MADD JOKER Resume ~ Bio ~ Press Ki! 2012 " 1 MADD JOKER Activist/Lyricist/Recording and Performing Artist/Actor Biography Madd Joker, born, in Livingston New Jersey as Jeffrey Scott Knoll, became a lyricist in 1992. As youth Madd Joker was a huge fan of Hip-Hop and Reggae music. His influences include such artists like, RUN-DMC, The Beastie Boys, Krs-One,Public Enemy, King Yellowman, Brigadier Jerry, Toyan among others. Especially interested in the social and political awareness that both of these genres of music car- ried within their lyrical content, and being the offspring of two parents who fought for civil rights in the 1960's, Madd Joker was hooked on the music and culture. At the age of 19, Madd Joker began recording and performing throughout the city of San Diego, California. His career on the mic began under the tutelage of two producers, Professor Most, and King Jahzzy. Professor Most was the first producer to work with Joker, but it was King Jahzzy with whom he would obtain the majority of his development and maturity. Madd Joker joined a Reggae Sound system called REVELATION INTERNATIONAL in early 1992-1993, and began to nurture his talent for writing lyrics, recording music, as well as performing in front of live audiences. Madd Joker earned his stripes by doing several important things as an upcoming artist in San Diego: Madd Joker did free performances, recordings and collaborations, enrolled in collegiate music business classes, purchased his own recording equipment, invested college his scholarship, and any other capital he that he could acquire into his career. This not only accelerated his development as an artist it also enlightened him on the details of the music industry. In 1998 Joker released his first 12" single on vinyl: GOTHAM TAKEOVER b/w REBUKE DEM PLAN (feat. Mazin' Feats), was released it on the independent record label, KULCHA RECORDS, the first label with whom Madd Joker signed. Shortly after that, MJ released DEATH INNA DE ARENA, a full- length album (CD) that won him the best Hip-Hop album of the year at the San Diego SLAMM MUSIC AWARDS in 2000. Madd Joker distributed this album on an independent level, and with help and guidance from a few of his mentors, he was able to create a respectable buzz within the underground Hip-Hop community on both local and worldwide levels. After Madd Joker released independently released his first album, he went on to release another 12" sin- gle (vinyl) off of DEATH INNA DE ARENA, in addition to another couple of 12" vinyl pieces from his second full length album entitled SHOOTOUT IN THE CAPITOL in 2004. All of these projects were " 2 released under his original label KULCHA RECORDS and were promoted and distributed independently as well. Joker’s background as a reggae and hip hop fan laid the foundation for him to develop a style and sound that is unique, entertaining and engaging to the masses. Madd Joker's music contains a message that promotes social consciousness and seeks to expose the ongoing social and political injustices throughout the world. Madd Joker views him- self as a crusader against the mainstream way of thought manipulated by corporate interests. In today's Hip-Hop and reggae music and cul- ture, Madd Joker has proven himself to be an electrifying artist both in the booth and on the largest of stages.
