Aqua Hotels & Resorts, a full-service hotel management company with 16 unique hotels in Hawai‘i announced that three of its Waikīkī properties were named on two “Best” lists by Oyster Hotel Reviews (www.oyster.com), a relatively new online review site, in their recent evaluations of 49 O‘ahu hotels.

According to www.oyster.com‘s website, “Oyster Hotel Reviews is the first and only company dedicated to publishing objective, in-depth reviews, written by trained journalists, of the world's hotels. Oyster Hotel Reviews adheres to the highest editorial standards; it does not accept compensation or incentives from hotels, and pays for all travel expenses. “We are elated by the oyster.com reviews and ratings,” said Elizabeth Churchill, Aqua’s VP Sales & Marketing. “We pride ourselves in having great product, great service and very competitive rates in Waikīkī. As for Best Western Coconut Waikiki Hotel (photos below), it’s been a great year for the property and kudos go to general manager Alvida Surpia-Jones and her staff. Besides being rated the #1 hotel on TripAdvisor since May 2009, the hotel just won the prestigious Best Western Chairman’s Award for ranking in the top 5% of all 2400 hotels in the Best Western worldwide system.”

Links to Literacy Golf Tournament raises $150,000 for the Friends of The Library of Hawai‘i

New co-title sponsorship between Marriott Resorts Hawaii and Ko Olina Resort & Marina

The 16th Annual Links to Literacy Golf Tournament: A Benefit for the Friends of the Library of Hawaii collected funds totaling $150,000 on September 25, 2009. Approximately 216 golfers participated in this year’s sold-out tournament, held at Ko Olina Golf Club.

"We truly appreciate the sponsors and individuals who donated their time and money to support our 51 public libraries in Hawaii," said Byrde Cestare, executive director for the Friends of the Library of Hawaii. "Thanks to our new title sponsor partnership between Marriott International in Hawaii (Marriott Resorts Hawaii and Marriott Vacation Club) and Ko Olina Resort & Marina, in addition to all of our sponsors, this annual event continues to be a success. We are grateful for those who continue to assist in raising funds for our communities, helping us fulfill our mission to promote literacy and education.”

“We deeply respect the excellent work done by the Friends of the Library of Hawaii, and are pleased to partner with Ko Olina Resort & Marina for this event," said Ed Hubennette, vice president for North Asia, Hawaii and South Pacific, Marriott International. “It’s a pleasure to show our support each year for such a noteworthy cause through Marriott’s Spirit to Serve program.”

“We are honored to support the work of the Friends of the Library of Hawaii. Their commitment to promoting literacy and improving the lives of many of Hawaii’s families is a passion that we share. Our Ko Olina Charities’ programs were created to support the education of West Oahu residents – the Links to Literacy event is a perfect complement,” said Jeff Stone, developer of Ko Olina Resort & Marina.

At the tournament, 72 three-player teams competed on the course and 16 randomly selected players also tried their luck at the “Million Dollar Hole-In-One Shootout.” No one made the hole-in-one.

Funds were also raised through a silent auction, held at JW Marriott Ihilani Resort & Spa immediately following the tournament. Auction items included vacation getaways to the neighbor islands, Australia, Japan, Korea and Canada, dining certificates and more.

“One hundred volunteers helped us to make this fundraiser a success,” said Alan Yamamoto, the tournament’s chairman. “Volunteers contributed in all aspects, from being on the golf course to running the silent auction. Others solicited sponsor donations and invited their friends and co-workers to play in the tournament. Without their dedication and support, this event would not have been possible.”

Net proceeds from Links to Literacy advance the Friends of the Library of Hawaii’s mission to support and promote the Hawaii State Public Library System by encouraging reading, literacy and lifelong learning. The organization raises funds to supplement public library programs not covered by the state budget.

In Quest of the Best TOTO began its journey toward the creation the NEOREST suite of intelligent products in 1988 when it undertook the development of a new toilet that would represent the pinnacle of achievement in every design category:

Technology Innovation Personal Cleansing Flushing Systems Aesthetics Water Efficiency Easy Maintenance

Released in Japan to celebrate TOTO’s 75th or Diamond Anniversary in 1992, the company continued to refine the NEOREST integrated toilet, and, in 2003, introduced the NEOREST 600 to the US market. In 2006, the company completed the NEOREST collection with the introduction of a suite of products each of which represents an unparalleled feat of design and engineering prowess:

Designed to bring back the art of the bath, the NEOREST Airbath is intended to be enjoyed by two with padded neck rests and cascading water to gently warm and soothe their upper body; its LCD control panel remembers and carries out guests’ every command and keeps them from being lonely by vocalizing their commands. Champagne bubble massage and chromo-color therapy round out this revitalizing experience.

Exemplifying the art of simplicity and function, the NEOREST Shower Tower is one simple, graceful line that rises from wall to overhead and offers three perfect ways for Orchid Suite guests to envelop their bodies in tranquil warmth -- relaxing overhead rain shower, hand shower, and full body sprays, all the while remembering their preferred water temperature,

The first toilet of the 21st century, the auto-aware NEOREST 600 responds to guests by opening its lid when they approach -- when they leave, it automatically closes and flushes. Its integrated personal cleansing system brings the ultimate in cleanliness and comfort to their fingertips via remote control.

With an integrated automatic sensor faucet, the NEOREST Lavatory greets guests by releasing their preferred temperature of silk-like cascading water flow when they approach. The design lines of the unique lavatory were created to imitate the flow of water as it cascades from the faucet.

No detail is insignificant when it comes to creating the most luxurious experience - in style or substance. That’s why every NEOREST Accessory, down to the smallest robe hook, echoes the NEOREST design philosophy.

The Premier Suites at Halekulani, featuring the new Orchid Suite, offers guests an extraordinary arts and cultural program called For You Everything and Art in Motion. The bronze statue of Ka'iulani was created by artist/sculptor Jan Gordon Fisher and was formally dedicated to the people of Hawaii and Waikiki on October 16, 1999. It stands 7.5 feet tall and weighs 800 pounds. The princess is featured wearing a Victorian dress and a lei of her favorite flower, the pikake (Chinese jasmine). Ka'iulani, who adored peacocks, is shown feeding a peacock at her feet.

Princess Ka'iulani was born in 1875 to Princess Miriam , the sister of King Kalakaua and Queen Liliuokalani, and Gov. Archibald Scott Cleghorn. She was the only child born to the last ruling dynasty of the . During the 19th century, Ka'iulani and her parents acquired 12 acres of land in the vicinity of where the OHANA East Hotel now stands in Waikiki. After the overthrow of the Hawaiian monarchy, Ka'iulani returned to Hawaii from her schooling in Europe and fought for the return of the throne to her aunt, Liliuokalani. Distraught over the loss of the kingdom, Ka'iulani visited with friends on the Big Island of Hawaii. After riding her horse in a rainstorm, Ka'iulani took ill and never fully recovered. The princess died on March 6, 1899, at the age of 23.

This event is sponsored by the OHANA East Hotel as part of Outrigger’s ongoing commitment to preserving and sharing our islands’ contemporary and ancient culture.
