Avorite Hot Club Jazz Vocal Songs 11 0000 FFAAVVOORRIITTEE OOTT LLUUBB AAZZZZ H H CC JJ VV OOCCAALL SSOONNGGSS This is the 2016 vocal Django Fakebook with songs that are often heard in the gypsy jazz scene (music in the style of the Quintette du Hot Club de France, also known as jazz manouche). Key features of this style are swing music (let’s dance!), fun, acoustic string instruments, jam sessions, interaction, campfire, etc. Vocal input is sometimes rare nowadays, although most songs were in fact composed for singing purposes (musical). Some practical tips for hot club vocalists: For vocalists it is very important to memorize these songs when playing and singing in this style of music with other musicians. This document is just a tool for practicing at home! You can save this document on your smartphone, the index is a nice tool to pick songs. This document contains the basic text of all songs (one chorus). Usually you sing the lyrics at the beginning and end of a song. But always feel free to improvise on that. When singing don’t be shy. In this style you have to be forcefully and very clear. As a vocalist you are bringing the message: always look the public in the eye, stand straight up, use your arms and the rest of your body to bring your message. If you do not have a strong voice (volume), this is no problem at all! Just indicate your fellow musicians by raising and lowering your hand to bring down the volume of the band. Don’t be shy to conduct your fellow musicians. Don’t be afraid to start a song clearly count off the beat. Usually in a four-beat song this is like: one, .., two, .., one, two, three, four. Counting off is no weakness, it is the start of very important shared pleasure-time and great togetherness. If you want to sing your song in another key that is commonly used (usually for female singers, as most music was composed for male singers), always know your right key. You singing in the wrong key is always your own responsibility and mistake. Try to circumvent the beat of the music bar. Start your words before or after the beat, as a vocalist you are bouncing on the beat. Syncopation is your best friend. Some vocalists have no instrument experience. Therefore they do not know or understand the intended melody, and then they miss out the beautiful 7 and 9 notes. Try to figure out the melody with other musicians really well, listen very carefully to others. Understand the words of the song: when the words are happy, sing happy. When the words are sad, don’t be shy to be sad! Singing is acting! When drinking alcohol, your shyness might drop a bit. But your capacity to listen, to sing and to improvise drops a lot harder. Always feel free to have a beer or a glass wine, but remember: for good vocal music, being sober brings the best result. When playing with other musicians, improvisation is the key element. In jam sessions, there are never fixed arrangements. Therefore: adapt and fit in, over and over again. Most of all: enjoy what you are doing! Show and share your excitement with others. Angry, shy or boring looking musicians often play angry, shy or boring music. Joyful, swinging and happy looking musicians improve interaction and improvisation. You Took Advantage Of Me After You´ve Gone After you've gone and left me crying After you've gone, there's no denying You'll feel blue, you'll feel sad You'll miss the dearest pal you've ever had There'll come a time, now don't forget it There'll come a time, when you'll regret it Some day when you'll grow lonely Your heart will break like mine and you'll want me only After you've gone, after you've gone away Second part: After I´m gone, after we break up After I´m gone, you´re gonna wake up You will find you were blind To let somebody come and change your mind After the years we´ve been together Thought joy and tears, all kinds of weather Someday blue and downhearted You´ll long to be with me right back where you started After I´m gone, after I´m gone away FAVORITE VOCAL JAZZ - 1 Ain't Misbehavin' No one to walk with, all by myself No one to talk with, but I'm happy on the shelf Ain't misbehavin', I'm savin' my love for you I know for certain, the one I love I'm through with flirtin', it's you that I'm thinkin' of Ain't misbehavin', I'm savin' my love for you Like Jack Horner, in the corner Don't go nowhere, what do I care? Your kisses are worth waitin' for, Believe me I don't stay out late, don't care to go I'm home about eight, just me and my radio Ain't misbehavin', I'm savin' my love for you FAVORITE VOCAL JAZZ - 2 All Of Me All of me, why not take all of me? Can't you see I'm no good without you? Take my lips, I want to lose them Take my arms, I'll never use them You're good-bye left me with eyes that cry How can I get along without you? You took the part that once was my heart So why not, why not take all of me? FAVORITE VOCAL JAZZ - 3 Almost Like Being In Love What a day this has been What a rare mood I'm in Why it's almost like being in love There's a smile on my face For the whole human race Why it's almost like being in love All the music of life seems to be Like a bell that is ringing for me And from the way that I feel When the bell starts to peal I would swear I was falling, I could swear I was falling It's almost like being in love FAVORITE VOCAL JAZZ - 4 Angel Eyes Hey drink up all you people And order anything you see Have fun you happy people The drink and the laugh's on me Try to think that love's not around Still it's uncomfortably near My poor old heart ain't gainin' any ground Because my angel eyes ain't here Angel eyes, that old Devil sent They glow unbearably bright Need I say that my love's misspent Misspent with angel eyes tonight So drink up all of you people Order anything you see And have fun you happy people The drink and the laugh's on me Pardon me but I gotta run The fact's uncommonly clear I gotta find who's now the number one And why my angel eyes ain't here 'Scuse me while I disappear FAVORITE VOCAL JAZZ - 5 Autumn Leaves The falling leaves Drift by the window, The autumn leaves Of red and gold, I see your lips, The summer kisses, The sunburned hands, I used to hold Since you went away, The days grow long, And soon I'll hear Old winter's song But I miss you most of all, my darling, When autumn leaves start to fall FAVORITE VOCAL JAZZ - 6 Bei Mir Bist Du Schön Of all the boys I've known, and I've known some Until I first met you, I was lonesome And when you came in sight, dear, my heart grew light And this old world seemed new to me You're really swell, I have to admit you Deserve expressions that really fit you And so I've racked my brain, hoping to explain All the things that you do to me Bei mir bist do schön, please let me explain Bei mir bist do schön means you're grand Bei mir bist do schön, again I'll explain It means you're the fairest in the land I could say Bella, bella, even sehr wünderbar Each language only helps me tell you how grand you are I've tried to explain, bei mir bist do schön So kiss me and say you’ll understand FAVORITE VOCAL JAZZ - 7 Besame Mucho Besame, besame mucho, Each time I cling to your kiss, I hear music divine, Besame, besame mucho, Hold me my darling and say that you'll always be mine.

