The Arroyo Seco AVA is an American Viticultural Area 101 in Monterey County, California, southeast of Monte- Monterey Soledad rey Bay. 1 Arroyo Seco Carmel Valley Village The appellation encompasses 18,240 acres (7,381 ha) Greenfield in the valley adjacent to the Arroyo Seco Creek. The area is known for its gravelly soil that absorbs heat Big Sur King City during the day and radiates that heat in the evening. Because of its proximity to the Paci c Ocean, the area has a cool climate, and is best suited for those grape varieties that bene t from the cool afternoon breeze. Peak temperatures rarely linger for more than an hour or two before the wind o of Monterey Bay brings warm conditions to a halt. This strong marine inu- ence creates a long but cool growing season.
