2011 Nov. Kurnool District BREAD SOCIETY: KURNOOL DISTRICT TOUR PROGRAM FOR inaugurating THE BREAD LIBRARIES FROM 14TH NOV. TO 16TH NOV 2011 As one of the responsible Dist Coordinator of the prestigious BREAD society, I have planned to go round the Kurnool District to inaugurate the BREAD libraries in 13 places on the nice occasion of children’s’ Day and Libraries week. 1. ZPH GONEGANDLA: On 14th Nov, along with one of the members of our society, Mr. V. Venkata Reddy, I started my tour from Kurnool at 7.30 AM towards west side of Kurnool District. Our first place of visit is ZPH School, Gonegandla, a Mandal headquarters and reached the place by 9AM. It 60 KM away from Kurnool Dist. Head quarters. On the same day, RACHCHA BANDA program is being organized in the campus of the school. The School Head Mistress Smt. Gresamma along with her staff received us with great honour as BREAD representatives. They invited all the press people library inauguration. After that during their school prayer time, the HM introduced us to the students and staff and invited me to hoist the National flag as the chief guest of the day. I have also addressed the students at their prayer time. It was a good experience for us. They have appreciated the services of BREAD society. School: ZPH School Place: GONEGANDLA 1. Staff in Nos: 32 teachers School strength : 1398 Boys and Girls Track Record of 10th Class results: 2009-10 56% Above 500 Marks 5 ranks 2010-11 63% -do- 12 ranks Students are participating in Zonal & State level Sports events 2. MS EM ZPH SCHOOL( MACHANI SOMAPPA ENGLISH MEDIUM ): YEMMIGANUR The next school at Yemmiganur, which is 20 KM from Gonegandla. As we entered the school premises, the HM and the correspondent in charge and staff, have received us great honour in beautiful English words. All the staff speaking fluent English. All the staff have participated in inaugurating the BREAD library. They felt very happy with the help of our society. They have even put forwarded the following suggestion for our future betterment. Suggestions: 1. English medium books may be added. 2. For teachers, there is a dire need to improve their teaching skills and abilities. They requested our BOD through us to provide books on teaching skils, especially books written by Sri Chukks Ramaiah for primary and high school teachers. They felt that these books are of much important in improving the teaching standards. I think, this is a special point to discuss during our BOD meeting. I request the attention of all the BOD members on this point. 3. They have promised to conduct competitions to the students on the eve of coming Republic Day celebrations. Particulars: The School was established in the year 1978 with the initiation of Machani Somappa, a great philanthropist and founder of The Yemmiganur Weavers Association. The town itself originated by this great personality. School Staff: 45 teachers School strength: 750 students 10th Results: 2008-09 94% above 500 marks 20 ranks 2009-10 96% -do 24 ranks 2010-11 92% -do- 28 ranks 3.NMMS ZPH SCHOOL, YEMMIGANUR: The next School in the same town, we have visited. We have been invited by the HM and staff with warm greetings. The school was located in weavers colony, to benefit the children of weavers. We have inaugurated the BREAD library amidst great applaud of all the staff and students. School particulars: Staff: 35 teaching staff without office assistance. As the school strength is more than thousand, they requested to provide more books. 2. They requested complete works of Swamy Vivekananda 3. J. L. Nehru’s Discovery of India 4. Glimpses of world History 5. Books on 20 point program 6. Essays for competitive Exams 4. ZPH SCHOOL (BOYS): KOSIGI The next school at KOSIGI, a village which is 30 KM away from Yemmiganur, a village very remotely located, near to the Karnataka borders. We reached the school at 1.30 PM. The HM was waiting for us to inaugurate the library. As it was lunch hour, no staff member is present. We along with the HM inaugurated the Library. NMMS HIGH SCHOOL: ADONI The next school, which is 30 KM away from Kosigi, and 100 KM away from Kurnool Dist Head quarters. We started our journey, after taking mini lunch from our lunch boxes carried from Kurnool, to Adoni. We reached the place by 3.30 PM. The enthusiastic young teacher –in charge of library and the other staff members have received us and arranged an inauguration in a very nice manner. School Strength: 1365 Boys & Girls Staff members: 20 teachers S.No Year Percentage achieved 1 2008-09 51% 2. 2009-10 59% 3. 