RIP, GRIP AND WHIP and EPRO8!

LYNMORE SCHOOL BRINGS HOME THE TROPHIES! FROM THE PRINCIPAL ...

We hope everyone has had a great week. Autumn is definitely here with the trees full of colour and the cooler temperatures.

Epro8: A huge congratulations to the students who participated in Epro8 last week. We had three teams that came 1st, 3rd and 5th. 1st place: Lynmore Funky Feijoas (Bruce, Nadia, Symi Stewart, Kaito) 3rd place: Lynmore Allstars (Georgia, Nathaniel, Taine, Lila) 5th place: Lynmore Jumping Jackfruit (Nathan, Josh, Cohen, Elsie) The Funky Feijoas and the Jumping Jackfruit will compete in the regional Epro8 semi-finals on May 27th.

The EPro8 Challenge is the inter-school science and engineering competition. Every year over 10,000 students from 800 schools throughout take part. Students took part in a series of competitions and events designed to promote science and engineering. A thank you to Mr Martelli and the senior teachers who helped prepare the students for this event.

Whip, Grip, Rip: A huge congratulations to all those students who participated in the Whip, Grip and Rip mountain biking event on Tuesday. There were three races (A taster of mountain biking, Let me fly, and Legend Status). Only Legend Status took placings for students because the focus for the other two was participation. Legend Status results: Year 5 and 6 girls: 1st Georgia, 2nd Cate, 3rd Ceara Year 5 and 6 boys: 1st Matthew, 2nd Nathan, 3rd Lachlan

There was also a mixed relay team consisting of Matthew, Georgia and Nathan. They came first beating all the other primary and intermediate schools. Well done team! Thank you to Whaea Catherine, Whaea Cherie, Whaea Lisa, Mrs Barker, Mr Martelli and Mr Doyle for supporting our students on the day.

Mini Marathon Well done to the approximately 200 Lynmore students who participated in the Mini Marathon last week. It was fantastic to see so many of our students getting out there and being active. Keep it up!

Walking to school reminder: Just a reminder we are supporting Rotorua Lakes Council with trialling two safe to travel walking routes to and from Lynmore School.

· Owhatiura Drive: Meet beside the Retirement Home fence opposite number 31 at 8.20 am · Warwick Drive: Meet outside the Bowling Club carpark on Warwick Drive at 8:20 am · Walking Home: We will meet all children outside the office and split into two walking groups. We will walk your children back to the designated pick-up point (either Warwick Drive or Owhatiura Drive). FROM THE PRINCIPAL ...

Success stories: If your children have been involved in any events outside of school please do let us know so that we can celebrate their success in the newsletter.

Finally, good luck to all our students who are participating in the many sports codes this weekend.

Enjoy the rest of your week and weekend ahead.

Nga mihi

OUR EPRO8 TEAMS ARE WINNERS!

Last Thursday the three Lynmore Epro8 teams competed in a competition at Rotorua Intermediate School. We did lots of building challenges using cool technologies. We were working together on the challenges for two and a half hours! Our teams did really well. The Lynmore Funky Feijoas, with Bruce, Nadia, Symi and Kaito, finished first! The Lynmore All Stars, with Georgia, Nathanael, Lila and Taine, finished third after a tightly fought sudden death match. Finally, the Lynmore Jump- ing Jackfruit, with Josh, Nathan, Cohen and Elsie, finished 5th. The Funky Feijoas and Jumping Jackfruit have qualified for the semi finals which is great. Well done to all the competitors who showed the school values of aroha, integrity, curiosity and courage. Check out some of the action!

Well done Lynmore School for adapting so well to the changes around the your school. The environment is now much safer for children to use and we have already seen an increase in the number of whanau using the new crossings. Here are a few helpful tips for helping make your school drop off even safer and easier: · If you are stopping for children on the crossing please come to a complete stop so that they can see you have stopped. Creeping forward slowly is confusing for them. · Plan your route to enter the street so you can leave directly. U-turns in school zones are dangerous, this includes; pulling into driveways, 3-point turns in the roadway and U-turns at intersections. · Plan what you will do when it is raining and be prepared. Ensure your child has a raincoat or umbrella packed on these days. Talk with your child about what to do before and after school, talk about what if…, and plan B options.

SCHOOL WIDE Lynmore School Cross Country Tuesday, 25th May (Postponement date Friday May 28th)

The 2021 Lynmore Cross Country is a schoolwide event with both junior and senior students running on the same day. This means even our youngest participants can be part of the action. Our 8-12 year olds will start the day followed by our 5-7 year olds later in the morning, allowing our older students to provide loads of support and encouragement for our younger athletes.

The day will be split into two sessions: 9.00am - 10.30am 8 -12 years 11.00am - 12.30pm 5 - 7 years The age that your child runs in is their age as of the first day of Term 2, Monday 3rd May 2021.

MARSHALLS NEEDED: To allow us to run the entire school on one day we need lots of parent helpers and support. Our senior runners leave the school grounds to complete their courses and we must have the course well marshalled to ensure the safety of our students. The day cannot proceed if we do not get enough volunteers.

The 8-12 year course is where we need the most marshalls. As most parents want to watch their children compete, it would be fantastic if we can get enough volunteers from parents of the 5-7 year olds to marshall for the 8-12 year olds and vice versa.

Please advise if you are able to help out at either or both of the following times.

Session One 8.45am - 10.30am for the running of the 8-12 year olds Session Two 10.45am - 12.30am for the running of the 5-7 years olds

If you can marshall at one of these times please complete the form at the below link https://forms.gle/rYoyEWfJEafG8RWd6 or email Whaea Catherine at [email protected]

CBOP CROSS COUNTRY: A team (8-12 year olds) will be selected for the Central Cross Country event on June 15th.

RIP, GRIP AND WHIP!

On Tuesday 11th of May a mighty team of Lynmore students went to the forest to compete in the Rip, Grip and Whip mountain bike race organised by Sarah (Max’s mum).

There were three races, A Taste of Mountain Biking, Let Me Fly and Legend Status. A Taste of Mountain Biking was a 2km trail for people who had not ridden a mountain bike much before. Let Me Fly was a 6km trail for riders that like a few bumps and lumps. Finally, Legend Status was the hardest trail for riders capable of riding grade 3 and 4 trails.

There were loads of schools including Otonga, St Mary's, and Wai- kite Valley (Primary and Intermediate) Mokoia Intermediate, Rotorua Inter- mediate and of course us (Lynmore).

We think everyone had a great time and would like to come back next year to try their hardest. We recommend you try this no matter how good you are. It was an awesome challenge!
