This study of one year long was launched to find out major anthropogenic impacts to wetland/reserve. Field visit, direct observation, questionnaire and interview methods were applied. 60% houses' roof, 76% walls were made by Kans. 89% people belong to agriculture, 98% people of the settlements go to the wetland for some purposes - 90% for fire wood, 89% for grass and fodder, Niguro picking 43%, fishing 48.1%, Kans collection 97.83%, for farming 17%, Typha harvesting 55.83%, mud collection 62.67% and shoot collection 33.5%. Each household had kept 5.2 number of cows and 5.1 buffaloes 84% of which let free in the wetland. The main source of energy was firewood, 87%. For the livelihood 98% of local people depended on the wetland. Only 3.11% fisherman used hooks. The farmer used maximum amount of inorganic fertilizers and pesticides. 412 picnic groups /yr arrived. 89% of events of wildlife people conflict were from the side of human. 71% of the owners of domestic buffalo had purposed to the made cross with the wild water buffaloes to improve meat quality in the breed. -

This updated M&E has added/revised/updated targets to systematically align additional earthquake recovery funding added into the award through 8th modification of Hariyo Ban award to WWF to address very unexpected and burning issues, primarily in four Hariyo Ban program districts (Gorkha, Dhading, Rasuwa and Nuwakot) and partly in other districts, due to recent earthquake and associated climatic/environmental challenges. This updated M&E Plan, including its added/revised/updated indicators and targets, will have very good programmatic meaning for the program’s overall performance monitoring process in the future. -
Jhimruk Khola Watershed Health Report
What is a watershed? A watershed is an area of land that contains a common set of streams and rivers that drain into a single larger body of water, such as a river (Figure 1). But watersheds include more than streams and rivers; they also consist of all the people, forests, wildlife, villages, infrastructure, terrain, climate, and agriculture within the landscape. It is important to think about a watershed in its entirety – upstream and downstream – instead of only looking at one element of the watershed. This is because water flows and connects various aspects of a watershed. What happens upstream has an impact on what happens downstream. For example, gravel mining upstream can increase sedimentation for downstream residents. Similarly, water diversions upstream for irrigation can reduce the amount of water available downstream for people and aquatic species. Figure 1: Diagram of a typical watershed The goal of this watershed health assessment is to help people living in the Jhimruk watershed make better decisions, protect and restore the watershed, reduce risks, and create sustainable economic opportunities. This watershed report uses indicators to measure different aspects of a watershed to determine if the landscape is healthy and able to provide ecosystem services to people living in that watershed. The indicators in this report were determined through a combination of local stakeholder use priorities and watershed health as defined in the literature. The health indicators in this report are grouped under larger categories of 1) nature, 2) wealth, and 3) power, each of which explores related aspects of the watershed from that particular viewpoint.