  • Discography of the Mainstream Label
Discography of the Mainstream Label Mainstream was founded in 1964 by Bob Shad, and in its early history reissued material from Commodore Records and Time Records in addition to some new jazz material. The label released Big Brother & the Holding Company's first material in 1967, as well as The Amboy Dukes' first albums, whose guitarist, Ted Nugent, would become a successful solo artist in the 1970s. Shad died in 1985, and his daughter, Tamara Shad, licensed its back catalogue for reissues. In 1991 it was resurrected in order to reissue much of its holdings on compact disc, and in 1993, it was purchased by Sony subsidiary Legacy Records. 56000/6000 Series 56000 mono, S 6000 stereo - The Commodore Recordings 1939, 1944 - Billy Holiday [1964] Strange Fruit/She’s Funny That Way/Fine and Mellow/Embraceable You/I’ll Get By//Lover Come Back to Me/I Cover the Waterfront/Yesterdays/I Gotta Right to Sing the Blues/I’ll Be Seeing You 56001 mono, S 6001 stereo - Begin the Beguine - Eddie Heywood [1964] Begin the Beguine/Downtown Cafe Boogie/I Can't Believe That You're in Love with Me/Carry Me Back to Old Virginny/Uptown Cafe Boogie/Love Me Or Leave Me/Lover Man/Save Your Sorrow 56002 mono, S 6002 stereo - Influence of Five - Hawkins, Young & Others [1964] Smack/My Ideal/Indiana/These Foolish Things/Memories Of You/I Got Rhythm/Way Down Yonder In New Orleans/Stardust/Sittin' In/Just A Riff 56003 mono, S 6003 stereo - Dixieland-New Orleans - Teagarden, Davison & Others [1964] That’s A- Plenty/Panama/Ugly Chile/Riverboat Shuffle/Royal Garden Blues/Clarinet

  • LA VIE EN ROSE LIVIN’ and LOVIN’ with LOUIS ARMSTRONG
LA VIE EN ROSE LIVIN’ and LOVIN’ with LOUIS ARMSTRONG Words are completely inadequate when attempting to convey the spirit of Louis Armstrong to anyone unfamiliar with his genius. It is far better to learn about Armstrong, also known as Satchmo, Pops, Papa Dip, through his music. And yet, to define his accomplishment solely through music is to overlook the totality of his unique contributions to the world. There is much to discover when we widen our focus. Through his story, we can examine how technology can be used to document change through the lens of a single person’s life. His long career spans the timeline of developing media: print media, photography, sound recordings, radio and television broadcasting, and film. Even today his legacy is spread through developing new media. With Internet access, any student can get their daily dose of Satchmo through iTunes, YouTube, Facebook, or Twitter. Satchmo used every means possible to create and communicate, and he was truly a pioneer exploring new technologies. Armstrong was constantly recording his story, first with pen and paper, next using with his trusty typewriter to write memoirs, essays and letters. He took to lugging around a reel‐to‐reel tape recorder on tour. He tucked scissors and scotch tape in his pockets to make collages whenever he had a spare moment. He amassed a personal collection of 1,600 recordings, 650 home recorded tapes in hand‐decorated boxes, 5,000 photographs, and 86 scrapbooks. He was often the first African American performer to break through racial barriers — in radio programs, animated shorts, early soundies, television shows, commercial advertisements, and in full‐length feature films — in a time when people of color could not walk through the front door of many public establishments, sit in the front of the bus, or go to an integrated school.

  • Unsatisfaction Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez, Patti Smith
No sé cuánto llevo acostada. Empecé meditando (dizque shabassana, la postura del cadáver), me morí, me dormí, no sé qué pasó. Intento levantarme.
