Brewers Association EXPORT DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM Competition Results 2014 Brussels Beer Challenge The 2014 Brussels Beer Challenge competition winners have been announced. The competition promoted the beer industry in a market that is not only a benchmark for beer but also home to connoisseurs. This was the third year for the competition and drew an impressive field of competitors and judges from around the world. There were 61 judges, who judged over 725 entries in 50 categories from 15 different countries. The USA submitted 177 beers into the competition. Congratulations to the American craft breweries winning 52 awards. Gold: 12, silver: 17 and bronze: 18 awards. American craft breweries also took 5 honorable mentions.     EXPORT DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM Competition Results 2017 Brussels Beer Challenge The Brewers Association Export Development Program (EDP) is designed to promote US Craft Beers in targeted global markets through trade missions, shows and competitions such as the 2017 Brussels Beer Challenge competition. The Brussels Beer Challenge, now in its 6th year, is one of the most recognized beer competitions in the world. During three days, a panel of 80 internationally renowned beer experts judged 1,250 beers from all corners of the world. The participating were subdivided into categories based on origin, typology and style, and are then tasted. At the end of the three tasting days, the best beers in each category are awarded with a gold, silver or bronze medal. Pelletier, seeks registration of the mark ALLAGASH WILD (in standard characters, ALLAGASH disclaimed) for goods identified as “Jellies and jams; Marmalades; Preserved fruits and vegetables,” in International Class 29.1 1 Application Serial No. 85779517, filed on November 14, 2012, based on an allegation of a bona fide intention to use the mark in commerce under Section 1051(b) of the Trademark Act, 15 U.S.C. § 1051(b). Opposition No. 91214028 Opposer, Allagash Brewing Company, has opposed registration of Applicant’s mark on the ground that as used in connection with Applicant’s goods, the mark so resembles Opposer’s previously used and registered mark ALLAGASH for beer, and previously used common law marks ALLAGASH WHITE, ALLAGASH BLACK, ALLAGASH TRIPEL and ALLAGASH CURIEUX for beer, as to be likely to cause confusion under Section 2(d) of the Trademark Act, 15 U.S.C. § 1052(d). By its answer, Applicant denied the salient allegations.2 In addition, Opposer presented argument on the issue of Applicant’s lack of a bona fide intent to use the mark. Implied consent to the trial of an unpleaded issue can be found only where the nonoffering party (1) raised no objection to the introduction of the evidence on the issue, and (2) was fairly apprised that the evidence was being offered in support of the issue.
