  • No Happy End for Audi and EKS in Canada
Audi MediaInfo Communications Motorsport Virginia Brusch Tel: +49 841 89-41753 E-mail: [email protected] www.audi -mediacenter.com/en No happy end for Audi and EKS in Canada • Toomas Heikkinen takes fifth place in the Rallycross World Championship • World Champion Ekström retains third place in the overall standings • Ekström: “A good weekend until the semi-final” Trois-Rivières/Neuburg, August 6, 2017 – Toomas Heikkinen continued his streak in the eighth round of FIA World Rallycross Championship in Trois-Rivières by reaching the final in Canada for the fourth time in succession – a record. Any hopes of a podium finish were however destroyed by a slow puncture. The Finn was fifth in the end. Mattias Ekström was forced to retire in the semi-final with clutch problems. In the overall standings, the reigning Rallycross World Champion still holds third – as does EKS in the teams’ classification. In the only overseas race, torrential rain transformed the street circuit into a lake and quagmire on Saturday. Toomas Heikkinen and Mattias Ekström defied the adverse conditions to hold second and fourth place respectively after the first day. “Saturday was a good start, even if we didn’t have the paces of the two Polos of Johan Kristoffersson and Petter Solberg,” said Ekström. “Things also started very well on Sunday in the dry.” The Swede had qualified third for the final races for the best twelve drivers, and started from the front row. A problem with the clutch initially dropped him back, before he had to park his Audi S1 EKS RX quattro on the penultimate lap without drive.

  • News Release 16.10.16 the Force of Petter Strikes Back
News release 16.10.16 The force of Petter strikes back Reigning FIA World Rallycross Champion Petter Solberg turned in a brilliant fight- back weekend to finish World RX of Germany second, ending a tough run for the Norwegian superstar. Despite his trademark 110 per cent approach Solberg hasn’t been on the podium much recently, making today’s second a very welcome result for him and the PSRX team. Solberg, a three-time FIA World Champion, said: “We have waited so long this season to be back on the podium and to make it here after the disappointment in Latvia two weeks ago is unbelievable. That race was our worst result ever and one I never want to repeat. “It is so important for me to thank my amazing team for our win this weekend. I may be the guy driving the car, but the car was so fast this weekend, I think one of the fastest on the track. “I can only say thank you for all the hours they have spent in the last two weeks, making small changes which could make a difference for us. They have worked so systematically; second here is a great win for the whole PSRX team. “I would like to congratulate Mattias Ekström for winning the 2016 World RX championship. Well done to Mattias and his team. They have been consistent all season. I would also like to congratulate Kevin Eriksson, who had an amazing weekend here and a spectacular final today. I saw his move out of the corner of my eye and it was just spectacular.

  • Crash Landing for Audi and EKS in Sweden
Audi MediaInfo Communications Motorsport Virginia Brusch Tel: +49 841 89-41753 E-mail: [email protected] www.audi -mediacenter.com/en Crash landing for Audi and EKS in Sweden • EKS misses semi-finals in World RX for the first time since May 2015 • Absent rallycross world champion Ekström in third place of overall standings • Heikkinen: “Not a magic weekend from start to finish” Ingolstadt/Höljes, July 2, 2017 – Round seven of the 2017 FIA World Rallycross Championship in Höljes was a weekend to forget for Audi and EKS. At EKS’ home round in Sweden of all events, all three drivers missed the semi-finals. Rallycross world champion Mattias Ekström, who was racing in the DTM at the Norisring this weekend, is ranked in position three of the overall standings with five races to go. Audi and EKS had started the so-called “magic weekend” with great ambitions. Even without Ekström, the squad was intent on continuing the 2014 and 2015 successes when the local hero went home as the winner on both occasions. This year, however, even the qualifying sessions revealed that the necessary pace was lacking. On Saturday, Reinis Nitišs as the best EKS campaigner was ranked only in position twelve and, as a result, would have just barely qualified for the semi-finals of the twelve fastest drivers on Sunday. “Our lap times were more than half a second short of those of the front runners throughout the weekend,” Nitišs said, analyzing the event. Plus, on Sunday, there were some technical issues. In the final qualifying session, the suspension of the Latvian’s car broke, dashing all hopes of making it into the semi-finals.
