Logistics story Dear readers 14 What you are holding right now is the second edition of our new magazine, LOGISTICS PILOT. The idea of intensifying cooperation between the German ports under the brand “German Ports” using a printed specialist magazine as well as joint trade fair appearances (an idea that has been driven forward with much consensus along ’s coastline – and not just within the political sphere) is the common aim of the existing cooperation partners from Bremen and . As the issuer of the magazine, we are continuing to work towards even closer cooperation between all of the German ports, and we hope to be able to extend the group of cooperation partners to the entire northern German coast in the short or long term. The concept of cooperation is, and remains, a topical one – not only in the field of location marketing, but also in terms of hinterland connections and infrastructure, which is our focus topic in this edition. The main competitors for the northern German seaports are in western Europe. Sustainability For this reason, it is important for ports to not just work to improve their own position, but to help strengthen 16 Germany as a location, and to work together in the political arena to fight for more investment in hinterland , , connections for all ports, so that all of the German seaports remain efficient and competitive – to the benefit of the entire German economy! I hope you enjoy reading!

Long-winded planning processes

Long process times are exacerbating the problem. Nowadays, an increasing number of people are making use of their right to have a say when it comes to the construction of new roads or the deepening of rivers. Environmental matters and Euro- pean law are also constantly gaining significance. Paying fair consideration to all interests whilst simultaneously ensuring rapid implementation of key projects is one of the greatest challenges for society.
