Haryana Civil Aviation Minister, Rao Narbir Singh said that the first airport of Haryana would become duly functional from August 15 this year for which all arrangement have been made. In a statement issued here today, the Minister said that with a view to provide affordable air travel facility to people, the Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi had launched UDAN Scheme to increase regional air connectivity. He said that the airport has been linked with this scheme. The Hisar airport would be first licensed airport of the state. He said that the Chief Minister, Mr. Manohar Lal would inaugurate the airport on August 15 and the same day the air services from Hisar to Chandigarh and would be started. The Minister said that in order to avail the maximum benefit of increasing opportunities in civil aviation sector, the government has decided to expand the existing air strips at five airports in the state. He said that four air strips at , , and would be expanded up to 5,000 feet so that medium sized planes could be provided the facility of parking, sub-basing, flying training alongwith other several activities. For this, the Department had already got published Expression of Interest. Rao Narbir Singh said that the air strips would be further extended up to 9,000 feet by the end of next year for betting landing facilities. Under this second phase, facilities such as parking, basing and Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) would be made available.
