Selection Criteria The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Humanitarian Recipientss recipients having, in varied and diverse ways, helped to bring about Dr. King's dream of an equal opportunity for all persons to build a better life, regardless of their race, gender, age, religion, sexual orientation, or disability. We especially seek to honor adults, youth, and groups who give freely of themselves, whose good works spring from a generous volunteer spirit. We aspire to honor at least one high school student who exemplifies the legacy of Dr. King and his message with the Dr. Joyce Marie Davis Outstanding Youth Recipients. We are equally interested in those who have blazed a trail before us, whether or not they're active today with the “Honorable Menola Upshaw Lifetime Achievement Recipients.” We also don’t want to forget those that labored among us with their time, talent, and resources, who are no longer with us.
