En esta ópera prima, cuatro personajes ventlan sus conductas sexuales como punta de partda de un brillante estudio de la condición humana. El abogado exitoso y egoísta (Gallagher), su esposa frígida (MacDowell), la hermana de ésta (y la amante del primero, San Giacomo) y el amigo aparentemente impotente que registra entrevistas en video (Spader). Interesante comedia que confrma el pulso y la narratva propia del “estlo Lubitsch”. Un amor entre una carterista y un famoso ladrón que toma la identdad de un falso barón será el origen de varias peripecias que contarán con el robo de una cartera con diamantes que generará nuevos amores para el personaje encarnado por Herbert Marshall. Las mujeres toman el control de las situaciones y justamente por este motvo (entre otros más) sería luego una película censurada por el código Hays. Miercoles 27 Lumiere 16.00 / 18.00 / 20.00 hrs. PI, FE EN EL CAOS Pi: Faith in Chaos. EE.UU 1998. Dir. Darren Aronofsky. Guión: Darren Aronofsky. Con: Sean Gullete, Mark Margolis, Ben Shenkman, Pamela Hart, Stephen Pearlman, Samia Shoaib, AJay Naidu, Kristyn Mae-Anne Lao, Lauren Fox. Idioma: inglés. Sub. Color. Dur. 85´. Tiene como protagonista a un genio de las matemátcas tratando de encontrar la clave suprema del universo. Con ataques contnuos de jaqueca, va distorsionando su realidad y su información es codiciada por los corredores de bolsa y los judíos que en esos estudios creen encontrar el nombre de Dios. El flm oscila entre la tensión, el horror y la atmósfera kafiana. Es un trabajo muy personal de su director Aronofsky, en el que su espectador sigue las pistas y se involucra con las dudas del protagonista. Chaplin 18.15 / 20.15 hrs DOCE HOMBRES EN PUGNA 12 Angry Men. EE.UU 1957. Dir. Sidney Lumet. Guión: Reginald Rose. Con: Henry Fonda, Lee J. Cobb, Jack Warden, E.G. Marshall, Martn Balsam, Ed Begley, John Fiedler, Robert Webber, Jack Klugman, George Voskovec, Joseph Sweeney, Edward Binns, Billy Nelson, John Savoca, Rudy Bond, James Kelly. Idioma: ingles. Sub. B&N. Dur. 95´. Once votos contra uno es el resultado de la primera votación que manifesta un jurado estadounidense que trata el caso de un joven presunto homicida. Con el correr de los minutos del flm el personaje encarnado por Henry Fonda tratará de hacer refexionar a los demás miembros del jurado sobre la inocencia del acusado. Lumet realiza un drama punzante con un estupendo guión de Reginald Rose que aborda la complejidad de tratar de ser objetvo, principalmente en este tpo de casos. Jueves 28: Lumiere 15.15 / 17.45 hrs. MACBETH The Tragedy of Macbeth. Reino Unido – EE.UU 1971. Dir. Roman Polanski. Guión: Roman Polanski & Kenneth Tynan (Teatro: William Shakespeare). Con: Jon Finch, Francesca Annis, Martn Shaw, Nicholas Selby, John Stride, Terence Bayler, Stephan Chase, Paul Shelley, Sydney Bromley, Andrew Laurence, Noel Davis, Diane Fletcher. Idioma: inglés. Sub. Color. Dur. 140´. Muy interesante versión de clásico de Shakespeare dirigida por Roman Polanski creando su atmosfera áspera con subjetvismo y gusto por los detalles macabros, principalmente en los momentos claves del texto como el preludio del asesinato de Duncan, las maquinaciones de Macbeth para deshacerse de Baquo o el pasaje onírico previo a la desgracia del ambicioso rey. Valioso guion y muy interesante desde el punto de vista cinematográfco. Jon Finch es el furibundo y perturbador Macbeth. 