEN LIGHT RAIL TRANSIT (BASELINE STATION TO BARRHAVEN TOWN CENTRE) AND RAIL GRADE-SEPARATIONS PLANNING AND ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT STUDY (TPAP) Wednessday October 30, 2019 Nepean Sportsplex, Richmond Ballroom Please use entrance #4 1701 Woodroffe Ave 6 to 8:30 pm Presentation 7 pm The City of Ottawa has initiated the Barrhaven Light Rail Transit (Baseline Station to Barrhaven Town Centre) and Rail Grade-Separations Planning and Environmental Assessment (EA) Study to develop a Recommended Plan for extending Light Rail Transit (LRT) from Baseline Station to Barrhaven Town Centre, as well as grade-separations of Woodroffe Avenue, Southwest Transitway and Fallowfield Road where these corridors cross the VIA Rail line. The study area is approximately 10 km in length and illustrated in the key map. The EA study is being conducted in accordance with the Transit Project Assessment Process (TPAP) Ontario Regulation 231/08 in accordance with the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act. The study process will involve developing and evaluating alternatives, leading to a Recommended Plan in consideration of the surrounding environmental (social, natural, physical and economic) conditions. There will be ongoing public consultation activities during the course of the study. This first Open House will provide: • An overview of the study objectives, need and opportunities, existing conditions and study progress to-date • Design options for the LRT alignment from Baseline Station to the Nepean Sportsplex, • A preliminary plan to convert the Southwest Transitway to LRT from the Nepean Sportsplex to Barrhaven Town Centre including rail grade-separations of Woodroffe Avenue, Southwest Transitway and Fallowfield Road, and • Next steps Yo ur participation in the Open House is an important component of the study where you can discuss the project with the study team and provide feedback. -

Ottawa 2017 is going to be a big, bold, immersive and moving experience not to be missed. 3 Written by Charline Cormier-Pellerin ttawa 2017 will feature twelve months of spectacular programming, including fifteen new block- buster events and countless special Canada 150 activities in addition to recurring festivals, events, Oart series, and culture and heritage initiatives. The Ottawa 2017 Bureau, the not-for-profit organiza- tion in charge of planning and promoting these events, wanted to find the right balance between rural and urban programming to offer both large scale blockbuster events and community grassroots activities. The goal of Ottawa 2017 is to position Ottawa as the hub of all celebrations for Canada’s 150th Anniversary of Confederation. “It’s an opportunity to re-position or refresh the image people have of Ottawa,” says Guy Laflamme, executive director of the Ottawa 2017 Bureau. “Overall, we want to inspire young generations. More than celebrating our past and educating people about our history, our focus is for Ottawa 2017 to spark the imagination and ignite our future.” The Ottawa 2017 Bureau has developed a program where it will at times act as producer, co-producer, facilitator or promoter, with everything entirely comple- menting what the Canadian federal government has planned. There are beautiful farms and ravaged riverbanks; decimated forests and landscaped community parks; chemical and nuclear waste oozing toward the river and conscientious children cleaning highways. In Canada, extremes in river levels that prevent the existence of both natural ecologies and human enterprises are caused by dams built primarily to meet US energy needs. Diverse and contradictory possibilities appear for the river region of the future: economic stability, ecological integrity and sustainability if people take seriously their responsibilities for God=s earth; ecological disaster and economic depression if current practices remain unchangedY@1 The above quotation, is taken from a statement by the US and Canadian Catholic Bishops concerning the Columbia River. Entitled The Columbia River Watershed: Realities and Possibilities, it was meant to remind citizens on both sides of the border, that Awe humans do not live alone in the Columbia watershed. We share our habitat with other lives, members of the community of life B what scientists call the biotic community B who relate to us as fellow inhabitants of the watershed, as fellow members of the web of life.@2 This paper is not about the Columbia River, it is about the Ottawa River. (Ottawa) What I found interesting about the first quotation is that you could very easily have applied it to the Ottawa River, as well as many other rivers throughout North America. I intend to examine the Ottawa from the perspective mentioned above, that it is a river that can have a future characterized by economic stability, ecological integrity, and sustainability, if we take seriously our responsibilities as citizens. -

Canadians in the Air, 1914–1919, 1939–1945 Paul Goranson Anchoring the Kite cwm 19710261-3180 Beaverbrook Collection of War Art Canadian War Museum warmuseum.ca/learn Canadians in the Air 1 Canadians in the Air, 1914–1919, 1939–1945 Introduction Large-scale military aviation began with the First World War, not long after the 1909 flight of the Silver Dart marked the start of aviation in Canada. As no Canadian Air Force yet existed, thousands of Canadians fought the First World War in British flying units. Canadians first served with the Royal Flying Corps (rfc) or with the Royal Naval Air Service (rnas). These two services amalgamated on 1 April 1918 into the Royal Air Force (raf). In total, an estimated 13,000–22,000 individuals from Canada joined the British flying services. In 1924, the Royal Canadian Air Force (rcaf) was created. With the outbreak of war in September 1939, the rcaf was able to draw on an existing cadre of officers and airmen and also attracted experienced personnel from private enterprise. By 1945, close to 250,000 men and women had served in the rcaf at home and abroad. This guide will illustrate the process of researching an individual’s service, from the essential starting point of service documents to supporting resources for detail and further discovery.
