Tour Itinerary – ‘Highlights of Andalucia’ 7 days/6 nights Overview The Highlights of Andalucía tour is a centrally based tour that takes you to visit the main Cities of Andalucía, including Granada, Cordoba, Seville, Malaga and Ronda. Our most popular tour, you can add tour extensions should you wish to include additional places in your tour. This tour is for a maximum of seven guests, each with its own tour vehicle and Tour Leader. The travelling times to most Cities are around 1 hour and 1 hour 30 minutes to Seville. For accommodation, you have a choice of staying in our beautiful Villa located in the large Spanish village of Mollina or in one of the hotels in close by Antequera. Day 1: ARRIVAL We collect you in Málaga from the airport, train station or local hotel and, subject to time, we take you to visit the pretty Pueblo Blanco mountain village of Mijas. The Pueblo Blancos are the white villages of Andalucia. Set high above the Costa del Sol with lovely views over the Mediterranean below, you can wander the pretty lanes with colourful trailing geraniums in bright blue pots contrasting against the white walls. Have some lunch in the shady ‘Secret Garden’ of Restaurant/Cafeteria ‘AROMA’ and maybe make some purchases from the craft stores that surround the main Plaza and down the little lanes. The quality of the leather goods in Mijas is exceptionally high. Originally founded by the Tartessians in prehistoric times, the Romans used to mine Marble from the area, calling the village Tamisa before it became a Moorish mining town Mixa which morphed later on into Mijas. -

It was written before Vatican II in order to address the threat to the Church posed by the council. The book makes an excellent case using Church documents and 'Jewish histories', that the conspiracy to corrupt the Church from within has been active for over 2000 years. The long-standing conflict between occult infiltrators and Catholics has largely been ignored by Catholic historians. This is an important corrective. This version was translated from the original German and Spanish editions. Carmen: a preface to the vocal score by Richard Langham Smith URTEXT IN CONTEXT Why a new edition of Carmen, an opera that has surely suffered the fate of its eponymous heroine: it has been done to death? In short, the present edition takes a different slant from other Urtexts primarily because it aims to capture the idea of the opera as a staged spectacle as well as that of a musical text: hence its designation as a ‘Performance Urtext’. Notwithstanding this dual purpose, its approach to the musical text remains founded on the ‘Urtextual’ principles largely established by German editions of the mid- and late-twentieth century, not least by the Urtext publications of Peters Edition, in this case its London operation which has provided the fundamental impetus for producing this new edition. Yet at the root of these German Urtexts is the notion of somehow carrying forward the ‘pure blue flame’ of composer-intention as set down in a final manuscript, or a submitted and proof-read score. Against this notion, however, a fundamental question must be asked: is Opera really like that? In the mounting of an operatic performance, many more people are involved than in the performance of a symphony: the scene- painters; the costume designers; the lighting crew and above all the director, metteur-en- scène or in the case of French opera, the all-important role of the régisseur. There was also the complex infrastructure behind, as it was then (and now): those responsible for the finances; for drumming up press attendance and audiences; producing the programmes and in France particularly, ensuring that the catering is up to scratch and that the restaurants around the venue are ready to serve the pre-performance entrée, the main course in the first interval, and the dessert in the second. -

Tour Extension Itinerary – ‘Western Andalucia’ 3 days/3 nights Overview Our ‘Western Andalucía’ extension takes you to the area of Andalucía near the Portuguese Border, the Cities of Jerez de la Fronter ‘Jerez’, Cadiz, Arcos de la Frontera before returning for a final night in Málaga. Day 1: JEREZ After breakfast we depart for Jerez. Famous for Sherry, Flamenco and Andalucian Horses, Jerez is the 5th largest City in Andalucia. Jerez de la Frontera, or simply Jerez, is most definitely known for its production of Sherry in the Bodegas that dot the City and from the vineyards in the surrounding countryside. Wealthy merchants built palatial mansions in the centre of the City and their Sherry & Brandy Bodegas were established close by. After the fall of the Western Roman Empire, the Vandals and the Visigoths ruled it until the Arabs conquered the area in 711. In the 11th century it briefly became the seat of an independent Taifa. Some years later 'Abdun ibn Muhammad united it with Arcos and ruled both until in 1053 it was annexed to Seville. In the 12th and 13th Centuries, when the Almohads conquered the city, Jerez underwent a period of great development, building its defence system and setting the current street layout of the old town. In 1231 the Battle of Jerez took place within the town's vicinity, Christian troops under the command of Álvaro Pérez de Castro, lord of the House of Castro and grandson of Alfonso VII, King of Castile and León, defeated the troops of the Emir Ibn Hud, despite the numerical superiority of the latter. -
