It provides a complete list of publication citations as well as a database report containing rearranged subsets of the list sorted by the keyword statistics, extant and extinct genera and species descriptions from the years 2000 to 2016, list of descriptions of extinct and extant species from 2016, parasitology, reproduction, distribution, diet, conservation, and taxonomy. The paper is intended to be consulted for information. In addition, we provide information on the geographic and depth distribution of newly described species, i.e. the type specimens from the year 1990- 2016 in a hot spot analysis. Salah satu sumber daya laut yang telah dimanfaatkan, baik untuk kepentingan penelitian, budaya dan ekonomi, oleh masyarakat adalah ikan hiu. Wilayah perairan Indonesia sendiri memiliki hampir sepertiga dari total spesies hiu di seluruh dunia. Memperhatikan jumlah atau keberadaan spesies hiu yang banyak di perairan Indonesia, maka sudah seyogyanya pemerintah, masyarakat, serta seluruh pihak yang berkepentingan untuk bersama-sama mengupayakan keberlangsungan atau kelestarian sumber daya ikan hiu itu sendiri. Sehingga, sumber daya ikan hiu dapat dimanfaatkan secara berkelanjutan dengan terus memperhatikan prinsip konservasi atau aspek pengelolaan dan perlindungannya. Upaya perlindungan dan pengelolaan perikanan hiu secara komprehensif di Indonesia merupakan hal yang sangat penting dan mendesak untuk dilakukan. Selain itu, implementasi rencana aksi perlindungan dan pengelolaan sumber daya ikan hiu secara nasional dapat ditempuh dalam beberapa tahapan atau paling tidak dengan membuat proyek-proyek percontohan yang mengarah pada pelaksanaan yang utuh dari Rencana Aksi Nasional. Selanjutnya, sebagai salah satu negara yang telah mengesahkan konvensi internasional, seperti Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), Indonesia tentu perlu menyesuaikan peraturan atau legislasi nasional di dalam negeri dengan regulasi internasional, secara khusus yang menangani perdagangan satwa liar, dalam hal ini ikan hiu. Penetapan status perlindungan ikan hiu di Indonesia perlu diatur lebih lanjut dalam peraturan perundang-undangan di tingkat nasional. -

COELHO‡ *Biodiversity and Conservation Group, CCMAR, University of Algarve, Campus de Gambelas, 8005-139 Faro, Portugal and ‡Coastal Fisheries Research Group, CCMAR, University of Algarve, Campus de Gambelas, 8005-139 Faro, Portugal (Received 30 August 2006, Accepted 17 January 2007) A total of 60 morphometric traits and nucleotide sequences of the entire mtDNA NADH dehydrogenase subunit 2 (ND2) gene [1047 base pair (bp)] in 23 individuals of blackmouth, Galeus melastomus, and 13 individuals of sawtail catsharks, Galeus atlanticus, caught in Southern Portugal, were examined to test the validity of these two taxa. These sharks closely resemble each other, have overlapping geographical ranges and are difficult to identify by morphological characters. Non-metric multidimensional scaling of morphometric variables indicates a clear separation between the two species, with 10 characters each contributing 2Á12–2Á45% of the total variability between species. Maximum likelihood, parsimony and neighbour-joining trees revealed two major mtDNA haplotype clades, corresponding to the two species, with an average corrected sequence divergence between them of 3Á39 Æ 0Á56%. Within species divergences between haplotypes averaged 0Á27 Æ 0Á18% in G. melastomus and 0Á12 Æ 0Á08% in G. atlanticus. A total of 35 diagnostic nucleotide site differences and four restriction fragment length polymorphism recognition sites in the ND2 gene can be used to distinguish the two species. -

Two specimens of total length (TL) 610 mm and 628 mm were caught by longline at depths 40-100 m. A detailed diagnostic description and morphometrics of and its comparison with previous literature is provided. COI DNA barcodes were generated for the collected specimens. (2005) described a close species Hemigaleus australiensis from Chondrichthyan fishes are mainly exploited as bycatch in Australian waters. -

A collection of nine shark specimens from six different species, obtained in 1993 from the Gulf of Thailand, was examined in this study. The sharks were determined, morphometrically and meristically analyzed, photographically documented, and compared with relevant literature. Additionally, further available material from the fish collections of the Zoological Museum Hamburg, the Senckenberg Naturmuseum Frankfurt, and the Museum´ national d’Histoire naturelle, Paris, was examined by way of comparison. Contrary to most references, prominent dorsal ridges were detected in several specimens of Chiloscyllium griseum. Additionally, one of the specimens had a very unusual big ocellar blotch on the head which had not been reported for this genus before. For Paragaleus randalli, it could be proven that the teeth morphologically deviate strongly from those shown in literature due to having much larger cusps. Furthermore, the known distribution area of Paragaleus randalli could be extended considerably eastwards by about 2000 km. -