20.15 hrs SOMBRAS Y NIEBLA Shadows and Fog. EE.UU 1991. Dir. Woody Allen. Guión: Woody Allen. Con Woody Allen, John Malkovich, Mia Farrow, Madonna, Kathy Bates, John Cusack, Jodie Foster, Lily Tomlin, Donald Pleasence, Fred Gwynne, Julie Kavner, Kenneth Mars, Kate Nelligan, Philip Bosco, Robert Joy, Wallace Shawn, Kurtwood Smith, Josef Sommer. Idioma: ingles. Sub. B&N. Dur. 85´. La historia no se ubica aquí en Manhatan ni en épocas contemporáneas, según nos tene acostumbrados Woddy Allen. El comediógrafo se convierte aquí en estlista, sin renunciar a lo primero, inventando una ciudad centroeuropea de preguerra, decorada e iluminada de forma inequívocamente expresionista, donde un asesino nocturno que se parece a Nosferatu comete crímenes similares a los de M., el vampiro negro! Todas las referencias encajan, sin olvidar su parodia Kafiana sobre el hombrecito que va de un lado a otro sin saber a qué grupo pertenece, en una ciudad dominada por la paranoia, con bandos luchando entre sí no se sabe con qué fn. La broma es intencionada y permite otro acto de humor de Allen, cuya inventva sigue siendo inagotable y posee el encanto y la frescura de sus mejores ttulos. Lo que logra aquí, en un alarde cinematográfco, es consustanciar forma y contenido de tal manera que una no tene razón sin el otro, como singular acto de magia que confrma un talento como pocos en el cine de hoy en día. Con: Fay Wray, Robert Armstrong, Bruce Cabot, Noble Johnson, James Flavin, Sam Hardy, Frank Reicher. Idioma: ingles. Sub. B&N. Dur. 100´. Primera adaptación de un clásico de la mano de Merian C . Cooper, quien será enormemente infuenciado por el estlo documental de Robert Flaherty y posteriormente amigo personal. Un grupo de trabajadores cinematográfcos es enviado a flmar a una Isla al este de Sumatra. Ahí encontrarán a una tribu y le encomendarán a una de sus actrices a un ritual: ofrecerla a King Kong, el gigantesco gorila. Viernes 29: Lumiere 16.00 / 18.00 hrs. YO MATE JESSE JAMES I Shot Jesse James. EE.UU 1949. Dir. Samuel Fuller. Guión: Samuel Fuller (Texto: Homer Croy). Con: Preston Foster, Barbara Briton, John Ireland, Reed Hadley, J. Edward Bromberg, Victor Kilian, Tom Tyler, Tommy Noonan, Eddie Dunn, Margia Dean, Byron Foulger, Jeni Le Gon, Barbara Woodell, Phil Pine, Robin Short. Idioma: ingles. Sub. B&N. Dur. 81´. Rodada en 10 días hábiles y con un presupuesto menor a 100.000 dólares, Samuel Fuller nos cuenta la historia de la leyenda de Jesse James pero con un tnte diferente: contada tras los pasos de Bob Ford, asesino y amigo. Será la caída moral del personaje la cuestón fundamental que reivindicará el director en un western serio y claustrofóbico. Será también el puntapié de la relación del cine de Fuller con la prensa, ya que para su realización fue fundamental los puntos de vista narrados en distntas fuentes. 20.00 hrs. CREEPSHOW Idem. Imitando los conocidos comics de terror de la editorial EC de la década de 1950, Stephen King nos narra cinco historias de terror diferentes que saldrán de un comic que un niño tra a la basura. Interesante película para denotar la infuencia de grandes series de formato “antología” como fueron “La Dimensió Desconocida”, “The Outer Limits” y “Tales of Tomorrow”. Chaplin 18.15 / 20.15 hrs POR SENDAS DISTINTAS Manhatan Melodrama. EE.UU 1934. Dir. W.S. Van Dyke. Guión: Oliver H.P. Garret, Joseph L. Mankiewicz (Historia: Arthur Caesar). Con: Clark Gable, William Powell, Myrna Loy, Leo Carrillo, Nat Pendleton, Mickey Rooney. Idioma: inglés. Sub. B&N. Dur. 93´. Dos amigos de la infancia se reencuentran de adultos y mantenen su amistad aunque están en lados opuestos de la ley: uno es un rudo gangster y el otro un prominente fscal, (una trama argumental resusada varias veces). La película mantene un encanto añejo gracias al carísmatco trío de interpretes y a un director de reconocido buen gusto. El flm es recordado, además, pues fue presenciado por el pistolero John Dillenger momentos antes de ser abatdo a balazos a la salida del cine Biograph Theatre en la ciuduad de Chicago.