2010-11 48% 15-11-2011: Second Day of our tour: Our second day tour taken place towards North east side of Kurnool Dist. We have visited two schools. They are ZPHs , PAMULAPADU AND VEMPENTA of Amtakur Taluq. Of them Pamulapadu is a Mandal head quarters. 1. ZPH SCHOOL PAMULAPADU is located in a green rich campus. It was a first grade campus, accredited for many years continuously. The BREAD library was inaugurated along with HM and enthusiastic young teachers . It was observed that the issue book was maintained in a very good manner. This is the school where, books were issued very regularly and completely. Suggestions. 1. Very important: 36 books were missing as per the supply list of books, which will be sent to this office for you information 2. They requested to provide another issue register as the present one may be completed this year. 3. They requested to provide books for teaching abilities to help the teachers. ZPH SCHOOL- VEMPENTA: The village is located 18 KM away from Pamulapadu. The school is located in the outskirt of m the village. A lady HM Mrs. Kusumavathi is managing very well. All the staff are very cooperative. We have encouraged the HM to cut the ribbon to inaugurate the BREAD library. We have discussed at length about our policies and programs with the staff. English grammar books may be provided 16-11-2011: Third day tour program taken place towards east side of Kurnool District. We covered 3 Schools- .Govt. HIGH SCHOOL, PANYAM; , PANYAM MANDAL; ZP H SCHOOL NANDAVARAM, NANDAVARAM MANDAL; & ZP HIGH SCHOOL, RUDRAVARAM, RUDRAVARAM MANDAL. Mr. K. Vijaya Kumar and Mrs. K.V. Bhavani participated in this tour program along with me. 1. GOVT. HIGH SCHOOL, PANYAM: The school is located along side the State High way, running from Kurnool to thirupathi, at Panyam, which is 55 KM away from Kurnool and 20 KM away from Nandyal, in the mid way from Kurnool to Nandyal. We were there by 10 AM to inaugurate the BREAD library. The library was inaugurated in a formal way, in which HM, staff, students and press people also participated. We have encouraged the HM to cut the ribbon and inaugurate the library. All have appreciated the contribution of BREAD society. The books are being issued very well by the in –charge teacher systematically. Some useful information about the school: The school was established in the year 1952. It was bifurcated from Govt. Junior college in the year 1998. F) ChANDAMAMA & BALA MITHRA monthly books in English & Telugu version may be provided to the students. 2. ZP HIGH SCHOOL, NANDAVARAM: The school is located 20 KM away southwards from Panyam on the way to Banaganapalli. We have been received by the HM and staff with due respect. The BREAD library was inaugurated and the HM cut the ribbon, staff and students participated very enthusiastically. The books are being issued to the students systematically. The famous CHOWDESWARI TEMPLE was in Nandavaram, which is popularly visited by not only the people of Kurnool district but people from surrounding also visit this temple. After inauguration, we also had a Dharshan of the presiding diety. -The library is well maintained by the Librarian in-charge.     10/31/2018 District Irrigation Profiles IRRIGATION PROFILE OF KURNOOL DISTRICT *Click here for Ayacut Map INTRODUCTION Kurnool district with a Population of 40.47 Lakhs lies between latitude 14°-54' North to 16°-11' and longitude 76°-56' East to 78°-25' East. 58.60% of Kurnool District lies in Krishna basin and 41.40% in Pennar Basin. This district is bounded by Tungabhadra and Krishna Rivers and Mahaboob Nagar District in North, Kadapa and Ananthapur Districts on South, Karnataka State on West and Prakasham District in the East. The main rivers flowing in the district are (1) Tungabhadra River which is a tributary to Krishna River (2) Hundri, a tributary to Tungabhadra (3) Kundu River is a major tributary to River Penna. Kurnool is city and the headquarters of Kurnool district in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is also known as the Gateway to Rayalaseema. Kurnool served as the state capital of Andhra (not Andhra Pradesh) from 1 October 1953 to 31 October 1956. As of 2011 census, it is the fifth most populous city, with a population of 424,920. Etymology: The name Kurnool is derived from "Kandanavolu", "the city known as Kandenapalli" or "the city of Kandena". Kandena is a Telugu word; it means grease. The city was also called the city of Skanda or Kumaraswamy (the chief God of Wars) History: Little was known about Kurnool Town before the 11th century. The earliest knowledge of this settlement dates from the 11th century. It has developed as transit place on the southern banks of the river Tungabhadra and was commonly known as 'Kandenavolu'.
