Artificial Reef Zones E CT oile The permitted reef zones off the coast of Alabama comprise the largest D artificial reef program in the United States. The multiple permit zones consist ay CT of 1,062 square miles of permitted bottoms containing nearly 2,000 public reef structures and 9,000 privately permitted structures. The program initially on iiii Sound Seou began in the 1950s and contains reefs made of a variety of cleaned and ay approved materials including bridge spans, ships, army tanks, dry docks, farm E EC equipment, pre-fabricated reef balls/pyramids, repurposed D SD SES T concrete and decommissioned oil and gas platforms.
