CHITRAKOOT YEAR : 2016-17 ------Chitrakoot District Is One of the Districts of Uttar Pradesh State of India, and Chitrakoot Town Is the District Headquarters NATIONAL HEALTH MISSION DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH & FAMILY WELFARE DISTRICT PROFILE : CHITRAKOOT YEAR : 2016-17 ---------------------------------------------------- Chitrakoot district is one of the districts of Uttar Pradesh state of India, and Chitrakoot town is the district headquarters. Chitrakoot district is a part of Chitrakoot Division. The district occupies an area of 3,205 km². The district has a population of 991730 (2011 Census). As of 2011 it is the second least populous district of Uttar Pradesh (out of 71), after Mahoba. On 6 May 1997 a new district was carved out from the erstwhile Banda district comprising its Karwi and Mau tehsils. The district was initially named as Chhatrapati Shahuji Nagar district. On 4 September 1998 it was renamed as Chitrakoot district. In 2006 the Ministry of Panchayati Raj named Chitrakoot one of the country's 250 most backward districts (out of a total of 640). It is one of the 34 districts in Uttar Pradesh currently receiving funds from the Backward Regions Grant Fund Programme (BRGF). Successive governments have often ignored the district's development and hence has become one of the most remote and cut-off districts in India. According to the 2011 census Chitrakoot district has a population of 991730, roughly equal to the nation of Fiji or the US state of Montana. This gives it a ranking of 448th in India (out of a total of 640). The district has a population density of 315 inhabitants per square kilometre (820 /sq mi) . Laboratory Services 8.1 Haemoglobin Test ‐ State level As can be seen from the graph, hemoglobin test is being carried out at almost every FRU studied However, 10 percent medical colleges do not provide the basic Hb test. Division wise‐ As the graph shows, 96 percent of the FRUs on an average are offering this service, with as many as 13 divisions having 100 percent FRUs contacted providing basic Hb test. Hemoglobin test is not available at District Women Hospital (Mau), District Women Hospital (Budaun), CHC Partawal (Maharajganj), CHC Kasia (Kushinagar), CHC Ghatampur (Kanpur Nagar) and CHC Dewa (Barabanki). 132 8.2 CBC Test ‐ State level Complete Blood Count (CBC) test is being offered at very few FRUs. While none of the sub‐divisional hospitals are having this facility, only 25 percent of the BMCs, 42 percent of the CHCs and less than half of the DWHs contacted are offering this facility. Division wise‐ As per the graph above, only 46 percent of the 206 FRUs studied across the state are offering CBC (Complete Blood Count) test service. None of the FRUs in Jhansi division is having this service. While 29 percent of the health facilities in Moradabad division are offering this service, most others are only a shade better. Mirzapur (83%) followed by Gorakhpur (73%) are having maximum FRUs with this facility. It presents some opportunities that can arise from having demographic changes, particularly the demographic dividend and interstate migration to overcome labour shortage in some parts. At the same time, there are serious challenges in the form of enhancing human capital development, addressing the issue of tilted sex ratio, and the possible rise in social and political unrest and conflict. Economic growth itself will be correlated to the age structure of the population.

    Cataract Backlog Free Zone Program –District Chitrakoot Introduction Restoring sight to blind is noble approach to reduce avoidable blindness across the globe. Blindness has been major public health concern in India. With 7.8 million blind people in India, the country accounts for 20 per cent of the 39 million blind population across the globe, of which 62 per cent are on account of cataract and 19.7 per cent refractive errors. With today’s knowledge and technology, up to 80 per cent of blindness globally is preventable or treatable. In India cataract is the major leading cause of avoidable blindness. Due to rural-urban disparity, lack of access to eye care services and lack of awareness the backlog of cataract cases are increasing day by day. Cataract Backlog Free Zone As per the Indian definition people with vision <6/60 in better eye can be termed as ‘blind’ people. People with cataract in both eyes (bilateral blind) with vision <6/60 can be termed as blind due to cataract. If we identify and operate all such bilateral cataracts in a defined geographical area we can term that area as Cataract Backlog Free Zone. Aim of the initiative: To make Chitrakoot District Cataract Backlog Free Zone. Accepted 3 April, 2012 In the present study the authors have attempted to analyse the condition of food security in the Bundelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh at district level. Bundelkhand region has been chosen as a unit of study because it is one of the poorest regions in comparison with western, central and eastern regions of the state and even after being in close proximity to heartland of green revolution (Punjab, Haryana and Western Uttar Pradesh) the region is still backward in agricultural development in India in general. Agriculture is the mainstay of the economy and mostly dependent on monsoonal rainfall. The Bundelkhand is continuously facing drought since last few years and people are migrating for employment. Thus, there is an urgent need to look after the conditions of food security of the people living in this region. The standard statistical techniques have been used for the analysis of data. The study concludes that the condition of food security is unfavourable. Only one district of Jalaun has shown high food security. Majority of the districts are moderate and low food secure because of low food grain availability, low purchasing power of the people, etc.
