Based on a fossil type species but a Recent species has been referred to this genus (see Paxton et al. 1989:81 [ref. 12442]). •Valid as Hemipristis Agassiz, 1843 -- (Compagno & Smale 1985:4 [ref. 5649], Compagno 1988:269 [ref. 13488] in Hemipristinae of family Hemigaleidae, Compagno 1999:482 [ref. 25589], Compagno et al. 2005:34 [ref. 29145], Hoese & Gates 2006:95 [ref. 28997], Moore et al. 2012:7 [ref. 31771]).
